Unless his tuning is non-standard, he starts the lead on the 10th fret. Then the chords for the verses are D, F, C, then G.

@matchingnumbers You are 100% correct, I don't get it either, these guys were ,and still are GREAT! I'm 56 and heard them for the first time when I was 13 in 1968. Target picked up on them!
