you make your opening cut way too small man. they should be 70-90 degrees.

yes, 90 degrees is a right angle. when I took logger training the instructor said 70-90, not 45-60. And it's not that difficult to make a 90 degree notch.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. In germany we learned 45-60 max. 70 degrees. And yes, its not that difficult. :)
