Chernobyl spread radiation levels around the world eventually also, but I didn't see masses of people all over the world dying or even being statistically affected from it.
It would be useful to compare Chernobyl's (and even Three-Mile-Island's) world-wide radiation levels with Japan's to get a comparative idea of what's really happening.

Since effects are a combination of magnitude and duration, ingestion or inhalation pathways make a greater risk, naturally - longer duration once inside the body. But from the numbers I see, the risks appear very low in the US. We often choose to intake higher doses (e.g. smokers inhale lead-210 & polonium-210)

What the poster of the video (and many others) is concerned about is the effects if you are unlucky and inhale a particle or more of radiative MATERIAL. What do you think the effect on the cells surrounding that particle over the years will have? "the U.S. has no static monitoring stations that have specialized detection ability for radioactive noble gases" plutonium is even more difficult to detect. they only revealed the true fallout from Chernobyl 8 years later.

@septicbrainfluid - effects from radioactivity are not a simple dose/response relationship with guaranteed impacts at these "low" levels. Risk is expressed statistically or qualitatively. Since effects are a combination of magnitude and duration, ingestion or inhalation pathways make a greater risk, naturally - longer duration once inside the body. But from the numbers I see, the risks appear very low in the US. We often choose to intake higher doses (e.g. smokers inhale lead-210 & polonium-210)

What the poster of the video (and many others) is concerned about is the effects if you are unlucky and inhale a particle or more of radiative MATERIAL. What do you think the effect on the cells surrounding that particle over the years will have? What are the chances of 1 individual out of a given population ingesting a radiative particle given the particulates in the air?

Thank you. Very helpful. It doesn't address the level of radiation in the ocean water hitting the west coast, though. I'm worried about how that will affect sea life and seafood. Together with the devastation of the sea life in the Gulf of Mexico, things are not looking so good...And then there is the issue of whether or not it is safe to eat the food in our gardens after the latest series of storms shown in this video. Definitely time to stock up on essentials, like dutchsinse suggests.

drink heavy metal cleanser .. rosemary tea, sea kelp (seaweed) ... and have KI pills incase it gets really bad.

I have a question maybe someone out there can answer. If the snow or rain is bringing radiation that is from nuclear site in japan, it goes into the ground right. Now my question is: Can i plant a vegetable garden and eat the eventual crop without dying from radiation poisining? Is the water in my pool, now covered with a porous cover, going to have radiation in it that will kill me too? My dogs who went out into the snow: Are they also covered with radiaition? I've been sick pretty much since March 19 but Berkeley got hit really hard with all the rain too which brings down more than just Fuku crap, also I am sick a lot anyway but usually not in this way. I also had a mask and I swoar when I put it on my lungs would feel better, but the thing was a pain so I left it off a lot

I live on the west coast in California. It hasn't had a direct affect yet. All the snails are everywhere, the birds seem to be fine. So if the snails are not affected, I would say that is a good sign! Not sure what to expect in the long run. Much love Dutch! Keeping you all posted on any obvious signs here in Cali. @grizzzlyjoe As Dutch pointed out in another video, almost all the nuclear reactors in the US are on or in very close proximity to fault lines. It is an interesting question as to whether this was intentional as a long range plan. One wonders.....
Surely SOMEONE would have noticed this anomaly in the planning of these reactor sites. Yet we know that those in the loop on such things are trained to obey orders & keep silent on certain matters.

Yep. Have you been watching the radiation network site today? I'm in Georgia so I look at the surrounding areas. North Alabama has been spiking big time. I saw the levels up to 68. I've never seen tham that high in Ala. Plus, we've had rain all weekend here.

Not likely.
So, it goes into the soil, fresh water aquifers, & the sea. Polluting....& killing plant, animal & sea life. Anything connected with fishing anywhere near Japan is potentially toxic for a large & unknown radius.
Asia lives on rice,which requires WATER & seafood.....

@spinnerky2 no geiger counters do not detect any specific thing in the air like iodine, cesium - they do this in a lab by filtering air and water and using lab equipment, or they can use "spectometry" for air. "the U.S. has no static monitoring stations that have specialized detection ability for radioactive noble gases" plutonium is even more difficult to detect. they only revealed the true fallout from Chernobyl 8 years later.

People have to stop panicking about things. Japan's disaster is going to affect us all economically more than it will radiation-wise. And is radiation really your concern? We all microwave our food and hold cellphones up to our brain. If cancer in 30 years scares you, add some kelp to your diet.
I feel for the Japanese though. I think they have a wonderful history and culture considering how much of a tiny percentile of the world they are.

The odd thing is that I am still seeing commercials for Toyota O.o Now....who is going to be making them? Where? Japan's economy, & thus its auto industry, is decimated. You cannot make cars without economic infrastructure.....or healthy workers.
I can assure you that the vast numbers of newly homeless Japanese are not going to be making cars!

@Sourpusscandy There is nothing to 'worry' about, as the Japanese economy has collapsed along with its auto industry. So they have factories in the US. Factories cannot operate without capital, supplies & management. If those firms fold - as they shortly will - those US factory workers will be out in the cold. And poor.
Assuming they can find buyers for the extant car inventory......which is assuming a LOT.....there will be no more Toyotas or Hondas.....
