  • Mario and Luigi cameo??

  • Instead of laughing and celebrating shouldn't the Riddler send his henchmen to make sure they dead?

  • I really miss fun TV shows like this.

  • As is true with most copies............It is extremely rare that they are as good as the original. As good as Jim Carrey is at many characters, he couldn't hold a candle to Frank's Riddler.

  • ur all stuck up jim carey rocked as the riddler

  • Moth's costume was later made into Batgitls costume.

  • As corny is this show is, as dated as this show is, Frank Gorshin as the Riddler will always be timeless.

  • To quote B:TAS, Bats to Riddler: "You can't help yourself." "You can't stop."

  • That laugh of his always cracks me up. Gorshin was the best Riddler no doubt about it.

  • Riddler was a minor villain in the comic book until this show. 4th behind Joker and Penguin and Catwoman was Two-face

  • Up-scope. The riddler is the man.

  • There's something about a villain in tights!!

  • Frank Gorshin was the best Riddler <3 No one will be able to compare to him!

  • Hah, his henchmen look like Mario and Luigi.

  • Easily the only good villian from the TV series. His ability to switch from cackling to dead stare was quite thrilling when I was young.

  • Frank Gorshin was even a better Riddler then annoying Jim Carrey!!!

  • What episode was this from? I remember the full version keeps going, and this video cut off my favorite part, where the girl starts talking about how riddles aren't important, and Gorshin stares daggers at her, and goes on a huge rant about how life isn't worth living without riddles. I loved that about him, he could go from a giggling madman to coming off as incredibly dangerous pyschopath at the drop of the hat. He was the only villain in the show that could actually be scary at times.

  • I can certainly see how it would be difficult to write a Gorshin style Riddler and make him distinct from the Joker... But Gorshin still had the best take on the character.

  • Frank Gorshin was awesome as the Riddler

  • they shouldnt have bothered letting jim carrey do this part because noone can do justice to the riddler except this man

  • lies! jim carrey was awesome as riddler!

  • i agree

  • Did he actually kill them?

  • 0:45 that's why the riddler is a nerd, forgoing getting laid to jerk off over killing Batman and Robin

  • haha, "Enormous Candle Dipper"

was there ever a campy Scarecrow?

  • No, Scarecrow never appeared on the show. Same with Two-Face. Probably not included because they're both pretty horrific.

  • they werent created yet

  • Uhhh, yeah they were. Scarecrow first appeared in 1941, Two-Face in 1942.

  • riddler rocks

  • Frank Gorshin's Riddler was partially based on the classic Richard Widmark role of Tommy Udo in Kiss of Death 1947.

  • Frank Gorshin has the awesomest laugh! I've almost nailed it myself.

  • /jealous

  • someone needs to do a compilation of all his laughter clips and post it on here.

  • 72 hours of solid giggling could get boring.

  • that laugh is just the shit

  • I heard a rumor that Johnny Depp was meant to be the Riddler in the next Batman film, dont know for sure though

  • I heard Eddie Murphy. But I maybe be wrong, it's an untrustable source... :-C

  • this old-fat-batman series sucks so much! (gimme the red finger you bastards)

  • joel schumacher was a butt fucking fag making the riddler a retard and ruining batman.

Christopher Nolan is a savior to batman.

Frank Gorshin was the riddler. RIP>

  • true words...who's that stooge who gave you a -1? I'll nix that action...+1 for you

  • I wouldn't go quite as far as you did...

But I agree, Nolan's done an amazing job with the new series. I always loved Frank Gorshim from the old days growing up. Used to watch That Darn Cat all the time, then Batman.

If only I could emulate his laugh -_-

BTW, as much as you might hate Schumacher, I actually thought Carrey's sendup of the riddler was pretty good. He even commented in interviews how he was inspired by Gorshim's portrayal.

  • i understand that, but as a commic book fan, nothing imposed on Gorshin at all his is original.

but the Riddler himself is a smooth, quirky, and fast talking intellect with a quiet side. however his obbsession with puzzles tend to ruin him at a level equal to him. reference to The long halloween.

jim carrey did good, but i didnt like how flashy he was.

Riddler is dark much similar to Joker, however he doesnt kill for pleasure, he puts them through a death trap game scenario.

  • It's the difference between being a cinematic fan and a graphic novel fan.

Neither is "right" or "wrong", but different interpretations WILL be made by actors portraying the characters, since the mere atmosphere of a theatrical production is so vastly different than that of a graphic novel.

  • Like i said two comments back, I've pretty much developed an identical form of his laugh

  • I salute you then :D

  • Riddler was ruined by Joel Schumacher. This is the only Riddler worth remembering. Hopefully Nolan can make another good Riddler. Riddler. Riddler. Typing that word makes me smile. Typing Schumacher makes me scowl.

  • How do you know Riddlers in the next Nolan film? I've been hearing talk of The Penguin being in the next Nolan Batman film. Or is Penguin going to be a second villain like Two Face was in The Dark Knight?

  • i meant, hopefully one day Nolan can re-do Riddler...i don't know if he ever will, though

  • Oh thats cool yea I want to see The Riddler in Nolans next film too. Rumors are Johnny Depp may play The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman may play Penguin. I hope thats true because I think those actors can do a good job with those characters. Well at least Philip Seymour Hoffman can do a good penguin I'm not sure about what Johnny Depp would do with the Riddler. Maybe David Tennant can do a good Riddler instead lol.

  • He was the right actor/comedian for that role. Frank Gorshin was absolutely hilarious as the Riddler.

  • Apparently David Tenant has always wanted to play the Riddler... I think he'd to a good job of it as well... god I would love to see that...

  • Not really. They laugh a lot. That's about it.

  • His laugh just sends me into a fit of giggles! No other like him. XD

  • the best riddler there ever was and ever will be.

  • Amen!

  • Agreed!

  • let me savour this moment so divine lmao

  • Riddle me this riddle me that

your feindish scams are so old hat,

    TO THE BATCAVE

  • R.I.P Frank Gorshin

  • 'My cup runneth over.....upscope'

I honestly gain inspiration from the riddler. How can he not cheer you up!!!!

  • My "throbbing" heart?

    Wow.....

  • Gotta love a villain who wears green tights and leotards!!!

  • Ditch the Bitch Riddler!

  • I always loved Gorshin, with his giggling and jumping around. Hilarious.

  • Gorshin was a terific Riddler, but if you get a chance, check out how John (Gomez Addams) Astin played the part.

  • Astin was absolutely awful as the Riddler. No wonder they only used him once. Too bad Gorshin didn't want the part anymore and we had to suffer through Astin's shameful performance.

  • But Frank Gorshin returned as the Riddler in "Legends of the Super Heroes" in the 70's, along with Adam West and Burt Ward revising their roles!

  • now i know who must have been jim carrey's role model...o_O

  • Agreed!!! this guy is utterly insane!! LOL

  • The most insane laugh out of all the bad guys from Batman

  • THE EPISODES ALWAYS ENDED WITH SOME SORT OF TRAP TO BATMAN AND ROBIN. i USED TO ASK AS KID: "WHY THEY DON'T JUST KILL BOTH WITH A GUN?"

  • News......

I now airs on ALN, for those you with Insight, Comcast, ect..

  • What does ALN stand for?

  • American something something, I'm not really sure.

  • ALN is AmericanLife TV Network, a cable television network.

  • Man, they had a great cast of villains. Gorshin was the absolute best as the Riddler. Meredith was the one and only true Penguin. Romero was awesome as the Joker. Just a great cast of villains.

  • More trivia.........the purple costume worn by "Moth" became Batgirl's "Bat-Suit".

  • Gotta admit. The girl in the purple outfit was hot!

But Gorshin was a CLASSIC! May he rest in peace.

  • that was very good trivia zenta

  • Riddler, gotta love him!

  • Trivia..............

Frank Gorshin so hated wearing those green tights that he forced the producer to create his three piece suit that he could wear on days when he didn't want to wear the tights.

  • Ho, fantastic! So that's where Jim Carey got his craziness from.

  • Beyond hilarity

  • Gotta love an evil villain who adds to his twisted villainy by wearing a green leotard and tights!! VILLAINS RULE!!!

  • Frank Gorshin's Riddler is CLASSIC, CLASSIC I TELL YA!! YEAH!!!!

  • you gotta love that laugh

  • The Imdb bio entry on Frank Gorshin has the story on how he developed that laugh. Gorshin's Riddler Rules!

  • RIP Frank. The best Riddler ever! That laugh alone makes him the best!

  • his laugh to this day makes me crack up! i used to watch this at my grandparents house when i was little! they thought i was nuts because the second i heard him laugh, i'd lose it!!!

  • Gotta love his cohorts. The bad fashion police. XD
