  • I believe this young lady comes top in two categories

The most underated Girl singer of the 60s and

    The prettiest.

She had such a powerful voice full of feeling..check out TERRY live

There were so many Girl Singers during the 60s..All top class, that she I think just got overlooked.

How do modern day wannabies compare..................

  • can't believe the smiths had covered this song. this is so not the smiths

  • The Smiths put me on the game

  • Can't stop listening to this song...

    "brain-fag", Moz????

  • Twinkle wrote this about her ex - he was of 'The Bachelors'

  • I don't think I've ever thought a cover was better than the original but I do think The Smiths version is slightly better

  • Nice voice, reminds a little of France Gall.

  • one of the songs that went famous worldwide by its cover version..

  • A great follow up to Terry, lovely girl, lovely voice, why no more hit records? Thanks for the revival Hawkmoon, guess I will be spending more time around YouTube now.

  • I've just listened to the cover version, by a band called The Smiths. Oh dear.

  • What a bloody good song this is! I love Twinkle!

  • so cool

  • This is being used as the background music to an advert at the moment and I could only make out the words Golden lights cos of the noise of the ad, so I put my fingers in my ears and tried hard to put the rest of the tune together and came up with it!! I logged right on hoping someone would have uploaded it and here it was. I've loved listening to it, I grew up with it and Terry, thanks so much for posting it xx

  • Dear *T*W*I*N*K*L*E* Happy New Year Girl....Love ya more than love ya forever Molly Mae Morrissey and Dagenham Dave xoxoxox

  • What a beauty Twinkle was. I saw her in the flesh in St George's Walk Croydon when she opened Rumbelows a Radio and TV outlet in 1965.

She might be gone but she's certainly not forgotten.

  • I love this song! It sounds so soothing and peaceful!

  • She's got a really sweet voice. I wish singers could have songs that weren't alllll about sex and dancing. I mean, I don't mind it usually, sometimes I love songs like that. But once in a while I wish for something more.

I love this version and the cover by the Smiths.

  • It wasn't apparently covered by The Smiths, it WAS covered by them!

  • @jeffeastwood15 Much to the regret of at least one of them ...

  • "A Lonely Singing Doll" ?? Not when your with us Twinkle, You have our hearts so how could you be lonely ? Molly Mae Morrissey, Dagenham Dave & Rocco

  • This song is written about my dad apparently, brilliant!!

  • @funkyendbar

And who might your Dad be?

  • These old pop songs are amazing!! :)

  • apparently, she went to school with Camilla Windsor as well.

  • two more singles, actually (wiki'd).

  • Great song! So catchy, I could listen to it ten times in a row.

  • What happened to Twinkle?

I remember this one and "Terry".

  • @Mamsillen - she made a few more singles, then retired from music, though she made a brief recording comeback in 1974 (technically - an album that wasn't released), and I think there may have been one more single down the way in the early 80s.

  • Excellent song, and gorgeous singer. Had this song in my head since i was a wee boy, and now very happy to have finally found it. Problem was, I didn't know the title or the singers name.

  • That tends to make life difficult.

  • That's horrifi ! - I have exactly the same thing. It was out about a year ago, and had a kind of chorus which went

"We'll be playmates and lovers....And share our secret world ."...

"I'm not goin a miss you like a child needs a banket

but I've gotta get a move-on with my life

And big girls don't cty - don't cry ... Any ideas ? I had the Twinkle single back in '68. Can't believe I have yet to enter it into my "One hit Wonders" file !!

  • @bertwindon

Type in.... Fergie Big girls don't cry

Great song, and very fit young woman.

BTW I didn't mean that Twinkles' song was in my head 24/7 LOL

  • @luvmostmusic

Thanks a mint for that Info ! - sorted. I am a Fergie fan. (I also make exeedingly good domestic wind-energy systems - when circumstances allow !!)

  • BRILL.ARE YOU STILL AROUND TWINKLE.

  • great song!

  • I prefer this to "Terry" too. Its a classic song. What a great voice she had. Perfect for the times.

  • the oldies are the bizz

  • fucking brill song makes the sad part is that my nan played this to me before died

  • she was my grans old school freind

    really

  • What a lovely voice sha had, why dont girls sing and dress like that these days??

    she was a stunner!!

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Twinkle was an idol to me in the 60s and I wanted to be her!!!

  • Brilliant bet I am one of the few on here who saw sing live, Colin

  • Hiya Colin - I saw her too in the 60's and she was brilliant - she wore a tinfoil kind of material mini dress and I think was on the same bill as The Walker Brothers, Dave Dee Dozy Mick and Titch and possibly the Kinks at Dudley Hippodrome (my home town). Just got into YouTube music this week and am wallowing in nostalgia at some of the amazing songs that Ithough I'd lost forever. Cheers Sue :)

  • You are not alone.. I saw her at the Golders Green Hippodrome with the Moody Blues and Little and Large! I nearly wore out this EP..

  • What a great song. I prefer this to "Terry"

  • i love you for posting this song

  • brilliant tune. I can see why morrissey wanted to cover it, but the smiths version was shite, maybe because johnny marr couldnt stand the idea of the cover...mmm the cracks starting to appear

  • Dear Twinkle: youtube lights displaying your name, and HEAVEN KNOWS WERE MISSING YOU NOW...love you so with X's and O's and now with regrets, I gotta go. Dagenham Dave 1962

  • Morrissey Smith. lol sorry, just had to laugh. Louder Than Bombs is my fav Smiths lp b/c of this song. thx to Youtube, now i know of the original. and yeah, it wipes the floor! woo-hoo! thank you, hawkmoon, for posting! wonderful discovery for me!

  • Glad to have brought it into your life.

  • Listen to Twinkle's 'Michael Hannah'. It's amazing!

  • Her niece is the actress Fay Ripley.

  • twinkle has a fanatical if small following: she wrote all her own songs: probably in another time she would have become another Madonna. She was a model who started singing. Its been covered by Morrisey Smith, who I've nevr heard of.

She wasn't the worlds greatest performer

  • ha lol@morrissey smith, that should read morrissey of "the smiths" a band from the 80s also lost to us in the 80s.go you tube there music you will be reborn

  • Tee hee Morrissey Smith indeed ! You're havin' a larf gormless. I think there are shades of Twinkle's "Terry" in " There is a Light That Never Goes Out" by Morrissey Smith

  • heaven knows i'm missing you now...david xoxo

  • Fantastic, all Twinkles songs were great.

Wonder where she is now and what she looks like.

  • I'm a big fan of the Smiths' version of this tune, but this version wipes the floor with it! Great tune from a very underrated artist.

  • Cute song!

  • BRILLIANT - Cheers S2

  • "Ain't nobody home but me" is brilliant as well. Whole record is pretty good.

  • I'm quite sure she wrote her own songs. Quite rare considering her contemporaries.

  • Brilliant song, better than Terry.

  • Love this song, it was covered by The Smiths, it appears on their album Louder than Bombs.

  • where is tommy?

  • awesome i have not heard this in yrs great post & thanks gary for share 5big***** in my 60s playlist now
