I was watching Cam McCaul on a previous video and clicked on this out of curiosity. Advice: Don't listen to this guys advice. Never run a smooth rear tyre on downhill courses, the bike will generally fish tale all over the place and overall you will just lack control, especially in wet or dry, dusty conditions. Running a rear tyre like you see here is alright for trail riding and dirt jumping but definitely not for DH.

@EWColaCanada Doing so could completely trash you and your mtb if it's running cheap components such as the wheels, cranks, forks and even frame itself because they weren't built with extreme terrain in mind and you may void any warranty if you do break anything (excluding bones), so you have been warned! This doesn't mean you can't use any old mtb to ride downhill though, it is possible and for proof just look at downhill racing in the 80s before we even had the luxury of suspension.

If you are going to do an expert video on how to choose a tire please have an expert explain it. The more rubber and the larger spacing the tire the faster you roll? I dont think so Center knobs spaced closer together reduce rolling resistance and the semi slick that was on the rear of that bike would destroy you no matter what terrain you were riding on for DH period.

A good DH tire will be Soft 42-60a and have fairly spaced apart center knobs with large side knobs.

2.2 is as small as they go i have a 2.1 tioga factory dh tire on my rear, and a 2.3 tioga factory dh tire in the front... they are good tires..
