Of course he can keep up. He's singing behind the beat on purpose. It's a called being musical! He's trying to fool around with this tune cuz its a fan favorite but to him I would suspect it's the equivalent of Stevie Wonders " I just called to say I love you " popular but not their premium material. However that final not Jack hits and holds is remarkable! He's the best bar-non. No other singer has his range combined with musicality , power and breath control.
