When I was young and dumb I was driving a 84 733i 5speed at 75MPH with no seat belt and a old man in a early 70's F-150 going the wrong way hit me head on I never seen him coming he came from over the crest in the hill. The old man and his passenger died on impact the passenger was over 100 feet away after flying thru the windshield. I walked away with no injury. Since then I have ONLY driven old BMWs
As exciting as a German Buick? Does this fartknocker realize that the E23 came out in the 1970s and that it was considered a damn good looking car? Even today, I love its BMW-ness. Its styling screams BMW and nothing else. Wish I could say the same of today's BMWs.
There is no way to read codes... car is pre OBD. Join bimmerboard or bimmerforums for some help. The E23s are comically easy to troubleshoot and repair. I currently own four.
It's all very true. I own this car today. However the one I have is an automatic. The automatic has a button at the bottom of the pedal that is an automatic downshift for quick acceleration. My wood is cracked and dry as hell also. It's not magic. Great review. The song is appropriate too. This car does not want to go 30 or 40 mph it wants to "break free" at around 100-110. Still only like 3k rpm. Gave me 24mpg from Tucson Az to New York City and back just this last month. (June/July 2010)
oh look at those nostrils..gay...but i just bought a 1984 bmw 733i v6 automatic for $2000it has to be repaired a lot nn ppl r jealous when i role up in it..do u think i should keep puttin money into it or get rid of it?
i never topped mine out. i hit the 155 on the speedo but wasn't redlined. had to take off my catalitic converter tho and had a glass pack connected with straight pipe to a flow master exhaust so it sounded like a muscle car lol
i got an E23 733i off craigslist for $2300. this vehicle is fantastic. i regularly outperform contemporary domestic and Asian Import cars from a dead stop. its true, the longevity and luxury of this auto make it a collectors item. not such a bad car to have for a road trip as well.
like this was the first BMW sports saloon. NOT! before the e23 BMW built the e3 (Bavaria): it got engine ranging from 2.5L to 3.3L, the most sporty version : 3.0Si (manual gearbox), the most luxurious: 3.3Li (auto box)
These underrated BMW's drive like a big BMW 2002! very sporty chassis.
Even before the e3 BMW made sports saloons: the 501 V8 (Baroque Angel), it used the same engine as the famous 507 sports cabriolet.
Any 25 year old car is going to have problems. Very few 25 year old cars are worth the effort to fix. This is one that is worth all the time and money.
The old E23 7's were and still are beautiful cars. I own two myself, a 79' 733i and a 85' 735i. They may be old but they whip some ass on the road! :)
Amazing....I wish my 735i was running right now. If anyone feels like talking E23s, email me...I have an Italian imported 735i stick that I've been looking to get running. I'm in Chicago so if you're an enthusiast and live in the area, email me!
Where can I find more BMW videos with history, and america for the most part ruined imported BMW's,be it the bumpers or the hundreds of pounds of emissions equipment.
Good stuff. My friend's father was an owner of BMW/Volvo/British Leyland Cleveland back in the days when all the foreign stuff you bought on one city block. Mercedes was 500 ft. down the road.
I'll never forget when the E23 and E28's came out, I've owned several fivers and a tii and until I get a mid 80's 911 the BMW is the best car in the World, overall.
All the visual appeal of a German Buick? That's unfair. Buicks looked like 70's cars well into the 90's! At least the E23 looked slightly newer than it's design date.

Interesting review. I've always loved the shape of things from the get go, along with basically all BMWs from the 80s and 90s. Thanks for the vid.

Ahhh, the pre-Bangle BMWs, a think of beauty.
Im not sure why he keeps on saying things like this was the only flagship luxury car out at the time. The S class has alweighs been around.

I like the "diving board" bumpers. I have them on my 87' E30. They do look kind of ridiculous when you concentrate on them, though..
