I actually beta-tested on this product. It IS waterproof, but the decision was made not to take the risk and advertise it as such to prevent liability in event of some mis-hap.

It is also VERY shock resistant...in the testing phase I ended up dropping mine...twice...down a 35' long flight of concrete stairs (once was even on purpose). My non-ruggedized laptop survived with no issues (An Acer Aspire). Unfortunately, Otterbox no longer sells the product, so if you find one used...GRAB IT!

any 50 dollar aluminum case can handle rain, any old Haliburton case can handle the pool. This test wasn't a real test at all.

Thanks for the comment! Actually I said it is waterproof, but should not be used underwater. That's an older model ToughBook that isn't waterproof. The case holds up just great, works exactly as advertised.
