  • What a voice and delivery Liza has... Genes.

  • @jbecker8082 Late reply, I know, but how very right you are. Beautifully put. I love all these people -3 Kander and Ebb were two in a trillion :)

  • <3 <3 <3 <3

  • It's amazing how much Liza resembles her mother. Does anyone know when this is from?

  • @kittystolemycookie94 Chicago ran on Broadway from June 75 to August 77. Liza played for one month, replacing Gwen Verdon, near the end of the run -- say, early in 77. DInah Shore's show "Dinah and Friends" ran 1974-80. I'm guessing this "reunion" is 78 or 79.

  • @Elach86

Someone needs to hit you with a huge fuck off rock for your stupidity and ignorance!! Do your research before you leave dumb ass comments. Fuck you.

  • Can somebody tell me who the lady at the end of the video is?

  • @paradox56533 The dark haired woman in white is Chita Rivera, who starred in the original production of Chicago. The blonde woman glimpsed at the tail end is the show's host, Dinah Shore -- popular singer of the 40s and 50s and TV host in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.

  • Stop worrying about people listening to the glee version. Just listen to the music and enjoy it.

  • Lol I love Liza trying to get her hug at 2:02. She's so freaking cute!!

  • i never knew anyting about liza minelli or chita rivera, and still dont know why i felt so nostagic when i saw this the first time (and many others)

  • who is the woman at the end

  • @jflynn76217 Chita Rivera :)

  • Oh my god!!!! Liza Minnelli's reaction is absolutely priceless! I love it.

  • She Like Almost Pounced That Guy

  • I just want to touch her hair here! it looks so silky and soft ^O^

  • gawd I love liza....my hagness is suprising even to myself..

  • Steve Martin as young.

  • I love watching stars get starstruck! XD <3

  • She's eye fucking me

  • LOL the part where Chit almost puts her arm around him, but then realizes she has to sing into the mic. And the little flubb at the end, but it still sounded fantastic.

  • Liza & Ebb, the best combination possible!!!

  • OHMYGOD!! THE ENDING!! I DIED!!! XD AHH!!

  • I'm to young to understand what's going on -.-

  • love the panda eyes!

  • so cute!!!

  • Lady Gaga.

  • Liza é o máximo!

    Love from Brazil.

  • Vilken kvinna, vacker som en dröm och verkar vara vad hon ser ut som.Underbar!!

  • love her

  • bra....?

  • What a fabulous clip! I would have loved to see Chicago filmed with Liza.

  • @Kasbahkabaret originally Bob Fosse was going to make Chicago with Liza as Thelma and Madonna as Roxie but he died before they could start filming so it was put on hold

  • well she does have a great voice but I can't stand to look at her.

  • @KSitz77

    That's fine - she's a singer, not a model.

  • funny how only strangers posting positives..only strangers.

woopie..liza.. born in it ..& thats all..otherwise..NUTTIN.. & superficially speakin..sure sure..oh gollie oh gosh oh gee whittikers..shes so spayschul. but in real life the website is comin..true colors..no redemption now. too late. everything will be there..its gonna be ..well, listen to the song above...ha!..the site is gonna be all her. everything..from the coffee..to the starlite..limo to the shoes...

  • LOVE LIZA BUT SHE LOOKS HIGH ON SOMETHING IN THIS VIDEO

  • @mu1977000 She looks high on EVERYTHING :D Still sound amazing.

  • Chita and Liza. Truly two of the great dames of Broadway. :)

  • oh my god liza when chita comes on. cutest thing ever.

  • Hey know your history . . . .All the legends together . . .It's sad that all we have today are knock off's of amazing people . Sure today you find many talented stars but not of that magnitude .

  • All I had to do was scroll down a little, first I saw a comment acussing Liza and Chita of "copying glee" and then another which asked which one Liza is! What has happened to the world! Kander and Ebb wrote this song long before Lea Michelle was even born. The ignorance of some people is astounding.

  • @allie5991 One reason more to hate glee

  • @allie5991 i honestly can't stand glee, they take original songs and twist people's minds into thinking THEY made the song

  • @QuesitonsAreCool No, they don't. You just have a few idiots here and there; I've been informed about a number of Musicals and plays THROUGH Glee. So nice try, but nope.

  • @QuesitonsAreCool not true at all....

  • @allie5991 lolol

  • awh! Her reaction is so adorable!!! <3 like a 3-year-old meeting santa!! Both amazing ladies and I'm sure I'd do the same! haha :)

  • BALLZ TO YOU.

  • is this video about glee? no. so why are half the comments about it?

    this is stupid.

glee is a great show that many people watch and enjoy. its not an insult to do a cover, it a compliment. no one is saying that the glee version and if they are then let them have an opinion. people who disagree can have their own. im so sick of reading stupid comments on videos for songs that glee has covered. let them be and enjoy what you're watching.

  • Little help here.

Can someone tell who this is?

    (the lady who surprises Liza?)

  • @MsAnxietyattack Chita Rivera

  • @MsAnxietyattack Chita Rivera, the first Velma, a legend of Broadway

  • @MsAnxietyattack It's Chita Rivera.

  • Fabulous

  • This song makes me cry. I wish I lived in the 20s...

  • I disagree that the Glee version sucks, but this is a legend. Liza, Chicago... everything!

  • I love how people think that Glee did this song before so many people when when in reality, this cover and many others are about 30 years old and that glee's version really sucks

  • Why is everyone comparing Liza Minnelli, who is a legend, to GLEE?! Come on people...at least compare her to someone good and slightly in her league!

  • @Elach86 Nice troll.

  • @Elach86 hahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahaha you should know by the "shitty image" how old this is Glee copyed chicago

  • @Elach86 really bitch...... REALLY! do you have any idea how old this video is first of all. second of all Liza was around WAY FUCKING LONGER then those bitches on glee. You are so ignorant.

  • @Elach86 Glee is so NEW! How old are you exactly cuz only a 5 year would think Liza Manelli who is extremely OLD!! Would have copied glee you need to pay attention to idk what year it is at least. Sorry but it's insulting how ignorant you are. Nd glee is gayyyyyyy lol.

  • eHr hairstyle and make-up are totally back in fashion right now..crazeh

  • @Elach86 you know that thes "two old girls" are just legends? O.o and actually if you knew a little something about music you would know that GLEE copied the original version of chicago. Even if it was great. if you say GLEE WAS so much better, you're wrong and you say GLEE IS so much better . Even if it's not my opinion :)

  • @Elach86 wow your ignorance just floored me. do you know what year this was? 1975 you do the math. excuse me who copied who? I like Glee but please do not even compare them to these talented people in these video who are ALREADY LEGENDS. LIZA MINNELLI. CHITA RIVERA. JOHN KANDER. FRED EBB. DINAH SHORE.

  • @Elach86

Oh my Gods...you are a certified idiot. while i like the show, very little of the songs performed on glee are original to the show.

  • @Elach86 Are you retarded? I'm just wondering.

  • The apple never falls far from the tree

  • She got her momma's talent. <3

  • i love lizas reaction... rofl.

  • which one is liza>

  • @RumnMonkey666 Seriously??? Your asking that question?? I'm at a loss for words...........

  • I wish i had her voice..God she's so talented that it even turns painfull to watch her.

  • AFAIK, Liza's incredible response to Chita Rivera's appearance onstage is a response to Chita's having been released from the hospital. Liza had replaced her onstage for the duration. Wiki says, under "Chicago," that Minnelli replaced Rivera while Rivera was ill.

As to Liza being depressed in her rendition of "Nowadays," the song is supposed to be depressed; it reflects the false cheer of the 30s, even though she'd been in prison.

  • @deloggio actually Liza replaced Gwen Verdon as Roxie Hart, She was the one who was hospitalized. Chita Rivera played Velma Kelly opposite Liza during Gwen's absence.

I think Liza was Just ecstatic and very happy cause she never thought chita would appear like that. It was a complete surprise to her.

  • Just look at the pride on Fred Ebb's face. A lovely man, and much missed in the theatre community.

  • chills.

  • 50 years has come and it certainly has changed! Liza Minelli needs to be reincarnated!

  • shes got a pretty laugh @ 1:30 we love her very much!

  • I got to see them together in Chicago. I went into Manhattan to buy a suit for a school event, sat at a lunch counter at Korvette's with a friend, saw the article about Liza stepping in for a few weeks and raced to the then 46th Street Theater.

  • @pudgeuncle That is cool. Wish to god someone filmed Liza's run on Chicago. That must have been amazing.

  • @randywong There are a few poorly lit cuts on You Tube of Liza in Chicago. Liza was fun and they did modify the choreography, especially Me and My Baby. Her version was like Eddie Cantor and it was fun. It was very strange though when Chita Rivera comes to the footlights in silhouette at the beginning of the show and the audience SCREAMED thinking she was Liza. It was rude when the applause died.

  • Terrific! Well done, ladies! Liza, I love your voice!

  • Yes, I have always loved Liza, have seen her 8 or 9 times in person, from 1973 to 1999. I want to see her again so bad! She is touring, but not coming anywhere near me---hopefully she will again someday! I think this clip of the 'Dinah Shore' show is from about 1974? Does anyone know?

  • I saw Dinah Shore at the very end. It's a shame that we don't have the great variety shows on TV now to afford future viewers great moments like this.

  • Liza and Chita!!! ZOMG - that's perfect!!!

  • This song totally embodies the 20s. It was between two awful, awful times (victorian/edwardian and the great depression) but the it was like a party. Just an amazing, fabulous time.

  • I don't know about you all, but I fell hopelessly in love with Liza the first time I saw her, and the feeling has never changed. She seems so "transparent" even if that "transparency" is an act. She seems so spontaneous and I love her for that.

She how she reacts when her Mom comes signing onto the set.

Warm HUGs to you Liza, you have given us so much.

  • @ceknights10 I agree with you completely about how wonderful Liza is...whenever I feel down, I play anything by Liza, and all is better in the world.

BUT I must point out--that is not her mother....her mother is the one and only Judy Garland. That woman was not Judy Garland, but Chita Rivera, who was also in Chicago years ago. No harm done! :)

  • Oh, Liza. <3

    Just amazing.

  • Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli were two of Broadway's greatest stars in their day. I was in an NYC restaurant at the time of this video, and when Chita walked in, the entire room burst into loud applause...it was like a scene from a film!!

  • shes beutiful

  • phenomenall

  • who is the "big surprise?"

i dont know who that lady is just that it's not judy garland.

  • @walterrobot that would be chita rivera she was the original velma kelly in chicago

  • @AdrianBob89 Who was Liza Minnelli, then?

  • @kakashidemon321 liza was just singing the song she was nobody

  • @AdrianBob89 At that point, she had already done Cabaret, so I wouldn't say she was nobody.

  • @atimnie i didnt mean it like that i meant that when she was performing the song with liza she was neither Velma Kelly or Roxie Hart

  • I love how Fred Ebb jumped up and down with excitement and kept moaning.

  • Why all the query's, looks like Liza just had a fantastic friendship with Chita, is that not ok? People interpret way too much these days.

  • well in the 70's she was one of the biggest stars of the time. She saved Chicago when you took over the roll of Roxie Hart when Gwen got sick. She learned the role in less then 6 weeks and the rest id history Liza we love you

  • She looks pissed to me, or drugged !!!

  • Brava....... Liza.... and for the art's and everyone with culture to keep theater and opera alive..... Bravo....

  • people are going to hate me but why is it such a surprise when chita comes out?

  • OHHMYYYGOOODD!

    WHEN CHITA RIVERA CAME OUT,

    I DIED! OMG OMG OMG

  • I fell in love with Liza the first time I saw her perform, and the feeling is still there.

  • I think LIZA IS amazING!!! Is it me or does it seem like she picked up where her mom left off and just took it even further? I love her mom but now I am loving her too! it's amazing!

  • Liza is freakin amazing.

  • For the record us straight guys love this show biz stuff too!

  • @Pbsmike we gays thank you!!

  • You can even marry Harry, but mess around with Ike. ;)

  • Its only my personall opinion of course but at the beginning she looks like she really needs to go to the toilet or somethink :D but i'm not critising her talent :)

  • She sounds so much like her mom here.

  • Who is the lady who appears singing in the end?

  • @WorldCitizen89 Chita Rivera

  • It looked like she bopped him with the microphone 2:12

  • wonderful

  • lmao she freaked out. xD

  • Aw, to sing next to your idol must be a heart breaking (in the best sort of way) moment.

  • She could have worn a bra !

  • (SPOILER ALERT)

At first I was staring at Liza's beautiful eyes as she was singing this song and thinking "wow, this is incredible". Then Chita pops out and I'm thinking "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD!"

  • This is my most favorite renditions of the this song!!!!!!!

  • I think that Fred Ebb was kinda cute.

  • One of my favorite videos on YT. They all look so happy!

  • I froze when Chita came in!!!! Amazing

  • cutest thing on the planet? absolutely

  • she is so pretty!!! just like her Mother

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • I watched the Westend performance 2 weeks ago! It's fantastic... Chicago is one of my favourite musicals! It is so flawless.

  • @MissusFingerBottom I saw West End perfomance 1 month ago and I totally and completely agree! It is grand show, great music, great actors and great band. Love it

    !

  • When a throat infection sidelined Gwen Verdon from the original production of "Chicago"), Kander and Ebb asked Liza Minnelli to play the role of Roxy Hart opposite Chita Rivera who was playing Velma Kelley. Liza agreed on the condition that there be no announcement in the press and that Gwen Verdon's name remain on the marquee. She had all of one week to learn the music and the choreography (by Bob Fosse no less!) making way for a 5-week phenomenal run at the 46th Theater on Broadway.

  • @thesideshowfreak Thanks for this info on how graciously Liza handled the circumstances of her stepping in for Gwen Verdon. Makes me love Liza even more than ever!

  • forgive me for saying this but who was the woman who surprised liza?

  • @kimbreballin chita rivera, a broadway legend.

  • @coolkid88

    and who's the man crying?!

  • @wondergirl732......muah right back at ya hon.....btw....always been a big Angelique fan here too.

  • Great clip! But "nowadays"? This is from thirty-plus years ago!

  • goddammit!!! what i wouldn't give to sit in a living room with Kander and Ebb and Liza and Chita and Fosse and Bebe and Ann and just play and sing and have cocktails and get the barefoot contessa to make us some nibbles and just have the time of our lives!!!

  • goddammit!!! what i wouldn't give to sit in a living room with Kander and Ebb and Liza and Chita and Fosse and Bebe and Ann and just play and sing and have cocktails and get the barefoot contessa to make us some nibbles and just have the time of our lives!!!

  • Ohh baby some day in heaven we can get this wish...muahhh

    @BetteDavisMimic

  • I love this song

  • that was adorable

liza looked like a child-- so excited!

  • Lizas eyes are compelling.. like, every time I see her in a video or a picture, i just can't stop looking into her eyes.. dark beautiful eyes.

  • "...isn't it joy?" Isn't it?

  • That was marvellous!!

  • Chita Rivera is not hogging the mike. Chita is holding the mike in a position where she can continue singing the song, and have all of it heard, instead of having the lyrics drowned out by the overflowing emotion, hugging and kissing. At the end, when Liza is ready to resume singing, Chita has no problem sharing the mike with her. All these people are pros. They not only had a huge hit show running on Broadway with "Chicago", but they all obviously loved working with each other.

  • Actually, in its first incarnation on Broadway "Chicago" was not a huge hit. I don't believe it recouped its investment. I saw the final performance in 1975. Liza was filling in for Gwen, who was ill. Liza and Chita were great. The show was considered too unsentimental at the time. The huge hit was "A Chorus Line."

  • "Chicago" was a pretty big hit in 1975. I don't know if it recouped its investment, but it ran quite awhile and some of the songs became famous, especially "All That Jazz". It was overshadowed by "A Chorus Line" at the time. The 1998 revival is a huge triumph. This revival is now the 6th longest-running show in Broadway history, and it has spawned an Academy Award winning movie. However, even in 1975, the show was successful enough so that all the participants were happy with it.

  • Did liza do many films? I think I only saw her in Cabaret and Arthur.

  • yup, yup!

  • only us theater fags are tearing up right now.......thank you SO MUCH for that!!!!

  • Uhm, not all theater people are fags.

  • yeah....but most theater people have a sense of humor.....i suggest you get two...one for you and one for the stick up your ass!!!!

  • I have a sense of humor, but fag is a bit too much for me, considering I m very sensitive on that subject. Everyone seems to think I'm gay but I'm not and they treat me horribly. And I don't have a stick up my ass.

  • @BetteDavisMimic lmao theater fags

  • @BetteDavisMimic Long live theater fags.

  • @BetteDavisMimic I believe I have become a theater fag. Between the tears and goosebumps I have to say after this I'm a mess........I just have to watch it again!!!

  • i love how Liza totally flips out!!! They're a good pair =)P

  • just wonderful...Liza and Chita... MY GOD !!! thanks

  • who are the others?

  • @rohinmarker

there is john kander on the piano, and the other is fred ebb, the writers of the musical.

  • I LOVE her eyes they are so sweet and big and her voice is simply amazing and unique and she is soooo entertaining

  • Could Liza be any more darling?!

    :-)

  • What year is this from?

    She was soooo pretty.

  • 1975

  • I love her giant stunning eyes! :-)
