  • This is just one of those great, classic songs, that James Taylor continues to sing so good, even after all of these years! BobbyK

  • Your preamble fanfare sucks. I was going to share this video with some people, but chose another one because of it. You might want to revise it somehow.

  • @dragns Well, thanks for your opinion, unfortunately, it hasn't been taken into consideration as you seem like the only idiot that doesn't like it... as for sharing it, I couldn't give a care in the world. I did not put this video up just looking for people to share it and to get views... I put it there in order to share great music with whoever wants to hear it. Have A Nice Day.

  • @Doctorwhofan94 Still sucks, no matter how much you defend it.

  • @Doctorwhofan94 hear hear! thanks for sharing this moment in time with us! some people are never happy! I think it's fair to say the other 97,277 people agree as well. thanks again

  • @Doctorwhofan94 you tell him

  • @Doctorwhofan94 Looks like you are focused on the number of views. After all, you mention the number of views and to "keep it up" immediately after the title of the song.

  • @Doctorwhofan94 I will say, the song is the deal, the rip off of 20th Century Fox entry is a little more than I care about, but the song and artist merit something to make it stand out, further, that entry deal is quick unlike so many self grandizing way over the top crap that folks feel the need to post in front of decent to good music. ON a scale, this is a 10 song, the entry deal, is a non factor. Good job.

  • @dragns

Have to agree with you there. That 20th Century Fox preamble is pretty stupid. Kinda ruins the video.

  • James Taylor = GENIUS!

  • @Hister333: The only OBVIOUS difference between James Taylor and you is that he is a multiple-millionaire, multiple-platinum selling recording artist who brings more joy to this world every DAY than you will in your entire, pathetic lifetime. He was, maybe, 16 or so when when he played with the Corsayers. He hadn't honed his chops yet (what 16-year-old has?) and to judge him on that criteria alone is just plain idiotic. Do you actually THINK before posting your awful comments?

  • @TimMeijerDoctor: I'm sorry. I MEANT my previous comment to be directed toward that INEXPLICABLE hater----Hister333. James Taylor was originally signed to Apple records after Paul McArtney saw him perform, at the recommendation of several industry bigwigs, ONE time. He was, as are 99.9% of the population "Completely blown away" in his own words. If I've ever been sure of one single thing, it's that Sir Paul is a better judge of musical talent than Hister333. He's probably into Slipknot

  • @TimMeijerDoctor: I find it absolutely IMPOSSIBLE to believe hat there is ONE, SINGLE objective and truthful person on this Earth who, upon hearing a good sampling of the collective works of James Taylor, could find him to be anything less than what he is: a BRILLIANT, Creative, and peerless entertainer/'songwriter, whose very few covers are well thought-out and rendered MASTERPIECES. This man is a solo jazz guitarist masquerading as a folk singer/songwriter. NOTHING he does is "boring"!

  • my son passed way at 23 on 4-13-2011, his father was a roofer and my son often worked for him, till dark when it was cooler in the nc, smmers ,he said he would think of this song, because it gave him agood feeling about his hard work and that every word was so true, now not many 23year old boy,s even know this song, but when i hear it ,it brings me closer to my son,s spirit, i thank james for the wonderful gift he has given my family in our time of need with his song/karen phipps, mocksville nc

  • @krushertech

    God bless you.....

  • I don't know what i loved more; the opening or the song.

  • Good song!

  • James hit #28 in Billboard, 7-21-79. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • YOU LOOK LIKE FUCKING DALE LEE

  • any people who dislike........must be deaf

  • James Taylor comes from my home state, NC, and we're all genuinely sorry.

  • @Hister333 For being inferior to him? I'd be genuinly sorry for that too...

  • @TimMeijerDoctor The only difference between me and James Taylor is that I would say, "Hm. Maybe 'Up on the Roof' is fine the way it is, and I shouldn't waste people's time with a boring acoustic rendition of it." But, yeah, I have cuts from the Corsayers (his '60s band with his brother) on a comp, and we should have shut him down long before you guys had to hear him.

  • @Hister333 I would love to give a proper, well constructed reply with neat arguments to that particular remark, but I guess it would be much more fun for me to react in a sarcastic way...

Nevertheless, I'm going to try otherwise.

Why would you bother posting negative comments on a video you dislike? People who look it up are usually interested in the video, negative comments only bring damage upon he who posts them.

  • @TimMeijerDoctor Because it's noise pollution.

  • @Hister333 I'm not going to be a hater on a video you like which I hate, and I suggest you the same thing on the videos I like. That way, we'll be able to live in a slightly more peaceful, friendly world that is open towards other views and beliefs. Thank you very much from a Dutch, bisexual, 17-year old bass guitarist who loves James Taylor, listening to the name of Tim Meijer, also known as TimMeijerDoctor.

  • @TimMeijerDoctor Actually, I look up James Taylor videos to find out who's Dutch and bisexual.

  • I could hate this guy less if he would stop taking classic songs, and make them boring '70s...His originals are listenable.

  • This artist is one of the most gifted I have had the privilege of listening to. His voice is silky and you tell that he just enjoys his craft sharing his heart and voice through instrument and voice with well selected songs that address the human condition.

I want to thank the McGills in Taiwan for introducing me to James Taylor.

  • the best solo artist in the land!!!!

  • I went to the concert this was recorded at! It made me cry, just as it does every time I listen to it. God bless James Taylor.

  • I live in Nawlins...but have seen what he/ Carole King is talkin bout Up On The Roof... in The NYC!

  • This has been my mom's best friend's favorite song since she was in 8th grade. She's like 45 now.

  • I SANG THIS SONG TO MY TWO YEAR OLD AT BED-TIME AND HE LOVED IT. THANK YOU FOR A LOVELY SONG!!!!!!!

  • @nursedjones Jeez yo, chill with the caps lock.

  • I had a chance run in with James in SanJose some years ago. He was just sitting on a bench enjoying the sun. We spoke at length about his career. You never would have though that here is a man with so much talent and success. He very low key and acted as if it was no big deal. That night I saw has concert at the Shoreline and had back stage passes. If you haven't seen him in concert, go. your in for a big treat.

  • killed it with the intro :L

  • JT is amazing......with his songs and all Thank you for posting this.

  • love the intro :) he gives such great soul.

  • A Man who needs no introduction. No explation, and no deduction.

  • This was the first song I heard on the radio after arriving in the US 31 years ago. I will never forget it.

  • You can convert this or any youtube video to an mp3 at instantmp3s..com

  • This man is so God Damn Naughty i wanna smack the bald eagle's forhead. "Up on the roof for life", because nobody here can prove shit!

  • @clearwatertom your an idiot!!! this is an amazing song and James Taylor made it so much better.are you serious?

  • The Drifters made this song great.....James Taylor should not have recorded this one.......sorry.....this is a big city song...

  • Great song Mr. Taylor. Is the Carly Simon song about you, Your so Vain?

  • JT sings with such heart. How could anyone NOT be touched by this song?

  • Amazing what this song can do to me...it's pure magic...or is it the combination of this Drifters' song sung by James Taylor?...angel or devil I don't care?...it takes the pain away...

  • it's kinda funny, this ius the most recognized version in America, yet there's no Karaoke version of his.

  • Perfect song for creative ideas. Thank you for posting this video with good sound.

  • i swear this man is a legend and his voice can cheer up the saddest person ;D

  • I've really come to appreciate the live versions he's done of this song. For all of his problems in life, JT's voice is, and always will be, the voice of an angel.

  • simply beautiful<

  • I know what you mean. for me it's the lyric:

"On the roof, it's peaceful as can be,

and there the world below don't bother me."

Sometimes after a rough day I'd like to do that.

  • theres something about this guy,he's got something nobody else has.
