  • cool stuff

  • the strings on an oud are double courses therefore to facilitate proper tuning between the two strings of a course there must be two tuning pegs per course

  • Is there anyway to get this song off of limewire or iTunes?

  • nice

  • Seems to have quite a different sound to the other Oud videos on ebay, are these a different type of string? Forgive my ignorance of this wonderful instrument :)

  • very cool sound i love it :)

  • very nice. is there a cd i can get?

  • ooo this is really good

  • How come there seems to be more tuning pegs than strings on this instrument? Nice piece btw!

  • same style as a 12 string guitar. there are 6 groups of 2 strings

  • you might see 6 strings but there are 12, each one you see is a double string

  • for every string you see on there there is actually 2 but they are just really close together

  • I believe that the strings are grouped into courses, like on a lute. This means that each string (or most of the strings) you see are, in fact, two strings grouped together.

  • The strings are doubled.

  • I believe some strings are coursed, that is, its like a 12 string guitar =]

  • Its double strings. its really difficult to play this instrument because of that.

  • double strings=]

  • It looks like there is only 6, but there are 11.

10 are in pairs of 2, and the 11th is single.

  • cuz the strings are grouped in pairs, so from far away it looks as if there are only 6strings when actually there are 12...hence the 12 pegs :)

  • From the appearance (and then a search online to check out the oud) it is 5 double courses of strings (5 pairs of closely spaced strings sort of in a similar way as a 12-string guitar) and one lowest pitch bass single string... so 11 tuning pegs.

  • every string is actually two strings.

    like a 12 strings guitar.

  • its because on odu there are 5 sets of two strings. each set tuned to same not, whice the top and single string is a bass/ drone

  • It's a 12 string

  • there are twelve strings.. they are paired closely though.

  • because ouds typically have 11 strings, the top ten are paired, like on an electric 12 string guitar or mandolin, and the bottom one is single

  • its different than the guitar

  • very similar to a 12 string guitar except the lowest string is not doubled up.

  • Im not sure to the specifics, but my uncles oud has like, 2 strings per string....get it?

its 2 strings close together, but it looks like one string in the video because it cannot capture the detail....i think the bass (thickest/top) string is actually 1 string.

  • some (most) of the strings are "double" strings like a 12 string guitar

  • Coz the strings are in sets of two, like double strings

  • I wondered about the tuning pegs too. Are the strings in pairs? Thinner ones are often harder to see on instruments.

  • there are actually 11 strings on this instrument, there are two strings very close to eachother on a few of the lines. so they are technically treated as one string.

  • It's hard to see as he's playing but the oud traditionally has 12 strings. Therefore there will be 12 tuning pegs

  • the instrument is called "Oud", it has 5 pairs of string (tuned in unision), and one bass string on the top. Hence, the 11 pegs.

  • it looks as if there is 5 strings but its actually 10 i believe, every 2 are close together..

  • the strings you see are double strings .. two strings close to each other.. if the video was clearer you'll notice.

  • on oud the higher strings are all doubled up actually (just think of a 12 string guitar)

  • there are 12 strings in total... they're paired in groups of 2 that's why you only see 6 strings... :)

  • If you look closely, you'll notice that with exeption of the base string, each course is double strings. 6 courses and 13 strings.

  • because it's double stringed

  • you can only "see" about 6 strings but there are actually about 6 or so pairs of strings that are close together, like a 12 string guitar

  • Because with an oud the strings are done in groups of two so that each string harmonizes with itself. And then, in this case the base string is on its own, but some ouds can have twelve strings, whereas it looks as if this one has 11: five stages of two and one single. Hope that is helpful.

  • the oud has double strings

  • You can't tell in the video, but they are double strings. Like a 12 string guitar.

  • like a 12 string guitar, oud strings are set in groups of two

yeah but you said that a year ago so this is prolly unnecesary to tell you lol

  • There are 12 strings, it just looks like 6.

  • Its double stringed i assume, most ouds are. kind of similar to a 12 string guitar :)

  • the strings are held very close together in pairs if i am correct.

  • there's 2 strings per course, and each one has its own tuning peg. Its a bitch to tune but without a doubt worth the effort

  • All the strings except the lowest are doubled.

  • @guitmartiman it has double strings for most notes

  • @guitmartiman the oud has is arranged in courses of 2 except the top string which is single, so there are 11 pegs for the 5 sets of strings and the solo one as well.

  • its double strunged i.e it may look like 1 string but its accutualy 2 close to each other and each 1 has a tuning peg !

  • @guitmartiman the oud has double courses.

  • i think its double stringed.

  • This oud has a 5+1 double stringed setup. The lowest string (usually C) is a single string. The others are groups of two strings but it's hard to see on this video. Hence 11 strings and 11 tuning pegs in total.

  • the strings are in pairs (really close together)

  • Each string you see is actually 2 strings really close to each other. Twelve in total, and twelve pegs.

  • Wiki: With some exceptions, the modern oud has eleven strings. Ten of these strings are paired together in courses of two. The eleventh, lowest string remains single.

  • Based on the sound of the instrument, I would guess that it's similar to a 12-string guitar and the strings are close together, so you play two at a time. The video quality just makes it look like they're one string.

    That's just my guess, anyways.

  • I'm not certain, but I believe that the oud is like the lute or 12 string guitar in that strings are paired and struck as if they are one.

  • @guitmartiman

Usually on an oud, the strings are paired in courses of two. And, per Wiki, "The eleventh, lowest string remains single."

  • It's got 11 strings IIRC ten of those are paired together hence 11 pegs and seemingly 6 strings. I might be wrong since it's been a while since i've seen a oud.

  • The strings you see in this vid are actually double strings.. each the quality is not great, so each string you see is actually two. (excluding the upper one)

  • there are more tuning pegs because each string you see is actually 2 string.

  • Each string that you see is actually two strings very close together, much like a 12-string guitar.

  • @guitmartiman I believe they are [mostly] grouped in twos.

  • the strings are doubled

  • @guitmartiman . Each string you see actually has two.... its doubly stringed

  • IDK but I am gonna bet its probably like a mandolin where each of what appears to be large strings is actually 2 smaller strings, but honestly I got no clue.

  • @guitmartiman Each sting you actually see in the video has a parallel string right next to it. Every peg is another string.

  • @guitmartiman I think its because theres 2 string tuned same but a smaller one and a bigger one ,think about a 12 string guitar.

  • @guitmartiman I think its because theres 2 string tuned same but a smaller one and a bigger one ,think about a 12 string guitar.

  • @guitmartiman it has sets of two strings, like a 12 string guitar

  • @guitmartiman I can't really answer your question, but I am guessing that there are other strings inside the instrument for resonance

  • @guitmartiman It's got dual strings, like a mandolin.

  • @guitmartiman, The modern oud has eleven strings. Ten of these strings are paired together in courses of two. The eleventh, lowest string remains single.

    -Wiki

  • @guitmartiman The oud is constructed (string-wise) similar as a 12-string guitar.

    Hence the number of tuning-pegs:D

  • @guitmartiman its kind of like a 12 string. They are really close together.

  • @guitmartiman Peg number is correct. Except for the bass string (top from this angle), each of the others are sets of two, like a mandolin.

  • @guitmartiman it should have 10 tuning pegs, because simply oud has TEN strings,. each two have the same tuning. thats the standard though

  • @guitmartiman The strings are double :) there are double strings on most lutes, I think. A truly good performance!

  • @guitmartiman it's a bit like a twelve string guitar- each course has multiple strings, if you look closely you can see each string is actually 2 strings

  • @guitmartiman no there are the same amount of tuning pegs as strings, it just looks that way because each pair of strings are really close together.

  • @guitmartiman i think each string is actually two strings, the quality of the video makes it look like 6 but it's actually 12 strings.

  • @guitdude09 what gave it away? not the twelve tuning pegs i hope. lol
