I noticed that the tour-guide mentioned the boats that hang in many of the churches... It is not because the faroese are a seafaring people. In the past there was a seafaring custom that if a ship was caught in a storm or was about to sink the captain or the crew would promise gifts to God if they survived. And if they did the gift would be a donation to the church of the first village/town they would come to. (the boats have some connection to that custom) If I remember correctly
