It's about playing the song for the musical structure and voicing's, it is out of the ordinary and allows players to play out of the box and maybe get some value from the exercise. Thats all that is implied. Hundreds have contacted me for the free tab which I have available so evidently there are many that do indeed recognize the musical value within this song. And of course I agree that every player should play whatever they want. My comment is just a suggestion .
I would love to see the pedal steel opening up a sporting event like the Super Bowl. Would be an eye-opener for many as to the sounds of this instrument. And certainly for those in other countries, their anthems are most appropriate on this instrument too.
I AGREE!!! If you can only whistle you should be able to do Star Spangled Banner. Those are powerful words man! I have the Carter Starter and I'm about ready to upgrade. The D10 you have there sounds good!
In didn't start with a Carter Starter. I started on a Sho-Bud Maverick in the 70's. I wish there had been a Carter starter back then. My current Carter D10 is the 3rd Carter I have had, this one is 9 + 8 and is really a comfortable Steel to play.
Thanks...it brought tears to my eyes...Got to love America! I real tribute. I'm starting today to learn this song. I too have a D-10 Carter. Way to go!!!
james...hearing the pedal steel as a solo instrument is a rare thing...hearing you play this and play it so well reminds me of the days when i would go to Ricky Skaggs' soundcheck and hear either Terry Crisp, or Bruce Bouton messing around with the Pedal Steel
This is the Standard E9th/10 string tuning using the AB Pedals and the E Raise and E Lower levers as primary. There are a few phrases which use the 7th string raise as well. Thanks for asking.
It's a fine Instrument for sure and fun to play. It does require a bit more in the " hang in there " mode as compared to perhaps a 6 string. I have been playing on and off for a few decades. thanks

I totally disagree. I think every player should play whatever the hell they feel like playing.
It sounded great when you played it, though.

Nice tone,...great note structure. It's nice to hear it in tune. Most anthems you hear are bad. This was close to perfect. Great job.
