The POW's who were put on display for Jane would disagree with you. They said they put their social security numbers in her hand when she shook their hands and that she immediately handed the notes over to the commander who was accompanying her. Normandy is part of France not a country, Saipan isn't a country, niether was the Philippines, also the invasion of the Philippines was October not June oh and the Pacific theatre had limited resources but Nimitz was an excellent commander. Patton was in charge of the US armour that landed with Torch, which engaged and lost to the Afrika Korp which had been chased across africa by the British 8th. as for Market no the US para allowed one of the bridges to be destroyed meaning 30 corp had to build a new one putting them behind schedule and allowing the germans to effectively respond. Some of the real heros in Vietnam were the South Vietnamese who flew into North Vietnam at tree top level, then parachuted out and tried to infiltrate the VC. Every one of them was caught and put into forced labor camps, but more kept volunteering and jumping even knowing it was basically a suicide mission.

Other heros are the South Vietnamese Navy officers who were able to escape on their ships after the Communists took over, and then WENT BACK to Vietnam to try and help their families escape, whereupon they were promptly thrown into "re-education camps" for 12 years. Some say the Forestall's fire was McCain's fault because he "wet started" his A-4. This leaves a pool of jet fuel behind an aircraft which then catches fire at engine ignition. Also he got shot down because by his own admission he knew the missile was coming but ignored it due to his giant ego. He thought he was invincible or extra lucky and the missile would not hit him. It did hit him and certainly he should be ashamed about that.

Regarding the Forrestal fire:

Short circuit causes a rocket to fire from an F-4, due to disregard for SOP's on part of the armourers the weapon launched. If they had followed SOP the weapon could not possibly have fired at this time.

The rocket strikes an A-4, the A-4's munitions cook off in the fire, resulting explosion kills/injures the majority of the fire crew.

Inexperience among deck crew allowed the fire to spread after this. This really can't be blamed on ANY of the aircrew involved.

I believe at that time, contrary to the movie, the A-4s didn't even have sam warning lights. The A-6 did have the ability to listen to and classify radar signals. Anybody that engages in combat is a hero, but for some reason he went beyond the other POWs you didn't hear about like the Risner who led the 1st raid on the Dragon's teeth bridge.
