y would he let his opponent up for the point?

So he could take him down again and earn more points. He probably didn't think he was getting anywhere on top or just wanted to create a big point difference to secure the win.

if he wudve just pinned him then the match wud have ended faster.... instead he did all that repetitive work of continously taking his opponent down

I think the winner, very confidently wanted to win with points and then pin him before time ran out. But time ran out so the winner did not completely reach his goal.
