  • His autobiography is amazing. To think that one of the most famous characters of all time had difficulty getting roles! Gives me hope that someday I might be able to make it, too.

  • good night col potter

  • best show ever seen on tv/rip harry morgan!

  • Love MASH.

RIP harry morgan. Dec 7 2011

  • He doesn't look at all like he did when he played the Skipper in Gilligan's Island. He gained a lot of weight after the show I guess. I miss seeing him in that pink tutu and knee boots on that show. Ah, memories.

  • @coolstuff4youanytime You sure you've got the right person here?

  • alan alda is now in a movie called tower heist just out in theaters

  • @long263 that movie was sooo good i loved it

  • I have been watching MASH since it FIRST aired. I love this show, it is my most favorite show of all time. I am in love with Alan Alda so much, that I wanted him to come to my wedding. At that point in time, there was no internet, so he was not in attendance. This would have made my wedding MORE memorable!!!

  • @xOhLookItsAMYx I remeber when he would always win the Pweople's Choice Awards EVERY YEAR he was nominated for best male tv actor. I will always associate the People's Choice with Alan Alda.

  • I love this guy so much. I've been a MASHer for 5 years now, and it has been my DREAM to meet this guy and the cast. No joke. This show changed me so much. I can never make fun of war in the same way that I used to...LONG LIVE THE 4077

  • The whole family watched this when we grew up. We used to say hawkeye was our dads long lost twin. They looked exactly alike. Still do say this to him today.

  • it saddens me to see him so old after getting used to him as he is in MASH

  • I JUST GOT IN TO WATCHING MASH 2 YEARS NOW AND SEEN EVEY ONE BEST SHOW OF ALL TIMES.

  • whoa...his voice stays the same.. :0 cool..

  • Alan, your humor can never die!

And M*A*S*H is a concert of great jokes and humanity!

  • I've only just discovered M*A*S*H but I already love Hawkeye (Alan Alda) and the show in general, its just so entertaining :D

  • Isn't this the guy that played Fred Sanford on that Star Trek show?

  • juiceman!

  • Seldom was anyone seen smoking on MASH, especially cigarettes. (Indeed, in the only episode I remember seeing anyone (even an extra) smoking a cig he was doing so in a no-smoking area and was reproached by Potter!) In truth, in that time and place, probably 80% of the soldiers (including) the doctors!) would have smoked. Mr. Alda seemed not to give a hoot about accuracy. Instead, he apparently believes in historical revisionism. This fits in nicely with the left wing slant of the show.

  • @litwriter100 You really think the show wasn't authentic because the characters didn't smoke cigarettes? How bizarre. So you would rather they got lung cancer in order to be accurate? I'm sure there are many minor details in the show that didn't pertain to the message and general atmosphere of those times, but that's not what was important. And Frank Burns and Hot Lips hardly gave a left wing slant. So there were both perspectives.

  • It's so sad... Alan Alda used to full of black hair!!!

  • I don't know if Alan Alda knows this. The names Alan or Alda are a frequent clue or answer in almost every crossword puzzle, and if he can get through one of these boring puzzle books, boring because they are so easy, he will see I'm telling the truth, and it's probably the stupider people like me, who work the easy puzzles, who think about Alan Alda every time they work a puzzle. He's better than counting sheep.

  • the thing with Mr. Alda is.....do you Love HIM ? or do you love Hawkeye Pierce ?? the later is a character........However, i like to think there is ALOT of Alda IN pierce.

  • I hate war as much as the next person but i think its a natural way of population control

  • but i mean that the real war is much worse then they show in mash

  • Alan Alda is one of my favorite actor of all time.

  • Man is there a better show than this?? Nope!!!!

  • We did Alan, thank you for that.

  • I never knew why people are so childish. Killing innocent people because of what should be a verbal dispute is pure ignorance. Gang fights are illegal, but killing a citizen of contrasting nationality is okay? Whoever made that up was confused. Anyone who thinks that war solves problems needs to grow up and stop listening to bullcrap. That's why mash is my favorite show. Some parts are hilarious, and some serious, all keeping the same message. My favorite episode is the dream episode.

  • @TheNapoleonnerd actuley war has to hapan some times and History proves it with that said Mash Is the best TV show ever made and Alan Alada evon with all his libral ways and thinking Is fantastic and very underad im glad to have 11 seasons of Mash to fall back on

  • i just found out that he was in the army reserves and he was actually stationed in korea after the korean war. crazy

  • i was hoping he would pull out the red robe, just for one last time

  • The show was just the best! And is still watched today!! when on.

See if any others is there?!

  • talk about making mockery of war the funniest

  • @TheMsautobodyman That wasn't really what I get from it, it's showing humor as the strongest element to COMBAT the reality they were in, as Alda is saying, it's a harrowing job they all were doing

  • @TheMsautobodyman Did you even listen to anything this man had to say or did you just decide to spout off on YouTube because you felt like it?

  • Incredible his voice is still the same! I expected a young Alan Alda sitting there that's so amazing. I love his work and everything about him. He inspired me to become and Actor, one day I really want to be as good as he is!

  • Did he ever get married????

  • @taylorrocks81 He's been married for sixty years.

  • It was a great anti-war program

  • Alan Alda,

Thank You for Being You, Red heart on boxer shorts and all...You are the best keep being you.

Love and Light Mary Anne Atell

  • I'm 12 years old and I've been watching this show for almost 3 years and I am convinced that MASH is the BEST SHOW EVER MADE. All the characters reflect a different aspect of human nature, they all have strong and weak sides. This show is incredible and is brilliant, witty, sad, wonderful, and realistic yet not depressing. It's such a shame that shows like this are sooooo rare i have never seen one like MASH.

  • @MissFunnyBunnyLOL I'm 21 and I've been watching reruns since I was 16. My grandpa always watched them before, but I never paid much attention. You're right, it is a great show. And with many of the unpopular wars we find ourselves in, MASH is more pertinent than ever. Most of those situations could easily be applied to Iraq, Afghanistan, and now, Libya (with updated technology, of course).

  • @MissFunnyBunnyLOL Same Im 13 and I am a bigger fan then anybody I know who watches It I have all of the seasons on single case CD's and the in-famous "Martinis and Medicine Collection", shirts, coffe cups, It never gets old and I become sad when Im done watching everything.

  • @MissFunnyBunnyLOL im 14, and I've watched it since i was 2

now id rather watch mash then anything else

  • Alan Alda is my favorite all time actor id love to spend a couple of minutes talking to him and you know whats strange is that his voice after all these years hasnt changed a bit???

  • @DavidKWegley

When I first saw the show in the UK the BBC would not allow the canned laughter, it was a long time later when I saw a re-run on a satellite channel that I realised that it was ever there in the first place, and I couldn’t watch.

  • @DavidKWegley How so?

  • When I first started watching M*A*S*H I was 11, that was 7 years ago.

  • @Horst725 - Seconded.

  • My god, he's got the greatest voice ever.

  • to say how old the show is i love it, it is my fav show ever

  • I'd like to bounce Alan Alda's head around like a basketball.

  • Great writers and great actors make a great series. No show can be successful without both. I love Lucy, Seinfeld etc. just to name a few examples.

What also made mash successful was the new blood that came in at season 4 and 6.

When trapper left, BJ came and made it better. Same as when Potter replaced Blake and especially when Winchester replaced Burns. Potter and Winchester were exact opposites of Blake and Burns which created so many new possibilities.

Hats off to Larry Linville. He knew w

  • Apparently some of you jackasses don't realize the impact and significance this show still holds today with Iraq and Afghanistan...and until YOU volunteer to deploy like the rest of us....this show ALWAYS lightened our moods and brought us back home, if only for a brief 20 mins.....

  • after season 3.. mash just sucks.. why did they take out trapper and blake.. when i started in season 4.. i just wanted to cry.. its just not the same..

  • @xrikimarux trapper was going by himself

  • I cried when I saw Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen. I'd scene every episode at least twice. I am currently 15 years old. It was just a very powerful show for me. M*A*S*H was awesome!

  • Mash SUCKED!!!

  • @comlien

så bra at det går på tv2 zebra da

its good its still on reruns here

  • That man should have gotten every award possible for acting. He is one of the most diverse actors that has ever graced any screen. I know he wasn't the only actor in M*A*S*H*, but he did make the show. Gotta love that man!!

  • I recently watched M*A*S*H on TV when I was somewhere (since I don't have a TV). I noticed in the intro that the helicopters had the symbol of the Caduceus of Hermes/Mercury. Was this really used at that time? I wonder why this is often mistakenly used instead of the accurate single snake coiled around the staff ... the Rod of Asclepius - the Greek God of Medicine. Anyway , this is a bit of trivial observation - M*A*S*H was an awesome show and I remember watching it all the time as a kid

  • @zetetic0void That's the U.S. Army's insignia for the Medical Corps. With the two snakes.

  • this is too quiet!

  • He still sounds exactly the same, even 40 years later!

  • Nobody knows why it works? I disagree. It works because it is the best show ever made.

  • I first saw "MASH" (the movie) over new year's...I honestly expected it to be more like "Band of Brothers'- some good jokes, sure, but mostly serious, after all the freedom of an entire country- actually two countries, both the US, and Korea- depended on it.

  • i fucking love this show. ive watched it since i was 11 or 12 and its one of my favorite shows of all time.

  • i am 14 and i love mash. unlike most tv shows they hardly swear and its not showing bad things.it was funny because the actors made it funny.my fravorite it radar. gary bergof is my top because we can relate .from his caricter is short has glasses .i am the same way.i think people really like mash because they can relate to one of the charicters .with klinger he would do anything to get out of the army.or frank berns....ol ferit face. my saddest are radar leaving henrey dies.then the last one

  • mash is awesome my dad loves it and i always watch it with him

they should make a new version of mash

  • @dman9962 NO! No studio could match this now, they would focus on casting big stars, regardless of how well he/she would play, or understand the part, and commercialize it beyond recognition.

I love the show, but thinks that the spirit that made MASH what it is doesn't exist anymore.

Wish they would air it on more channels though, it's getting hard to find.

  • i looooooove mash but the creators/producers said it's wasn't so much anti war as it was anti establishment.

  • M*A*S*H beste Serie ever - den Spielfilm kann man dagegen vergessen. Toll das *HAWKEYE* hier 30 jahre nach der Serie ein Interview gibt - sind ja sonst schon fast alle tot.

  • I love this man.

  • I am a MASH lover. I have seen all them over and over and . . Well. . .I also like

    Trailer Park Boys

  • 6 members of the 8063rd disliked this video!

  • I am from Ukraine and Mash 4077 is my favorite show. I love it. I think its the best show. I can watch each episode over and over again. My daughter is 6 years old and she lives mash too. Her favorite caracters is Radar and Cleaner( I know I spell wrong) It's too bad that many of actors already died.

  • @abcolson My fav characters were Radar and Klinger too!!!

  • THE GREATEST TV SHOW EVER CREATED!!!!!

  • Yawn....Zzzz Zzzz Zzzz Zzzz Zzzz

  • it did nnot glorify was - it did not trash war. My father who was a military Dr said it was the reality they lived. So mash was a true reality show.

  • i think mash was one of the best shows on tv*************** LASTED 11 YEARS

  • I'd sure like to defy anybody who didn't watch McLean Stevenson's final episode,"Abyssinnia,Henry" to say that they weren't at least touched inside at the final scene in the O.R. where Radar comes in and delivers the tragic news!

  • I am from Poland and I do not care about american politics, so I was pretty fair about this series..... i LOVE IT. I watched every season , every episode over 5 times, I do agree with whole ideas about showing the case of war, antiwar, insane insanity of sane peoples..... and of course the humor. Everithing is great. I do like also series like Scrubs, Friends and so on, but M.A.S.H. IS THE only one that is so real, so scary and on top of that real. It's the best

  • after all the years his voice is still as awesome as it was back then.

  • Thank you Hawkeye from Germany - greatest M*A*S*H for ever.

  • It is amazing how many shows early on where not very popular at first

  • The show was exquistely written and beautifully acted. I'll never forget it.

  • Such a brilliant show. To this day... brilliant.

  • I just watched seasons 1-11 of MASH, and i still cant get enough of it! One of the greatest shows ever made!

  • HE hasn't change a bit and his voice is identical

  • i am 19 and i work with people that r convicts rednecks and everything in between but wats cool is tha after so many years later i can strike up a conversation about mash and more than one person could tell me what happen in that episode its a true testamnet to what powers this show has

  • this show makes me wish people never grew old so that we could watch forever but, all good things come to an end and all bad like the korean war

  • @scooburu100 The Korean war still isn't over (in a way)

  • *** AMAZING, GOGGLE THESE M*A*S*H ACTORS BY NAME, THEY LIVE TO BE VERY VERY OLD OR THEY DONT DIE, HARRY MORGAN IS TAKING THE LEAD AT 95 YEARS OLD AND STILL GOING

    Dennoch, die beste sendung Ü*B*E*R*H*A*U*B*T*

  • greates man alive*

  • Not only is his voice the same, his mannerisms are the EXACTLY the same!

  • mash is in my opinion the best show i've ever seen! it's strange, because everyone i know who's my age can't even sit thru one episode, and i can watch it endlessly for hours. the concept of acting crazy to keep from going insane... it sounds wrong, but when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.

  • @MissFunnyBunnyLOL IMHO with MASH there would have never been E.R on TV...MASH is still a great TV show my dad got me watching i have watch alot of the tv shows and movie..

  • @MissFunnyBunnyLOL I'm 4 years younger then you and I loved MASH I can sit threw more then one episode so there your wrong about the age groups . Because alot of my friends around my age that can watch the show and sit still for it. :-P

  • M*A*S*H is the best anti war show I have ever seen. No sane person wants war and that is why people identify themselves with the show. Furthermore, the show reflects a deeply tragic and sad situation, it is always inspiring to see people making the best out of a impossible situation. Last but not the least, the show has a brilliant and excellent humor. So much character and class is hard to find nowadays. 10/10 from Norway.

  • @comlien It was a feature film before it became the series. Back then, the Vietnam War was still in place until a cease fire in 1973, although the war didn't end until the fall of Saigon in 1975.

The series reached a turning point in 1977 as things became more dramatic, and the biggest episode yet to come was "Goodbye, Farewell, and Amen." To this day, I find myself getting goose bumps seeing the final scene with Hawkeye taking off in the last chopper, the word "Goodbye," and the music.

  • @comlien

    så sant, så sant :)

  • Alan Alda is one the most underated actors of all time! His humor, wit, timing, and intelligence on screen and off are appreciated by his fans. He seems humble, knows the buisness (not impressed by the smoke and mirrors) just really grounded. My mom wondered how M*A*S*H "kept my attention" seeing as how I was so young; It was because of Alan Alda and his character on the show. I just "got him" and connected with him, and that's why I watched

  • @atlasshrugged2u Are you also aware that Jamie Farr punched out Alan Alda on set one day? Because Alda did not like doing scenes with "Klinger" he thought it was beneath him as an actor. After weeks and weeks of Alan making fun of Jaimie as Klinger. Farr had had enough. He cleaned his clock and apparently gave him what for pretty good. Alan never bothered him again after that.

    True story!!!

  • @atlasshrugged2u Yea i agree my mum showed me it once and i just kept watching it and LOVED IT! and it was only because of him!

  • actually the show didnt work.. too much bullshit liberal messages of the 60s and 70s put into the 50s warfare.. just plain stupid.. they just refused to stop the damn show and they put out a HUGE media frenzy for the show .. selling everything, but actually we did not get IT, we got mclain being funny as hell, and hot lips legs.. other than that NOTHING.. But i must admit . because of the liberal shit of the show i realized i had to join the marines to make sure this shit never happened for real

  • @kingslegion1

The show didn't work? It ran for 11 years and its finale was the most highest rated television program EVER.

Are you the grandson of Major Burns? lol

  • I love MASH. Favorite show ever, so when I said to my German crush that it was my fav and he said was is MASH I almost had to stop talking to him. Instead I guess I need to send him some DVDs

  • All of the characters on "Mash"were real, Mr.Alda..except for "Major Burns","Col Flagg" and "Col.Blake"."Burns","Flagg" and"Blake"were just stupid comedic fools..who did very little for the show's growth.

  • @143AC I disagree. Burns had a child like personality which ironicly matched with Hawkeyes personality which somehow spurred conflict between the two. I dont know about you but blake, like other characters on the show, gave me a personal connection with him. Now later on in the show when *spoiler alert* Major Winchester came in as a replacement to Burns, had many heartfilled moments, even though his personality was pompous, severe and harsh at times. *followup*>>>>>>>>>>

  • well ive found yet another reason why i hate my generation! you type in mash and you get mash ups (dont give a damn) then the one that realy got me was "mash potato song" what the mother F#@&!NG heck is that? i want to watch my favorite show not some stupid kids talking about potatos!!!? jesus!

  • RESPECT HAWK RESPECT MASH !

  • You could have a thick black paper over the screen, hear this, and think it was recorded during the time of the filming of M*A*S*H

  • He hasn't changed a bit. Great actor!

  • I can't believe he still sounded that way!

  • North Korea (which the show Mash defended) is still bad about letting people worship God! Google an article called "Pyongyang:Christian Executed in public for distributing bibles"!

  • @Bestmanme08 ummmm.......What? I think you should attend your history class more often. The US and its UN allies fought with SOUTH Korean forces against NORTH Korea whom was backed by China. (other than that, you are right about N Korea being very anti-religious

  • @Bestmanme08 Mash didn't defend North Korea (as far as showing the opposite side of the war if that's what you meant). Mash was about showing war as a bad part of life no matter what side you were on.

  • @Bestmanme08 World and times are changing. In former centuries christians executed others for not worshipping or worshipping god in another way then "their" way.

and i've never heard that N-koreans executed Buddhists for practicing their religion. So its not anti-religious, its anti-christian, because christianity comes from the west.

  • This show was great to grow up watching. Superb. Great writing. Great Actors. Great Ideas.

  • I'm only 16, but this is one of my favorite sitcoms. Goes to show how well good comedy lasts....

  • @EoinHarnettFilms I am two years older and It's my favorite show ever, and my friends are like why it's so old. I'd say because of it's acting by Harry Morgan, Alan Alda, Mike Farrell just to name a few.

  • his face stayed also the same xD only his hear is a bit different...

  • I use to be a big fan then Alan Alda played the republican candidate for president in West Wing and I lost all respect.

  • @Boberston222 That's because you never were a real fan to begin with. You obviously have an agenda. The West Wing is a t.v program. The fact you're against Republicans and that you're choosing a side shows you have an agenda and you are wrong. I'm an American, I don't pick sides and neither should you. Go with truth alone. Veritas! Alan Alda is a fine actor and fine man. A real fan is with his adored in the high's and lows.

  • Haha! Old Hawkeye but still the same old Voice x3

  • Shows of such value are hard to come by. The value gone by.

  • As old as he is, he still looks and sounds just like Hawkeye!

  • the only show my family was ever able to agree on watching was MASH

  • One of the best t.v. shows of all time! It's the show that had everything in it, and it wasn't over done.

  • fuck i love this show

im only 16 but damn it is so great

i love the humor and the characters in it

    love this darn show

  • "I can't say that I've loved you all. But I've loved as many of you as I could!"- Hawkeye. i love mash,

  • He is such a brilliant actor! And such a nice man in general.

  • I have been compared to Hawkeye when it comes to my humor. I am fast on my feet and can think up original comebacks fast. I love MASH, and I would love to meet Alan Alda. He is in my top five of favorite actors. I still watch MASH twice a day, to this day. Hah...

  • MASH wouldn't have been the same without him, he was amazing in MASH :).

  • I love Mash. I watch the reruns everyday. I also own the first 2 seasons and I am hoping to buy all of them soon. The best episode has to be the Tuttle episode

  • @iowaguy6942 very true...the Tuttle episode was the best of them ALL.

  • @tcone31792 no, sometimes you hear the bullet where his child hood best friend dies on his table. season 1

  • Some crazy shock-jock once said that "Mash is simply not funny." He must be from Mars because Mash is the funniest show ever and I really do pity his ignorance.

I watched the very first episode when I was seven and I'm still watching and laughing and crying. Mash touches the human cord and if it doesn't you gotta be E.T...

  • bridie- I'm 12 and i love m*a*s*h . I watch it every day!!!!!!

  • i use many many of his "Hawkeye" one liners grew up watching with my folks, im 35 and a better rounded smartass cause of his work on mash

  • MASH is an awsome show, and Alan Alda was the salt and pepper :)

  • amazing to see how much he has changed..

  • I'm only 13 but this show was on all the time in my house as a baby and then I didn't really know what was going on in the show but now I try to see as many episodes as possible. Most likely I will buy all of the seasons on DVD.

  • Best DAMN show that ever hit tv PERIOD and iam 26 lol (mom interduced me this show to me, and I LOVE IT)

  • @SakuraAvalonBleac25 Same here man. Grew up watching this with my dad. I'm 23 now and I still think its the best show ever.

  • i love MASH so much im only 13 but kid usually dont like old shows like this but i love it so much so does my mom

  • Mash will forever be known as one of the very best shows Ever!!! Great characters, actors and story lines. Still as good watching today as yesterday.

  • I was 21 when I really fell in love with MASH in England. I'm nearly 50 now, but still regard it as one of the all-time greats. I heard that Alan gave himself a new birthday after nearly dying - October 19th. Well that's my real birthday!!! So it's nice to feel a sense of connection to someone who was a part of timeless literary excellence! The show was a tour deforce of ethical scruples and artistic talent! Well done Alan. Well done all who were associated with MASH.

  • Jamie Farr once said in an interview that he still clearly remembers the day when he got the one-day filming job of playing Max Klinger in a single episode of MASH.

He was convinced that it would be a simple one day work job all actors live from while trying to establish a career and he would be unemployed by the end of the week.

But his portrayal of Max Klinger was so popular with the audience that the one day job turned into a 11 years lasting contract as a regular on the show. :-)

  • I think they should do specal we its real time and the remaning cast meets to make an epsode of a reuninon

  • @acwred Or Hawkeye appears on House MD as Hawkeye and it turns out that Hawkeye's Hospital is were House did his training

  • dosent seem to have aged that much

  • i love mash

  • "Franklin D. Whitebread weds Miss Cynthia Soon-To-Be-Frigid.""

  • a grat man Alan Alda is in life and on the TV show M*A*S*H i thinck so

  • Love this TV show i have to say Radar and Hawkeye where my favorite! Winchester was funny even know Hunnicut and Hawkeye played pranks on him!

  • alan rulez

  • Love him

  • I love how Alan Alda still sounds the same after all this time.

  • I know, isn't that great? Alan Alda may have grayed quite a bit since his M.A.S.H. days, but he sounds the same and (according to one science program he did for PBS) he still has the brain of a 40 year-old, despite the fact that he's 74 now.

  • TV's Mash discussed in great new bio (Charlton Heston:An Incredible Life) at amazon!

  • I remember this one episode...

Hawkeye was ill and didn't get better at all...

After a while they had Dr. Sidney Friedman coming in to talk to him and it turned out to be some horrible childhood experience that resurfaced and manifested in health issues.

When Hawkeye realized this ...his reaction was so.. deeply felt and emotional ... I cried myself for a cpl of minutes...

Alan Alda is truly one of the greatest! And so is the whole show!

  • @csmayer ya that episode is called bless you hawkeye. i own every episode of mash

  • @csmayer yeah. That was the last episode "Goodbye farewell and amen"

  • His voice hasn't changed a bit. I love Alan Alda.

  • Delicious!

  • NO ONE LIKE ALAN ALDA!!!

  • @ mstank77, go curl up and die you irrelevant freak.

  • I think mstank77 is saying that there is no one like Alan Alda! Not that no one LIKES Alan Alda. mstank...correct me if I'm wrong.

  • yeah i believe that mstank77 is trying to say hes awesome but idk if thats true i sure hope so or i might i have to kill the sinlge soul that doesnt like alan alda lol kidding XD

  • Mash is one of my favorite shows. Besides it being very funny with humor and pranks, it also is a source of encouragement for folks like myself who have or are going through life challenges. The characters portrayed are in one of life's situations which is also very challenging and watching how each person copes is a source of encouragement to those who what the shows. It always helps to know though different, you're not alone and you can overcome while surviving. Thanks Mash!
