I just found out that Michael Jackson did 'Behind The Mask'. I hate to tell these MJ fans that YMO did Behind THE Mask in the very Early 80s and it's their track and YMO did this with The Human League in the 90s! The Human League KICK ASS!!!
@TheNouveauxdecadence You're not telling the MJ fan base anything new about who actually sang this song first. Eric Clapton also sang it and so did Greg Phillinganes. Like I told ol' StoneCold down there, we all have our opiniona, likes and dislikes - it doesn't make either one of us wrong or right. However on a different note about Human League, Don't You Want Me Baby will always be a killer song.
HELLO? The original was composed by Greg Philliganes with lyrics by Michael Jackson. Look up Greg Philliganes on YouTube for this song. Michael redid this version for his latest (and last) cd and for the This is It World Tour.
@MsGabiA This song was composed by Sakamoto Ryuuichi from Yellow Magic Orchestra(YMO). YMO's album 'Solid State Survivor' was released in 1979. And 'Behind the mask' was included in this album. Michael Jackson wished to include this music in his second album 'Thriller'. It's 1982. But YMO rejected it. YMO was famous Japanese Techno band.
@MsGabiA That's funny, seeing as how he didn't compose it until the 80's, and the song itself was around since the 70's. Amazing how stupid one can be, right?
@MsGabiA tHE original is Sakamoto Ryuichi from YMO. Michael recorded it for Thriller and they wanted to outright own the publishing and Sakamoto rejected thier offer. The original session player was Greg Phillingaines and he later used the same backing track and put his voice on it. The lyrics were written by Michael and another person. YMO used only vocoder on the bridge.
Yeah, good thing we have internet.Otherwise i would listen to this American comercial pseudo music, because our fucking cheap media are talking about lady gaga and Michel Jackson all day
Besides,MJ's version is the worst i heard.Clapton has awesome version
@Jauly Go to /watch?v=vqtKHDLr9UQ and skip to 2:22 And tell me his vocals aren't as good! Maybe not as good a singer as MJ, but his voice is really good for this type of song! I like the quick rap-like vocals. Best version imho. I'm working on putting MJ's vocals on this instrumental, though :)
@StoneColdKrishna NOPE, even a year later, I still feel the same way sooo no, I'm not kidding. What? You have your opinion and I have mine - what's the deal?

sounds productionwise better than human league's new material, to be honest

This would be good if the vocals weren't so bad, dammit the beat is so good

@miketh2005 nuts? this is phil oakey, one of the coolest male pop voices of the 80s ;)
Jauly 1 year ago
@Jauly I'm sure it'd sound good for other song, but it's not suited for this song. Greg's vocals are even better suited than MJ's are for this song.
miketh2005 1 year ago
@miketh2005 well, greg's vocals are great, but this is totally other style, not rnb, it's classic pop. better vocals than the original anyway ;)

@miketh2005 agreed, but you know that the original I'm talking about is from YMO, not from Michael Jackson ? ;)
