Adam de la Halle is a real person of the 13th Century ; it was a sort of ministrel. In modern words, an Halle is a market, but in the middle-age this word was only a name (and wasn't affiliated with a market or something like that).
That's why the translated name of the roosted is so strange ^^.
"Filent à toutes jambes", escape with all haste is a good translation. Quick question, does this literally mean, "flee with all legs"? or something along those lines. I'm just unusually interested in the expressions of different languages, it helps to understand their mentality better, i think
Actually Robin Hood is called "Robin of the woods" in french because "hood" and "wood" sound equal for frenchs ears. A better translation could be "Robin la capuche"... But it's not very nice to hear.
It's not like they're stupid and can't tell 'hood' and 'wood' apart. 'Robin of the Woods' just makes more sense - even in English - than 'Robin Hood', and I think that's probably what the legends originally used.
Adam de la Halle (1237-1288) was a real mediaeval composer , who wrote a piece called "Le Jeu de Robin et Marion" (though his Robin and Marian are a knight and a shepherdess); it is believed that the association of Robin Hood with Maid Marian was suggested by the two different stories being played together in the old English May Games, where Marian was originally the May Queen.
Interesting, though I believe the minstrel character is known as Alan-a-Dale in the Robin Hood legends. At least the ones I've read, which I believe were the Howard Pyle versions.
I'm glad that you didn't translate Adam De la Halle's name to "the open-air market." because Adam de la Halle was really a famous trouvere (like a minstrel) who wrote musical plays in the late 1200s including the story of Robin and Marion!
yeah i do, although there not strong even though there the special ones. the reason they ain't strong is the stuff i'm allergic to is in most vitamins and the stuff i'm allergic too makes it stronger, well that's what i'm told anyway.
yeah and chlorine too! hopefullly ill be able to have more foods in a couple of months though i took a sugar diet for 6 weeks not including the 2 week die off! the doctor said i have to much yeast in my body most likely and hopefully taking care of that will help(in the fact that i won't be so allergic to things!)!

Very cool. In swedish Alan-a-dale is called "Allan i Dalen" (Allan of the valley) and Little John is called Lille John.

on the 4) i would have written something more like "flee as fast as your feet allows you" but that would be a little too long. Nice translation.

@kurtofan Non ce l'est pas son nom cest Robin des bois.
pas petit jean.
QCBEC 4 months ago
Yes I think so :) in french we call him Petit Jean and not Petit John :)
John is not a really a french name that's probably the reason why we translated in Jean...
Nice song :)
Allyfromtheleft 2 years ago 7
@GinTurin89 Think. Robin Hood is a legend and a written story before this Disney cartoon. Of course it's Petit Jean in French from there...

Yes, approximately. Actually, "à" doesn't exactly means "with", but there isn't any precise translation for this word, so "with" is okay.
