Stan is great but, as Stan said, JACK IS THE KING. Jack created Iron-Man. Stan wrote the dialogue. The marvel method of allowing the artist to do the story first and then adding dialogue after was perfect for both Stan and Jack... BUT JACK WAS THE CREATIVE FORCE... not Stan. Stan did excellent dialogue.

Iron man is the #1 superhero in my book and this movie seems like it will go by the story line. If it doesn't I am gonna be so mad. They ruined the x-men story line with X3 and they were only loosly following the story with the first 2. Anyways I hope this lives up to the hype.

I saw the teaser on a different site and it was awesome. I love the fact that they actually built the armors instead of doing them completely in CG. I think this is going to be the premier series in Marvel's next generation of films. I'm really looking forward to Captain America assuming they can keep to the schedule and have it ready for 2009.

i actually cringed when they said they were aiming for a "heavy metal" soundtrack. i can understand Sabbath being there, but hopefully it'll either follow in the vein of 70's heavy metal, or stick to "better" bands, rather than drafting in radio-friendly metal.

Casting Robert Downey Jr for this was the best choice they could have made for Iron Man and Favreau directing looks like a great choice he really seems to know his stuff, and for god sake people stop whining if you really want to see the clips you can find them elsewhere, it's not difficult.
Argh. Blunty, I think most of your viewers would know that you can't show the clips (although Mr. KlaxonCow here doesn't seem to grasp the concept all too well). You don't need to write an entire paragraph in place of the footage when you could just sum it up in a few words...

What I don't get is why Paramount - and other film companies - are so desperate to ensure people <u>don't</u> see their promotional publicity clips.
They go to tremendous effort in gagging people <u>not</u> to promote their film properly. They pay a lot of money for Blunty to fly out to Comic Con, in order that he can <u>fail to show</u> the main promotional piece that everyone wants to see (?!?).
In any other sphere of advertising, it's generally unheard of for your potential customers to <u>want</u> and <u>actively track down</u> your advert - most advertising has to be invasive because, given a choice, we'd typically never actively choose to watch any of it - and then <u>want</u> to put it up on their YouTube accounts, in order to give completely free promotion. For something they actually like, so you're getting positive "word of mouth" gold-dust advertising there too.
But, no, god forbid that someone might actually watch their advertising and learn about their product.
I mean, if there was multiple stable copies of the Iron Man trailer on YouTube, someone might do something totally wreckless like send Emails to all their friends with the URL, further promoting the movie to a much larger audience.
Yeah, pissing off fans and interested people by refusing to let them see your promotional clip makes so much sense as a sales strategy.
If Paramount are worried about the possibility of "bootleg" clips being of poor quality and not showing the film in its best light, then the solution to that is pretty damn freaking obvious: They should officially upload a good quality clip themselves before anyone else does to their own YouTube account.
Really, that's it. It's that freaking simple and obvious.
Stop trying to inexplicably hide your promotional clips. <u>Show them</u> to people. That, in case you've forgotten, is the whole freaking point of them in the first place.
They are supposed to be seen. That's how they generate "buzz" and publicity for a movie. By being <u>seen</u> by people.
Where Bizarro Paramount create expensive promotional clips, in order for them not to be seen. Because they don't want anyone to know about their movie, lest people actually come watch it!
there's a very simple reason Klaxon... the clips are produced exclusively for comic-con, to be a draw for that event. if the stuff wasn't exclusive, if people could be sure of seeing this stuff anywhere and everywhere the comic-con experience would be slightly less cool.
If you show the clips now then they were still "exclusive to Comic Con". You still need to go to Comic Con to see them first. It's still a draw for the event.
Paramount could have insisted instead that you don't show the clips for at least a week - maybe two - after the event.
Like J.J.Abrams releasing a teaser trailer for a movie that doesn't even have a title. Like temporarily pretending as if Leonard Nimoy wasn't going to come out.
It's just showmanship. Straight from the pages of P.T. Barnum.
Shrouding things in mystery. Turning things into "forbidden fruit" to create a clamor and hysteria in trying to find them. Generating excitement. Those who do see the clip feel privileged as an "elite" and then give slightly raver reviews to those who haven't seen it.
They know full well that these clips will be uploaded and some people will see them before they ask YouTube to pull them down.
Actually I hate it... I'd LOVE to show you the cool shit I've had to remove from some of these vids... but y'know... copyright laws and the like, I only got expressed permission from paramount for what I'm showing you (and I'm showing you every last second I'm permitted to:) )
Actually, when I interviewed her, she seemed to have quite a good handle on the character she plays, and Tony Stark. She's an ACTRESS, it's her JOB to "fake" it, but don't be mistaken, she's not ignorant of her character, nor that of the others shes playing against.

I saw the teaser on a different site and it was awesome. I love the fact that they actually built the armors instead of doing them completely in CG. I think this is going to be the premier series in Marvel's next generation of films. I'm really looking forward to Captain America assuming they can keep to the schedule and have it ready for 2009.

i actually cringed when they said they were aiming for a "heavy metal" soundtrack. i can understand Sabbath being there, but hopefully it'll either follow in the vein of 70's heavy metal, or stick to "better" bands, rather than drafting in radio-friendly metal.
Still, I'm pretty psyched for this film; one of the few comic-film adaptations I cannot wait to see. Darn it being in 2008...

Casting Robert Downey Jr for this was the best choice they could have made for Iron Man and Favreau directing looks like a great choice he really seems to know his stuff, and for god sake people stop whining if you really want to see the clips you can find them elsewhere, it's not difficult.

Argh. Blunty, I think most of your viewers would know that you can't show the clips (although Mr. KlaxonCow here doesn't seem to grasp the concept all too well). You don't need to write an entire paragraph in place of the footage when you could just sum it up in a few words...
And what was I doing while you were filming this? I was waiting in line! Huzzah! Kind of defeats the purpose of pre-registration, huh?

What I don't get is why Paramount - and other film companies - are so desperate to ensure people <u>don't</u> see their promotional publicity clips.
They go to tremendous effort in gagging people <u>not</u> to promote their film properly. They pay a lot of money for Blunty to fly out to Comic Con, in order that he can <u>fail to show</u> the main promotional piece that everyone wants to see (?!?).

In any other sphere of advertising, it's generally unheard of for your potential customers to <u>want</u> and <u>actively track down</u> your advert - most advertising has to be invasive because, given a choice, we'd typically never actively choose to watch any of it - and then <u>want</u> to put it up on their YouTube accounts, in order to give completely free promotion. For something they actually like, so you're getting positive "word of mouth" gold-dust advertising there too.

I mean, if there was multiple stable copies of the Iron Man trailer on YouTube, someone might do something totally wreckless like send Emails to all their friends with the URL, further promoting the movie to a much larger audience.
Yeah, pissing off fans and interested people by refusing to let them see your promotional clip makes so much sense as a sales strategy.

If Paramount are worried about the possibility of "bootleg" clips being of poor quality and not showing the film in its best light, then the solution to that is pretty damn freaking obvious: They should officially upload a good quality clip themselves before anyone else does to their own YouTube account.

Stop trying to inexplicably hide your promotional clips. <u>Show them</u> to people. That, in case you've forgotten, is the whole freaking point of them in the first place.
They are supposed to be seen. That's how they generate "buzz" and publicity for a movie. By being <u>seen</u> by people.

there's a very simple reason Klaxon... the clips are produced exclusively for comic-con, to be a draw for that event. if the stuff wasn't exclusive, if people could be sure of seeing this stuff anywhere and everywhere the comic-con experience would be slightly less cool.

If you show the clips now then they were still "exclusive to Comic Con". You still need to go to Comic Con to see them first. It's still a draw for the event.
Paramount could have insisted instead that you don't show the clips for at least a week - maybe two - after the event.

Clips from movies based on comic adaptions are as feared for screwing it all up by comics fans, as they are anticipated.

Shrouding things in mystery. Turning things into "forbidden fruit" to create a clamor and hysteria in trying to find them. Generating excitement. Those who do see the clip feel privileged as an "elite" and then give slightly raver reviews to those who haven't seen it.
They know full well that these clips will be uploaded and some people will see them before they ask YouTube to pull them down.

Actually, when I interviewed her, she seemed to have quite a good handle on the character she plays, and Tony Stark. She's an ACTRESS, it's her JOB to "fake" it, but don't be mistaken, she's not ignorant of her character, nor that of the others shes playing against.
