There is something to be said for the tone on GHS 1300s series strings in the hands of Stevie, 1 pickup or no pick up, it doesn’t matter , Stevie would sound like this of a Squire
the guitar is called "Yellow", a '61 Strat with a single neck pickup. Used to be Vince Martell's guitar of Vanilla Fudge, who had 4 humbuckers in it. Charley Wirz fixed it and put one single pickup on the neck position then gave it to Stevie. Notice the brass saddles on the bridge looks kinda like the ones in "Lenny" and the "custom" jack output plate where the plug goes in straight not angled. The guitar was later stolen.
@clemmertime23 haha, yeah I'm a dork if it comes to Stevie :) I am really looking forward to jam with you bro! I'll be at the Key's Saturday night, come out if you're not playing.
@clemmertime23 It's simply called "Red". 1962 Strat, later he changed the neck to a lefty neck. When Number One's original neck couldn't take more fret jobs, Rene Martinez put the old neck of Red on Number One. That's the neck that broke into pieces in 1990. I made a "Red" replica myself. Come out to Keys, you can play it :)
great song, ha actually thats my bone to pick with srv. In his early years he is so bluesy, but as he gets later on, especially live, all of his fast solo's are pretty much employing the same licks, here however, and on the blue bird lounge cd, he is really innovative.
I had heard that they booked him on an accoustic night or something, and a lot of the crowd was not expecting this type of show. Half of the crowd was dancing and cheering, and half of them were assholes and booed. When he left the stage he thought he had destroyed his career, but it led to him meeting Bowie and Jackson Brown, and it led to him playing on Let's Dance and to recording an album in Brown's studio. So it all worked out. He even played there again. Nobody booed that time.
@bigdatut wow man :D he's great haha, those people booing shall probably feel REALLY stupid nowerdays seeing srv being one of the biggest guitar player ever
Notice at the end, the crowd begins to boo him and yet he still says his famous "Thank you very much" That man was pure heart and soul. Btw I believe this guitar was one that was thrown together with spare parts by his guitar tech.
you believe correct sir, and you know why they were booing him right? SRV tore the roof off of their lil folk and jazz fest. the crowd hated it yet just a few years later he was invited back to montreux to headline. yes! SRV forever
