To all you people who say that the British girl singing is weird: It only seems weird because you're NOT used to seeing western English musicals and you ARE used to seeing Indian musicals. To a westerner, the Indian parts would seem stranger than the classical Western music in this song.

I think the point of having the young Englishwoman sing is to have two different style of "musical" in the song. Her part of the song has a very peculiar, very 1950s feel to it.

I think Rahman is showing that he can compose in both ways - and is gently poking fun at Western musicals.

Far from ruining the song, I think it's kind of cute!

@Auksti The white girl is no more full of herself than Gauri. In fact she decided to let Bhuvan go even though she gave so much to them helping them win her own people. Gauri was still always jealous and not thankful to her. If you look beyond the superficiality of her race, the "white girl" gave the most and received the least in the film- truly a selfless and honourable woman. She deserves the most praise.

I guess our translators haven't found the exact words yet in English so they use whatever comes close, whether it's in Scottish or French, etc. "Chori" means young girl/woman and "Chore" means young boy/man...as close to lassie and laddie as possible.
