that was really funny. and everyone's characterizations were really good - especially Mike! a really good Kirk, not over-the-top, but definitely Shatner.
between this and Mike and Hunter in the Roman Fry's, you're my heros.
The best thing I've ever seen on YouTube - I laughed out loud! You've managed to pack almost every Star Trek cliche into your film and the result is a triumph. I particularly liked the inevitable demise of Mr Yakamoto. Please do another Trek parody (if I was a multi-millionaire I'd pay you to give up the day job and concentrate on doing what you're obviously so good at). Many thanks.
This is well-meaning fun, guys. Good job. Fry's should realize that their 50's Invasion display is really cool and would've inspired film crews. But no, they must be heavy handed about things.
"Free Enterprise" has filmed where no crew has gone before: North Hollywood. So you guys film in Burbank, and that's too close to North Hollywood for a round of applause. Maybe if you shot in San Dimas...
I was looking for this one to see again for a long long time, guys id love a autaograhed photo if you can..Ilcover postage, for a DVD too, I want to finda way to download this, Great!!! cfler
Fantastic job on getting a genuine Trek feel on this one & your Shatner impression rocks! Please check out my own Star Trek spoof Car Trek - a Mini adventure.
Marks47 is clearly accurate in all of his remarks. But may I add the terrible cinematography, the shotty costumes, and the absurd casting. I mean why is spock chinese? That's just offensive.
No I'm not a film student, but I am a Star Trek nerd about to graduate from the academy! And I think you self proclaimed fans aren't commiting yourself the way you ought to be.
We have an obligation to stay truer to the people who paved the way for us.
I thought comm arts majors were all about making Cheerios commercials and analyzing demographics. I had no idea that indy filmmaking was on their plate too...I thought indy filmmakers just made indy films, but now I know they take mass comm classes too! Looks like I learned something today!
Half the joke was getting kicked out. Grow a sense of humor, or better yet take that diploma to Fry's security and start marking people's receipts with a highlighter as they leave.
For someone who is about to graduate, you may want to do a bit of homework before you accept that technical school diploma. Stores are public property and anyone has the right to film there. If they ask you to leave the premises and you refuse, then it becomes a legal matter and you can be arrested. For someone who holds up Tom Green as the gold standard of funny, I'm so shocked that you wouldn't know that already.
You can either spend your time bragging about your current college major, or you can actually get out there, shoot something and gain experience instead of wandering from forum to forum like the Roger Ebert of the internet. I'll make sure to open the bag extra wide next time I leave Fry's, so you can make sure I haven't tried to swipe the new Guitar Hero. Sorry should have all been in one post, but there's a word limit.
Do you have any precedent to back up what you are saying? I've consulted with both legal and industry contacts (location managers), and there's no reason why we couldn't. If a public store is private property, then the public who walks through the doors are trespassing. If you are doing something to disrupt their business, and you won't leave, that's a different story.
Great little video. I have posted it on my blog as well as a little statement about it. Very funny and brave. More Trek parodies would not go unwatched guys! -Sebastian.
Very good. I hate that Frys store. I was asked to leave recently after taking a photograph of one of their cool sci-fi displays. Great way to treat your customers.
Cute, very fun. Who are the filmmakers? And who's Mike? Is he the guy who battled Kirk? Is there a secondary level of humor going on here that I don't know about?
Mike McCafferty is Kirk, Ryan Nagata is Spock, George Edelman is McCoy, Ben Pluimer is Sakamoto, and Jason Makiaris is Matt Fry. We all met doing shorts for Channel101 www.channel101.com, and you can see more of our work there.
Mike McCafferty played Kirk and Jason Makiaris played Matt Fry. The secondary level of humor is that we all make legitimately good short films, and ocassionally run into electronics stores with a camera and no script for fun.
pretty funny stuff guys, my brother and i shot some spiderman footage in a target once, and we were worried we'd get hassled, but we were ok. way to keep filming, it was good!
We were loving that this was on the front page of Digg, but then it got removed. Not sure why that happened, but feel free to send this link to your friends. We'd appreciate it.

Lame. So is shooting in a store without permission. (No i don't work for fry's, i'm a film major about to graduate.)
You could easily have been arrested for trespassing.
The manager can now sue you for using his likeness in a commercial endeavor without his permission since he is not a public figure.
You're Tom Green, but not funny.
Sorry. I'm as much for indy filming as the next comm. arts major...
The joke at the end was pretty good though.
