  • 56 people didn't stand by their man.

  • Best song on London Calling

  • 56 PEOPLE SHOULD GET BACK TO THEIR PIPE AND SLIPPERS

  • Always think of 500 Days Of Summer everytime I hear this song.

  • @bigbrogiant4 that sucks for you!

  • This was the first Clash song I fell in love with... I still remember where I was the first time I heard it on the radio. I was sitting in my parent's backyard after cutting the lawn. I heard that amazing opening guitar riff and was hooked instantly!!!

  • Hah, I get it

all aboard the train in vain

  • Comment removed

  • that is the best opening ever. may i be cool enough in this lifetime to be that moment.

  • I dont understand, the only way to find this video is to look it up, why would you dislike it? It makes no sense to me, i just cant fathom the idea of it

  • 56 people got hit by the train

  • NCAA 06

  • @shankmmcgee Good Call

  • Remember when musicians both wrote their own music and played instruments? Rolling Stone had the Clash on the 1989 cover "The Only Band That Mattered" for the 80's.

    Rest in Peace Joe.

  • @TheShiteMaster it still happens now, of course, and there were certainly plenty of musicians-by-committee in the 80s and before

  • Who needs uppers when you got this song?

  • Comment removed

  • I love these guys. They can sing out of tune or do anything they want, and it still sounds great. Besides, this one's a classic!

  • To the 55ppl who didn't like this...Its THE CLASH & that is JOE STRUMMER. Your argument is invalid.

  • Lol why is the guitarist strumming so quickly

  • @rrroach21 he's Joe Strummer, he can do what he wants.

  • @rrroach21 I think you're looking at the bassist.

  • @PiecesOfRainbow7 Nope. Bassist has the cut off sleeves.

  • @rrroach21 Ohhhh, I see... wow, that is weird!

  • What year is this?

  • Some of this riff sounds like it was definitely borrowed by (BY, not FROM) ZZ top. I think the song is called "Legs"

  • @Rusty4488 what are you talking about????

  • @deangelisphl just listen to the guitars. Not exactly the same, but very similar

  • this love version is definitely better than the studio recording ...

  • paul is still using that bass to this day...most recently on the gorillaz tour

  • Punk will never die out.

  • \,,/

  • I heard this song after breaking up with the first love of my life. Thirty-four years later we are getting married. Might have this played during the reception.

  • @UTVOLS1979 Holy shit man, that is some crazy shit man. GOOD LUCK!!!

  • @UTVOLS1979 That's awesome man, glad to hear you guys found your way back to each other!

  • @UTVOLS1979 play this nigga... its obviously good luck

  • @UTVOLS1979 - Great story congrads! Mine never came back, 1979 was a tough year.

  • @UTVOLS1979 Thank G-d for romance and patience.

Blessings to you and may the L-rd let Joe Strummer out of anything owed! Man, miss these guys.

  • @UTVOLS1979 Awesome.

  • this song is on the NCAA Football 06 soundtrack. Awesome!!

  • How can anyone say the Ramones suck? Name one bad Ramones song.

  • @acebojanglesable Ya Really! Ramones!!!

  • I love the power in the vocals. Such raw, pure talent.

  • Coolest looking band ever

  • I'm 15 years old and proud to say my Generation's Music is terrible. Long Live the Classics, My favorites- The Police, The Cure, Billy Idol, ACDC, The Clash, B-52's, Beastie Boys, Rush, Pink Floyd, Twisted Sister, Guns N Roses, and many more. Long Live the Classic Rock :)

  • @BlackOpsDrop Yep, That's my generation of music. Great stuff. I do like some newer stuff but the 70's and 80's are my favorite

  • @BlackOpsDrop I agree. Im 11 and fricking appaled by bands on the radio. Justin beiber sucks lady gaga sucks as does every other hip hop band. LONG LIVE PUNK ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • God, please give us Joe Strummer back. You can have a pop musician of your choice.

  • who are the 55 people who DONT like this song?!?! this song is amazing!

  • What's up with his guitar? That's not Joe Strummer's guitar?!?!

  • My favorite song of my life

  • Good simple riff, steady driving tempo, no whining, great lyrics, and a short but sweet solo. All of the ingredients of classic rock!

  • KILLER KILLER SHIT!

  • Good Rock never dies

  • @99joca good PUNK never dies

  • Mick Jones looks like a cool Jerry Seinfeld,

  • I like this video everytime I watch it.

  • the documentary on joe strummer on the sundance channel was so good. hard to find good shows like that on tv.

i lost a lot of respect for the clash when i became aware of all their politics.it should have been about music and fun which is not a dime a dozen like politics.

when this was out it was music for white boys who were neither jocks nor druggies. i don't know if drug abuse caused joe strummer to have a heart attack he does not look like the druggie type in this video.

  • This is how Rock n Roll should sound

  • Even the Clash and make Disco cool

  • @SamanthaandKate22

I think you meant, "Not even the Clash can make Disco cool".

  • @wuz2blu Touché!

  • piano player = cool

this is a great song but they must have been high in this vid for sure so that messed it up

  • Amazing performance. Amazing look. I wish I still had enough hair to comb into a sweet pompadour.

  • Strummer is one of those gifts you don't realize the Greatness of until He's gone

  • UNFREAKIN' BELIEVEABLE!!!

  • @FugeesTheScore Your crazy I thought they were great but ill admit I have seen them perform this song better but Mick Jones short solo at the end was good

  • GOD PLEASE FORGIVE THE SAD PEOPLE WHO DISLIKE THIS VIDEO

  • @havspeed You have to be the biggest idiot on youtube right now... this song rules... mick jones songs for the clash were awesome and YOU SIR are an idiot.

  • @vicarious1rntu - You may want to re-read what i wrote, kind sir, and reconsider your comment

  • @vicarious1rntu

    who's the dumbfuck now...

  • @havspeed there is no god

  • @havspeed how in the name of all that is right with the universe can anyone dislike this shit?????? This is the ONLY rock and roll that really fucking matters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Rock music doesn't get much better than this- though some Clash purists might find this one overly sentimental compared to their more political stuff. I had the pleasure of seeing them twice in one week on their Australian tour, early 1982. No one ever wore a meaner bass than Paul :)

  • punk,pop.. doesn't mater how u call the music... it's simplicity and it's with style.. one of the rare clash lovesongs. great performance! clash rulz

  • y is this punk?-this sounds more Pop

  • @GNRlast the beauty, and the power of the Clash is that they originally were a great punk band... politics, and dejection at full volume, but as they moved forward- they began to absorb different styles, and experiment with various "styles/sounds" dub, rockabilly, and most obviously pop. THIS song... the one that "broke" the Clash in Amerika is a "one-off"... not a bad song, but hardly a shinning example of what they were about/ stood for. 30+ years ago... and still the only band that matters.

  • @GNRlast ok, I bet you're a Ramones fan, well the Ramones according to the "punk" standard weren't punk but for some reason they are. Also a Ramone song is played at every sporting event, party and even made it to a super bowl commercial. I like the ramones as much as the next guy but the next time you say a tradition "punk" band isn't "punk" because they have a couple of "poppy" songs then you need to look at your favorite bands because have pop songs 2. Sorry that really grinded my gears lol

  • maybe time is KEY

  • Its better than this

besides you dont even know gnr to be talking about

i havent sincerely heard the Clash or their music approach

from what i can tell about this video i dont want to even try to figure out this band

  • @GNRlast

That's your taste I guess. I for one really don't get GNR (tried to, just didn't click) and I love The Clash.

Arguing about who is better doesn't mean shit.

  • @GNRlast

exactly. you can't label a band's genre by one song.

  • i agree this blows, i dont understand why people actually like this

i sought after listening to the Clash because of its naming poping out of everywhere

maybe its just me but i dont like it

  • Comment removed

  • @GNRlast It's just you...

Clash was one of the first true Punk groups to cross over prior to the "New Wave" of the late late 70's and 80's...

  • if i had to listen to this garbage for the rest of my life i would seriously, honestly, genuinely fucking kill my self.

  • Comment removed

  • @OdeToNecrophilia Well no one is making you listen to it! and you must not understand what punks about so hush dude.

  • @GHgirl620 the music sucks, i dont enjoy listening to it. it has nothing to do with "understanding what punk is about".

    this sounds horrible.

  • @OdeToNecrophilia well punk bands mostly play for the fun of it and to show meaning, not to sound "good".. thats what i meant lol

But yeah i guess everyone has their own taste/opinion

  • @GHgirl620 oh alright i see.

  • @OdeToNecrophilia

Who in your opinion sounds better?

I'll admit when I first started listening to The Clash, I didn't like them at all. The entire London Calling record sounded like they were grinding stone together.

But it takes time and patience to hear how nifty their tunes really are, and I love them now.

  • awesome band up there with zeppelin the pistols the beatles the who the stones

  • My God, they look about twelve years old --and at the time I thought they were the wisest sages on earth.

  • The Clash go Pop. Awesomeness.

  • im sure at least one of them is under the influence of something.

  • @zzzzzushi They used heroin, smack. I think they kicked out their drumer from the band, Topper Headon, for doing it too much.

  • Straight out of summer of 1980. The Clash and Ramones was my first exposure to Punk. People my age would most appreciate this music if we were 7-10 years older. Oh well, at least old enough to remember it when it was going on.

  • I just figured out why I love punk music. They are off key, out of time, and generally aren't good musicians, but they make you feel exactly what they want you to feel. Well done.

  • The Clash... Punk Rock Classic

  • there always the toilets !

  • Fucking flawless.

  • I grew up listening to this shit & loving it !! It's just a damn shame no one can begin to really come up with anything of this caliber of true punkdom anymore !!

  • Gosh, they were such babies...Joe even almost looks pretty...

  • "Takin the soul train, we're leavin' for 3 minutes. If you don't wanna come there's always the toilets"

    hahahaha ^____^

  • Moon Over Marin by the Dead Kennedys is another great pop song by a great punk band.

  • they always looked so coked out of their skulls live. so very coked out.

  • Man, they are all really good lookin' in this video.

    Brilliant song as well.

    Thumbs up if you agree.

  • @revivalistblues At the top of their game.

  • I was just thinking, Yeah, what hotties! My kind of guys.

  • @revivalistblues

    Definite thumbs up.

Really miss these guys and all the great 80's music.

  • Love

  • Blistering Mick Jones solo near the end of this classic track. Probably a better version than the studio version.

BTW - This song is about Jones' breakup with Viv Albertine, guitarist for The Slits.

  • @markinkc54 : No offense to you or The Ramones.. But I am certain Joe Strummer would have turned out to be the music God he is with or without The Ramones.

  • @Frotoad I agree . You need to watch the movie "End of the Century" to see the Strummer comments on the Ramones. He pretty much says what I did.

  • @Frotoad I'm saying this as a clash fan... the way they got started was by rehearsing a bunch of ramones songs together to get their feet.... get over it and stop with the pissing contests

  • IT ALL MAY LABELED AS PUNK, BUT THE CLASH IS ACTUALLY A GROUP OF PROPER MUSICIANS.THE RAMONES SHOULD BE COMPARED WITH SOMEONE ALONG THE LINES OF THE SEX PISTOLS.aLL PRETTY SIMPLE STRAIGHT FORWARD POWER CHORD GUITAR WORK .DEFINETLY NOTHING SIMPLE ABOUT THE CLASH.THAT MIX OF REGGAE ,SKA,PUNK,ROCK IS ALL SOMETHING THAT WILL MAKE IT SO WE NEVER HEAR A BAND LIKE THE CLASH AGAIN.

IS THEIR ANY MUSIC THAT HAS COME OUT LATELY THAT U KNOW THAT PEOPLE WILL BEING LISTENING TO 20-30 YEARS FROM NOW?

  • @shneeper radiohead

  • @ohnochuck

yeah, thom york from radiohead has a pretty unique sound.Every new album has a different influenece to it.keeps it interesting .

  • Joe Strummer had nothing to do with the Ramones?????

  • @Frotoad The Ramones suck anyway except for a few songs...

  • @Frotoad ...meh maybe, I mean him and the rest of the Clash climbed into a second story window just to meet the Ramones, I think the Clash's music would've differed very much...

  • Ther would be no Clash if it wasn't for the Ramones. Look it up.

  • @markinkc54 Ramones are incredibly underrated.

  • @DBRGroup dont get me wrong the ramones are good but the clash kick their ass

  • This was as close to a love song as The Clash ever came. Another reason why they were so awesome.

  • My god, what an awesome song

  • amazing song....sick riff

  • excellent live performance

  • joe strummer is a god passi is a fashion

  • this is a waste of life

  • good song but funy how this was a "punk band" lol

  • @boi2613 How is that funny? Not to be rude, but The Clash are the most important Punk band ever to grace Rock and Roll. True this song is more pop and different than their other stuff, but that's what made them punk-doing what they felt and not giving a shit what the critics said.

  • @Devildance1234 like u said its more pop n what not ...

  • @boi2613 Not a goddamn thing funny about The Clash.

  • @Crim122 yea welcome to coversation ur late....

  • @boi2613 listen to "London Calling" and you'll know why

  • @machonachoz know what?

  • Who thinks Mick is the best singer in The Clash? I do

  • where did mick and joe go wrong?

  • @mu4ever90 Mick has since admitted that he started like a prima donna so Joe and Paul sacked. Lived to regret it, of course.

Topper is the absolute best drummer nobody ever heard of. Blew himself up on coke. Saw him do lines in between songs at Capital Theater in Passaic NJ. We stood there and watch him!

  • if only i can hear the song i can press like

  • that is massive, huge man, huge, pete townshend was right, the most important band, the clash, glad I was around and smart enough to know

  • Greatest band ever, period.

  • Rock N Role in the purest form, genius, guts and complete honesty!

  • So sick.

  • anybody know where and when this was recorded? Is there a video of the whole show out there someplace? Letts?

  • Mick Jones is fantastic.

  • a little motown never heard anyone

  • Classic song played with classic speed - Nick C. would have no greater come back than to wait and C.

  • Oh and by the way. Love this song.

  • Clash vs. Led Zeppelin? First of all, two WAY different types of music. And second, do you guys have your head up your asses or what? In fact, you guys make me sick; you're comparing two different bands that don't need comparing to begin with. And I bet you're just using them to boost your fucking Youtube ego and what you have left of your self-esteem. Either listen or shut the hell up.

  • is joe strummer singing or is that mick jones

  • @CrawlingKingSnakeJM That's Mick

  • For the record, Mick your fans will stand by you always. :D

  • This is so good. The Clash were petter musicians than 90% of the "dinosaur rock" acts they sought to supplant. Not sure Led Zeppelin was EVER this tight, just one example.

  • @alexdroogie100 led zeppelin were way better musicians than the clash.

  • @coldplaysucks37 how so?

  • @Slushyyy639 Everyone in Led Zeppelin were some of the best at what they do. The instrumentals in all of their songs are amazing. I do love The Clash, and they were great songwriters. I just think that their technical skill was not as good as more classically trained people.

  • @coldplaysucks37 - and who gives a shit about technical acumen? Led Zepplin was an over-bloated shitpile of hippy dreck. And it's hard to say which is more fucked out: their music, or their groupies. I don't give a flying fuck about Jimmy Page's finger vomit either. Commenting on the Clash by comparing them to Led Zepplin??? Why don't we compare the Beatles to the Lawrence Welk Orchestra while we're at it.

  • @buddiechrist I do agree that songwriting is much more important than technical skill. I don't think that Led Zeppelin was overrated. I do love the clash. The argument started because some guy said that the Clash were better musicians and I felt I needed to correct him.

  • @coldplaysucks37 your right. led zeppelin were way better musicians. all 3 members that played an instrument are in the top 20 best of what ever instrument they played. the clash were better song writers but not amazing musicians. you guys all have to remember the clash was a PUNK band. they didnt really know how to play so their first 2 albums every song was 3 chords. and they taught themselves how to play and by the end they still wernt great. zepelin were better musicins. but not a beter band

  • I always loved The Clash as a young kid, but I have new found respect for Joe Strummer after watching the doc Let's Rock Again. He was truly a force of life.

  • The Clash's music will live to infinity and beyond. I dig many other genres out there but this fucking band and punk are my roots for life !!!

  • This is my favorite song by The Clash. The Clash is awesome.

  • That's 51 Youtube users who won't be getting a Kwanzaa card from me this year.

  • @DragonDDT Will you actually send me a card?

  • @vansrok1 I mean, I'll try, but with Boxing Day landing around the same time, i just don't know if I'm gonna have enough time to mail them out this year.

  • @DragonDDT lol kwanzaa

  • @DragonDDT I didn't get one but I clicked the like button 2,889 times.

  • The first Clash song I ever loved. It was love at first listen.

  • "Saint Mick" standin' tall

  • yeeeeaah she never stood by me either.........

  • This song fucking rocks.
