John Mayer is proving once again how he just doesnt compare to the likes of Joe Bonamassa when it comes to modern day blues/blues-rock.. there was so much potential for this to have gone so much better. Poor Darts im afraid
@myopinionxxx That's no more complex than learning to play the piano with both hands, or even playing the drums. Just a matter of learning which notes go where in the bar. This "complex" debate is getting out of hand. John Mayer would be the first to admit that the blues is as simple as it gets That doesn't mean it's easy to play it well or that he isn't any good, because obviously he is.
im 52 and also love johns music in particular his blues.. cannot believe some of his songs.. thought they had to be copies... but glad to know it is his soul on show. wow
@dannydramatic Yes, it does. Of course, that doesn't mean it's bad and I am a big Mayer fan. I was just baffled by the guy apparently impressed by his ability to play "complex progressions". A 12-bar blues is like the primordial progression, it doesn't get any simpler.
John, you are surely predisposed to the blues. Why oh why didn't you play this at Crossroads Fest?! You have a chance to blow your audience away for a few songs, but you take the middle road. At least we have youtube...
so beautiful. that's what being in the moment looks like... and those are some intense moments, lol. playing that guitar must be so healing for him....
if the sound quality was good that would be awsome but the base kills it but hes some gtr player got a lot of tricks up his sleave him an a very good show man too hat goes off to him pitty about the bass though
@the1quarter indeed.. sorry about the bass.. very good version besides that indeed.. did anyone find a version where the sound quality is a bit better?
never been blue balled worse... i can't stand it when i'm getting my life "guitared" upside down, and then the video throws a suprise premature ending at me
Okay... this just set a new standard for me as a player. This is what I am aiming for from now on. Awesome, just awesome. How people can say, with a straight face, that he is not that good... is beyond me. Most of which probably don't play guitar themselves. You can't please everyone I guess.
@mentalinstra Complex in its own right. Not many guitarists can bend so precisely in a blues song, most are sloppy or even just a hair off. Not so here
EVERY Frickin time I watch this video, I'm in awe!!!! Cant' get over how at ease he is playing such complex progressions -holy crap!!!!!!! By far my favorite of his performances
I was fuckin there. Every lick during the performance made me feel like i was being lifted into the air. He's the only artist who has ever had that effect on me.
I love clips like this of John. It's all about performance and bringing blues in to pop music. I love how he references Coldplay and Duffy two of my favorites. Plus, I love how he has those extended talk sessions in between the music just like classic blues artists. Just good music!
Can someone PLEASE tab 7:02-7:12 for me!? I have been trying to get it for over a month, but my ears wont go that fast. It is perfect, and I MUST know how to play it. PLEASE!?
record the audio, play it through audacity or best practice (both free software) and slow down the tempo, you'll be able to transcribe it nice and easy that way
You got it man. He's playing over the chord changes and using a few chromatic notes, but he's just sticking to the pentatonic scale. 7:02-7:07 he's playing A pentatonic and 7:08-7:11 he's playing G pentatonic. Keep messing with it. You'll get it.
The best concert money that I've ever spent. John is an incredible gift to the world of music. His passion for music may be unparalleled for our generation.
i've seen and heard all of them guitar heroes (I'm 54 now) but john mayer has something not one of them 's got: he has it ALL : soul, intelligence, musicality, poetry, personality, technicality, daring, guts, tenderness, vision.....
@Marinus87 Yeah and you can hear influence and his respect for all the greats mixed together in his solo licks in this song, like stevie, bb, and hendrix, yet he has formed his own style. Even more so now, and this video isn't even that old. It's almost like he wants to show them respect and build off of it at the same time, plus he knows what just sounds good.
O cara é lindoooooooooooooooooooo mandou bem a jenifer Anniston. The best!! Wonderful!! Im brazilian. Viva Brazil!!!! Rio de Janeiroooooooo Descuuuulpaaa!!!!!!!!!!!
I have never seen anyone so out of his body playing blues, complete admiration. It comes from somewhere unexplainable, unbelievable to me. He rocked so hard my socks flew off, love the unexpected cover
