It can fly for 5 hours at 90 mph while carrying 5 pounds of payload. RC helicopters can't do that, they are very inefficient at high speeds. This design has low drag at high speeds and exceeds the performance of helicopters.
I must be missing something here. How is this going to achieve horizontal flight when it is so "butt heavy". Ducted fans are usually placed in a mid-ship or pylon setting. Where is the lift coming from to hold up the fan. It can't be that high aspect wing, the cg is too far behind it. If the fan blades are going to produce vectored thrust, it doesn't seem like the craft could go very fast. Help me out here.
The CG is at the 1/4 chord of the wing and the duct acts like a tail when flying horizontal. This makes the V-Bat much like a conventional airplane when flying at high speed, i.e. the wing supports most of the weight. Check out my other videos to see it cruising at 100 mph.
@smorrismlbco Researched their videos and the V-bat appears always hovering. Hovering is not flying. Show me the video that you claim that it flies at 100 mph. I think it unlikely, it is possible to realize that even for hovering is difficult.
Sorry but what's the big deal? Ever seen an acrobatic 3d plane in a hover before? Some of the more expensive ones are just as if not more stable! Just check out abirdh's video titled "rc airplane".
The fuel tank pickup is in the bottom corner of the tank. Since the vehicle never flies inverted, fuel is always available at the pick up wen hovering or flying horizontal.
The duct has standoffs that keep it a few inches off the ground so it is never "sealed" to the ground. Even when hovering 1 ft high, the power required is low due to ground effect. We have not noticed any recirculation problems near the ground. An air filter is used on the engine to keep out dust.
Beautiful ! It took a few seconds before I remembered my sound was muted and switched it back on. Without the sound and anything in frame to campare it to, I was a good 30 seconds taken-in before I realized it was not a new experimental aircraft. I'm just saying; you viewers would have enjoyed it more IF you didn't know right off that it was an RC aircraft. So where's the transition to flight ? Another video which I won't easily find -- I suppose. Thanks for sharing.

How is this better than a rc heli or similar? Better fuel efficiency or something like that?

Then why do we see it just hovering?

Well done.
What is the trick for keeping the fuel flowing in horizontal and vertical flight?
How do you keep from torque stalling (loosing lift by recirculating thrust air) when close to the ground with a ducted fan?

It doesnt need to have a goal, its all about getting ideas.

Those are the stock mufflers, it's fairly straightforward to design quieter mufflers later on.

What an unusual design. I've never seen anything like it. Control surfaces are either unconventional or not there at all.
I believe this guy is trying to market it as a UAV type surveylance aircraft.
