I am glad this all looks so easy on your end, when you get to python "just go ahead and install that" Yeah... Install it how? Unpacking python 26 to the c drive obviously is not enough of an install for blender as it balks in the console, no installed python found. the next version of python (27) has an install, but blender does not like that version installed either.
I don't know if this is helpful to anyone or not, but I kept getting the script error, THEN I discovered it was because, instead of dragging the primstar folder into scripts, I dragged the contents. Going back, putting the contents into the primstar folder again, and dragging that in made it work.
i know that was a silly error, but I thought I'd share because it's amazing to me how such small errors cause big problems, like I downloaded 3 versions of python because I was so confused LOL
Man I dont know why but when now I create a sculpt as you do by scaling the polygon to "separate" 2 blocks, it jerks off it's not planar anymore, but like all wrong I dont know... maybe I could send you some screenshots and you could lend me a hand ?
It does not go by me it come ha error message Phyton Script Error Check console. and in that console stay that message File string, line1, in module
File C:\Programme\Blender Foundation\blender-2.49b-windows\scripts\primstar\add_mesh_sculpt_mesh.py, line 48, in module from primstart import sculpty ImportError: No Module named prmistart
Make sure that when you copy the files to your scripts folder, ONLY copy the Primstar folder, not the extra individual files. Also, make sure your version of Python is the right one. For Blender 2.49b (Which works now, the video is outdated) it's Python 2.6, not the current 2.7. (At least for windows. For MAC it's 2.3 or 2.5, and for Linux it's 2.5 or 2.6)
I went to the Link for the scripts and i couldn't find them. They changed the site from when you posted, and it keeps sending me to other sites besides the scripts.
i actually found a really easy way of getting everything in one package, jass-2 includes full setup you dont have to do anything except run installer, no dl scripts or dl and installing python. does everything for you. And its presets are great.
@rockytandy2 2.49a IS actually still available, it just takes a little more looking to find it. On the Blender homepage, click download. Then, on that page, click 'Older Versions' (In the toolbar just below 'Get Blender' splash). Follow the link to the archive, and find 'Blender2.49a'. The last menu shows all the files, and you can find your OS' version in this list.
@BlenderSL - I had the same question - I found blender-2.49a-win64-python26.zip where you suggested - however the extracted files has no file there to install the program. Dead end. Thanks for your efforts, however. PS - next time speak a little slower when doing the steps - you were going so fast it is almost incomprehensible. I may seem a fine pace if you know already the material, but when someone is trying to follow along it gets confusing. Thanks.
@rockytandy2 - Hi - I found where you were referring to, but there is jut blender-2.49a-win64-python26.zip - there is no executable file to install the file!
@nowaynohow26 This seems to be a common question for viewers of my tutorials... the only thing I can think to check is to make sure you're using the right Blender version. You should be using Blender 2.49a, which is NOT the most recent version (2.49b is). The newest version won't work properly with the scripts without some further tweaking.
@BlenderSL Oh thats my problem thanks i was having the same problems but now the sight looks totaly different which one do install theres like a whole page of different ones?
The program gives a message that I need the scripts from the python site.... Where can I get the scripts, after the download there are no links to the python site. I have to install python another program? AND scripts?
The program gives a message that I need the scripts from the python site.... Where can I get the scripts, after the download there are no links to the python site.
The program gives a message that I need the scripts from the python site.... Where can I get the scripts, after the download there are no links to the python site.
The scripts, I'm not sure if i downloaded the right ones, I found something that looked right, did what you said with the script folder, and the setup, When i go to add a Sculpt mesh, it says : Python Script Error: Check console. Besides that everything looked like what it was supposed to, unfortunatly the sculpt mesh isnt rezzing in Blender. If you have advice maybe, i downloaded the scripts wrong, please let me know! Thank you.
Can anyone tell me what's wrong with this download? I've tried several times to download and although I click "run" when the download is done, the little thingy just goes away and that's it. No prompt to get python, nothing. It's not on my computer either, so I guess it won't download at all, but just looks like it's downloading. Any help?
when you click on the link there in a sub title saying " releases " or somthing, .. below there it says veiw all releases , click that, then scroll down to find your scripts.
Great Tutorial. Domino Designs site is moved or reorganized, but the script pack is still avail and installed just fine with your clear instructions.
Odd thing for me was finding the next in this series of tutorials first. Thought my Blender install was broken.
This tut got me fixed up :D
So tnx and can't wait to import sculpties into my OpenSim regions. OpenSim being the OpenSource version of a SL like environment that can use the SL viewer to access grids running OpenSimulators.
I just downloaded Blender and found that the version of Python I need is not available so I downloaded and installed the latest version of Python but blenders still says version2.52 needs to be installed and that version is not on the python website.
So I don't get the part where your setting your default python script location. I found my blender scripts, but whenever I try to upload it, it never works. Can you help me? hehee it'd be alot of help if you do!!!
You're telling Blender where to find your scripts, so that it can use them. Click the folder next to 'Python Scripts' (Or similar, not sure on exact), and select the folder that has your scripts in it, then hit OK, or whatever the confirmation is. Then save user defaults with CTRL+U
CTRL+U saves your user defaults, every setting, etc. This makes it so you don't have to change everything to your preferred settings every time you boot up Blender.
Nice and clear video's Too bad that my middle mouse button does not work, I cannot rotate the cube. In the view & controls there is what I see no way to set this to another button. I have middle mouse in the scrollwheel,
When I get home and begin updating my videos, I'll address this in the video itself...
An alternate method is to use Alt+LeftClick to rotate your view. Also, if using a laptop without a middle button, you can emulate a 3-button mouse by pressing both left and right at the same time, as long as it's allowed in Blender's settings (View and Controls), which it is by default, but this can be sketchy.
Alt+LeftClick is your best option without a true middle mouse button. Have fun!
Thanks! that sure is a great solution. Also want to say that you're doing a great job with explaning, Although english is not my native language, I have no problem following you.
As long as you set the Python Scripts location properly, it shouldn't really matter where you put them.
I'm not entirely sure what your problem is, though. Extract the scripts to a specific location, and then set that location as the Python Scripts location in the User Settings window of Blender.
Current Python version is 2.6.1 (Or 3.0.1). I believe the Windows installer for either works on XP and Vista. I have 2.6.1 installed, on XP, and only see a 'Wnidows installer' link, no 'XP' or 'Vista' specific ones.
I've just started, obviously, but I'll be going through with a lot of tutorials over time, from the very basics to the relatively advanced areas of Blender sculpting ^-^
