Hamsters like these kind of cages better because the tubes on other cages can be hard for hamsters to fit in .Also homemade cages are way more comfortable.

hehe i know im not SomeKindOfLizard but i have an idea...

I have seen over youtube that people use a 'bin cage' and they cut a hole through one of the sides and attach a tube going from your current cage to the bin cage.

just a suggestion, it doesn't work for all cages tho. Im using the IMac Fantasy cage for my robo dwarf hamsters and i love it because i can always expand it without taking up more room (It builds length ways, not upwards)

A hamster cage made of wood? Won't they chew their way out of that? I used to have hamsters who I put in a bird cage. I just put enough wood shavings so they can walk easily inside it. The bird cage door can't be lifted by 1 hamster but I saw with my own eyes the 2 of them lifting the door with 1 hamster on either side!!! Apparently hamsters can cooperate and work as a team. After that I have to tie the door with wires.

No, wooden cages are the best way to hold hamsters.

Bird cages are to small. But you can use aquariums as well and BIG "normal" cages are fine, too. But PLEASE not bird cages :(

At least you should use cages with 1m², what would be approx. 1.2 square feet. And there should be at least 2 levels installed.

We think this is the BEST cage we've ever seen! Well DoNE! Now we're trying to do something similar (though on a MUCH smaller scale) as a summer project, and have a Q for ya - what duct/ hose did you use for the spiral??? Also, what size was it? (3''?)

@mutzgirl well thats the point! they can actually chew on it! Not like all the plastic containers most people keep them in. they need to chew on sth in order to keep healthy teeth.

i really think if you check regulary where they try to break through you can prefent them from escaping. although i really doubt that they might try that because they have so much to do in that great wooden cage!

cheers, mostly mdf coated in clear perspex, used a hard wood for the supports in the corners, tongue and groove wood to make the doors and the maze
