Two hearts - like all other Time Lords. And the technique used for these titles is exactly the same animation technique as used in "2001". it's called "slit scan".
That first sting sound at the end of each Who episode is the greatest creation for any TV show, ever. Other TV soaps don't have the same effect after leaving you in suspense, but Doctor Who's chilling stinging sound at the end adds magic to the suspense.
pre-1980 (when the Peter Howell arrangement was introduced), there were 3 (or maybe 4) eps on Invasion of Time, final episode of Armageddon Factor and Shada was planned to have it on its final episode - but that never happened for obvious reasons!
you mean the middle eight? They did use it on some episodes of 1978 adventure invasion of time and the final part of 1979 adventure Armageddon factor.
Agreed - the Middle Eight has been my favourite section of the ever-famous theme tune ever since I first heard it (which, for those of you who are interested, was at the end of the omnibus edition of The Keeper of Traken), so failing to hear it in any version of the theme is always a disappointment for me. I was thrilled when it was restored at the end of The Christmas Invasion!
Ah, this might be the ending I was thinking of.

@AidanLunn And some of Talons Of Weng Chiang.....
Borusa1976 7 months ago
@Borusa1976 It wasn't. I've just finished watching that and I can tell you there is no middle eight on the end titles of any Talons episode.

i used to be dead frightened at the very end if these closing credits cos of that scary, sudden alien like sound that replaces the theme.
infatc i usually blocked my ears and eyes at that bit.

That "scary, sudden alien like sound that replaces the theme" *IS* the theme!

I think they meant that hissing noise when they showed the BBC logo.
MrPsychic8472 1 year ago
@MrPsychic8472 Yes, i meant to say that it is part of the theme tune. If it's not part of the theme tune, then why is it joined onto the theme tune?
AidanLunn 1 year ago
Random closing note for the BBC?
MrPsychic8472 1 year ago
@MrPsychic8472 No, it's prt of the theme tune.
next thing people will be saying that the cliffhanger "sting" isn't part of the theme tune.

The middle eight rules! Respect due to Peter Howell for bringing it back.
Murray Gold should be shot for dissing (*) it!!
(*) Er, I think that's the vernacular the youth of today use ;-)

all except the 60s episodes and the first couple of Pertwee eps have the sting.

When the BBC retransmitted some of the 2 x 45-minute Colin Baker stories sliced into 4 x 23 minute parts, some of them lacked that.
I only remember this because I'd sampled that for use with my Amiga, and found out much later the reason for it.

it sucks how they didnt use the bridge in this version of the theme.

i know about those few exceptions, but the most used version of this didnt have it, which just makes it seem incomplete.
