The reason Olga had the world in the palm of her hand was because of the space between her nose and chin. She was great in her artistry and skill, but she bested all the others because she acted like she was having fun doing what she was doing.
It's crazy that a level 8 in my gym practiced that exact first tumbling pass and she was one of the best in the world back then... amazing how far gymnastics has come!
Old school made ALL the RULES!! No springs in the floor, no padding, just straight get to it. My respect goes to all gymnast of all eras, but they only are today because of oldschool paving the way. Ride on.....
the sound IS good, but the commentators are unberable - have they seen at least a second of the performance? Seems they believe they are the main atttraction of the show.
@konoyana. Yes absolutely! You would think they had got bored with the gymnastics and they were talking about where they were going later. This would not happen in GB, there is silence during anyone's performance. Surely that is called respect!
@konoyana: the comments are made years after the performance, in a tv-series about the olympic games 1972. The woman who comments is Karin Janz, who succesfully competed in Munich herself.
Nice! What a pity that todays rules do not encourage such beautiful choreographies any more.

I think it's her AA performance but I'm not completely sure

Cool beans! She's really dancing...something you don't see much in today's floor routines.

lol I can't believe this is Olympic level tumbling. Don't get me wrong, it's beautiful, but this is like level 6 or 7 tumbling today.

@PhenixJoe i wish today's gymnasts would be more inspired by these old routines. they all look like robots now. its sad and repetitive

Again, great artistry but the level of difficulty is preposterous by today's standards.

They should have mad a law that commentators had to SHUT THE HELL UP during Olga's floor routine.

It's either team or all around. There is someone in the background on the vault run - so it wouldn't be event finals.

@grifffinity
Thank you!

@grifffinity
it is almost certain that it is the all around, then, because team comp footage has rarely survived, especially from 1972.
