This "complex" debate is getting out of hand. John Mayer would be the first to admit that the blues is as simple as it gets That doesn't mean it's easy to play it well or that he isn't any good, because obviously he is.

@dannydramatic Yes, it does. Of course, that doesn't mean it's bad and I am a big Mayer fan. I was just baffled by the guy apparently impressed by his ability to play "complex progressions". A 12-bar blues is like the primordial progression, it doesn't get any simpler.

You got it man. He's playing over the chord changes and using a few chromatic notes, but he's just sticking to the pentatonic scale. 7:02-7:07 he's playing A pentatonic and 7:08-7:11 he's playing G pentatonic. Keep messing with it. You'll get it.
