im a husker fan but my favorite UT player is major applewhite because i was at the age to ware ur kinda taking football seriously and i just member the name my first full game by myself was him and UT vs t am he played well ... my how football changed g b r and to all those McCoy out there suuuuuuuuhhhh
I was like Nine or Ten and was listening to it on a walkmen while on the river walk in San Antonio ... It also happened that I met future actress Summer Glau when she was a Teenager in a book store near by.
Chrissy Simms and Deloss Dodds (with Phil Simms in his back pocket) stole Major's opportunity for the Heisman Trophy...travesty. If Majors had been allowed to play his senior year, McCoy may very well have had a tuff time breaking all the records Major would have set.
@gottabighit1 Did you forget that Major blew out in his knee in 1999 and again in 2000? He wasn't the same player in early 2001 b/c he still wasn't 100% when the season started.
@Statalyzer I've got a great memory. In 2001, drinng theBig 12 Championship game, Chrissy had Texas down to Colorado 17 to 36 and 4 turnovers .Brown FINALLY put Major in and he pulled them to within 3 points 37-39 final and we had last possession, but simply ran out of time. The team loved Major, but didn't play hard for puss Simms. Sad. However, due to public demand, Brown let Major play his final game, The Holiday Bowl and what a game to remember. Major won that game for Texas 49-47
@gottabighit1 What a joke. Chris was playing against Colorado b/c Major lost his job TWICE to knee injuries. In practice of summer 2001 Major was not the same player as before, so Chris got the starting job. By december his knee had healed so when Chris struggled, Major played. And the "due to public demand" is unprovable nonsense. He won the job for his final game, played poorly in the first half, and was unstoppable the 2nd half.
@gottabighit1 Actually, the players went to Mack Brown and told him they wanted Chris to be the qb. He was, in fact, one of the most popular players on the team.
can any one tell me where the major is now??? thats right back home at texas and thats why colt is who he is today. major is the best qb to ever and i mean ever play the game. hook'em horns
Major lacked some of the skills but almost no one could study the opposition and pick them apart like he could. SI had an article after this game pointing that very item out. It was like he was in the Husker Ds huddle.
yes and that is why he is the best ever. he could read a d so well that it was amazing. he would have made the pro defences look stupid out there. i dunno why he didnt go pro.
Tough game from the Husker perspective but a lot of respect for Texas and the Major. We did get our, to date, final vengence at the Big XII game that year, and a lot of close calls and great games against a rowdy Texas clan.
Owned us? Really? Forgetting about the '99 B12 Champ. Game? (22-6) Applewhite had more completions to the fat guy in the seats than any receivers. Way to go, Baby Poop. Go Big Red!
Heartbreak Fooking Hotel-This was the last great team Nebraska had, and we STILL get our national title hopes crushed in Austin. Even more heartbreaking b/c I was at the game
I love how the horns have just owned the "great nebraska progam" for the past decade. wow! major was so young then. that was such a great pass to mike jones. who? MIKE JONES!

Because Simms played more instead, because of his daddy, even though he sucked. He's a QB coach/ offensive coordinator at Alabama now, i think
