well i agree that not all Thrice songs are about Jesus/God, but this song is definitely, without question, referring to God/Jesus..through the metaphor of wind
yeah i agree, like all the things god does for us but in return we just blasphemy his name and put him out of our lives when really hes the reason why were even alive.
What does God do for us? He hides and tests our faith. God is not real, Christ did not die for our sins, and anyone who believes those things is delusional. Not being mean, just being honest.
About how we underestimate it's true power and beaty.
Check out the lyrics to Child of dust, The Flame Deluge, and King's upon the Main, those are the other 3 sonnets.
He sung the final song of each disk through the eyes of the element, whilst following a strict rhyming pattern. 14 lines, 10 syllables per line, rhyming sceme: ABABCDCDEFEFGG
pfft he is totally not singing about "the wind singing to mankind" hello!he is totally singing about God. they are singing in Gods perspective.the last little stanza says it all "after all of this i am amazed,that i am cursed far more than i am praised"after what God has done for us we still curse him rather then praising him.the second stanza talks about how God heals and and "eases the fireout of ur fevered skin"and how God moves people to worship
I think you need to re-read the lyrics of the song. Every single line is in reference to the wind. It may also be a metaphor to god, as Child of Dust is, but the song is written through the perspective of the wind, as are the other 3 sonnets. They wrote about it on their website, which I was going to quote, but of course it wont load.
No, The Flame Deluge is fire, hence the album name. Kings Upon the Main is about Water, hence the album name. Child of Dust is about earth, Hence the album name.
"Each sonnet is written from the point of view of the personified element, speaking to mankind, and lamenting our various failings," explains Kensrue. "The Fire sonnet deals with fire being resentful and ashamed of the way that its been used in destruction and war, while the Water sonnet deals with mans pride, and the futility and idiocy of that pride, come face to face with the power of the sea."
tepps talked about his beard in an interview a few months ago, it was kinda funny... he looked like a lazy samurai, was a quote from himself i do believe..
Silverstein10. Whats a Silverstein fan doing here? You dont have the intellectual capacity to fathom the depth of this music. Your comment proves my point exactly, 'Teppei should shave'.
yeah its pretty amazing. thrice is my fav band ever.
but the production is pretty bad, its so flat.
im not bashing the band at all, it has a more raw sound, especially for earth. but for the heavier stuff, a better production could have made better quality songs.
most apparent in Fire. The parts that should explode, don't. There are no big transients. It's a bit disappointing. BUT the rest sound great. I mean Fire sounds good, but there's something lacking
Anyone else feel like they mumble the words? Love the lyrics, the music, and the way they sing, I just wish I could understand them better sometimes.

any tabs for this?.
And yes, it is winds manifesto on mankind. Its so typical when people think every thrice song is about god.

Watch their other accoustic version of this, where poor Teppei forgets one of the lines, so he just hums.
OR one of thier accoustic versions of Child of Dust where Teppei messes up the chords a few times.
<3 I love Thrice, but everyone makes mistakes.
Frymononie 3 years ago
Actually Dustin steals his line and Teppei covers it up pretty well. :)

Haha wow, totally didn't notice that before.
Also the fact that Dustin just combined the 2 lines haha

This is straight from Thrice's website:
"Each sonnet is written from the point of view of the personified element, speaking to mankind, and lamenting our various failings," explains Kensrue. "The Fire sonnet deals with fire being resentful and ashamed of the way that its been used in destruction and war, while the Water sonnet deals with mans pride, and the futility and idiocy of that pride, come face to face with the power of the sea."
Straight from the Thrice site.

Dustin and Teppei's vocal harmonies have really come into their own with this album. Brilliantly executed.
Although Riley and Eddie arent here, we gotta praise them for being the most prolific and versatile rhythm section in alternative music today.

From tender years you took me for granted
But still I deign to wander through your lungs
While you were sleeping soundly in your bed,
(Your drapes were silver wings, your shutters flung)
I drew the poison from the summer's sting,
And eased the fire out of your fevered skin.
I moved in you and stirred your soul to sing;
And if you'd let me I would move again.

I've danced 'tween sunlit strands of lover's hair;
Helped form the final words before your death.
I've pitied you and plied your sails with air;
Gave blessing when you rose upon my breath.
And after all of this I am amazed,
That I am cursed far more than I am praised.
