I had both cubital & carpal tunnel surgery and a steel rod full neck fusion surgery (2005-06) right after a ATV flipped over slamming me on my back then the 500lb plus bike slammed on my chest. I had weak hands from all three problems. The pinkie, ring finger both were the worst in numbness. I was a powerlifter before the accident (age 43) was used to heavy weight training. I bought a guitar to help dexterity in my hands. I'd wake up with numbness also. It took me two years to get much better..
phyllis, thank you so much for sharing your recovery with us. i to have had the same operation, on 19 march 2009. i thought life pre op was tough, but its nothing compaired with post op. i had nothing expalined to me pre op, apart from tings would be better right away, that my life would go back to being normal right away, this ive found to be a big lie.. i still have my 11 stitched and the pains as befor the op. but still very early days.. thank you for showing me im not the only one xx
I had an ulnar nerve transposition in 08/08 and I too was told nothing. Very frustrating! I have found Phyllis's videos to be extremely informative and helpful. It's nice to know that others are going through the same recovery as myself. Hang in there, it does get better.
do u think the hand strength/function will get back to normal as before after surgery?? coz i've got it too but dunno if i need the surgery...from what i've heard, things won't get back to normal for a 100% after surgery. Thanks for sharing :-)
34 yrs of drumming has taken its toll on me. I have similar sypmtoms but the source is from the shoulder and neck where damaged tendons have pressure the blood/nerve supply. Had 2 injections to dissolve any calcium deposits but they dont last. However I am making good progress via some brutal & very painful chiropractic treatment. After a month I would be at about 75% but the big positive is that I can sleep at night again and can play drums with out dropping my left stick.
Phyllis, sorry bout all you've gone thru, but glad the good Lord is helping you along. that's not a good condition to have as a musician. i'll be praying for you
I'm sure those who come down with this problem will find this useful and encouraging. This is an excellent use of technology employed to benefit others!
