Any hostile fire from the 'UFO' would take both of them out together. This was a 'stage managed' incident. The two RAF jets must have known that the 'UFO' was not hostile - as they are chasing the 'UFO' too close together. Any hostile fire from the 'UFO' would take both of them out together. Additionally, the aircraft would have been under ground control intercept radar who must have assessed that the 'UFO' was not hostile, as the fighters are not engaging the target. This entire incident was intended to be seen by the public.
