This is rather good...my mother was a big fan of Frank Sinatra...I'm not sure he was the best singer of his day, but he sure knew how to handle a song....a particular favourite of mine is 'Something Stupid'...

Thank you so much for your time in uploading all those Frank Sinatra songs, I am a big fan of him!! I was just emailing you to give you the advice of changing your background to another lighter frank sinatra background, because it is very hard to see the text.
I love this song. It's so different from the majority of Sinatra's songs (all of which are friggen amazing) but this one... God, you can hear the pain in his voice that so many of us have felt... it gave me the chills and brought a tear to my eye. Beautifully done. Get it Frankie!
I'm not a Sinatra expert but I think that vocally this was his greatest period. His voice had got a little ragged but he still had the projection and he has all the experience and that lifelorn quality - a life of regrets...
@alfagtvjan Absolutely! In fact, Sinatra's greatest assets throughout his career were his masterly phrasing and his impeccable enunciation (despite the occasional blurt of New Jersey accent!). It is as if the man sang and ACTED each and every song that he recorded.
Sinatra was a past master, greater than a legend, mainly due to the fact you could feel the effort, precision and timing he put into each performance.
this sounds as if a man with a great voice had been given a sheet of paper with the lyrics and would've been told to perform, there is no passion, sorry!
Head and shoulder above all the other versions (at least those here in the tube). I don't know whether Sinatra heard the original (I suspect he purposedly didn't) but his version clearly ignores Brel's rendition. So he doesn't overemphasizes the already emphatic lyrics with sighs, cries and what else like all the other performers do. He's also the only one who "sings" the song from start to end, without allowing himself to "act" the song. (In this regard, the Dietrich version is nightmarish).
@Thorneycroft1937 You got that right. What a voice. And, while people knew better than to get on Frank's bad side, most people spoke of him as one of the sweetest, most thoughtful individuals they'd ever met. He was a class act.
@csskafa I hope your not talking about some sound like mix version of this song. It is not suppose to have a fast back beat. This is a sad then hopeful song that leads up to a finally. Just my opinion but can't find anyone who puts more feeling in this song than Sinatra!!!! he hold those notes till the very end
who can dislike this?

A song like this should be sang in French, English is too brutal for love songs, nevertheless Sinatra does a fair job.Too americain for my taste.

Esta música precisa de muita emoção do interprete. Sinatra é grande , mas ficou devendo.

Damn, I had forgotten this performance. A mature. whiskey, smoke filled voice that has seen and lived life. Therefore, can relate the message.

I think this particular ballad calls for restraint, and Frank wisely took that approach.

Sometimes - specially when i hear this song by him - i like to think that he was the best male singer of all times.
Even better than legends like Elvis, Andy Williams, Tom Jones, etc.
This is what a legend is!
