IMO, CZ is under-appreciated, less well known than Sig or Glock, but can hold its own against anything out there. I have the Tactical and Compact (CCW) and though they are not my most expensive weapons, they are my best and my favorites.
@TheTheratfarmer the vast majority of pistol confrontations are engaged at 7 yards or less. BTW the max effective range of this type of handgun IS 50yds.
I ordered one and your video helps make up my mind. Seems like the best non polymer compact handgun in that price range. I have two Sigs but I think the P01 will perform as well at a much lower cost.
Awesome Vid ! What holster are you using with it ?
I have a CZ-75 DB that I love and have never had a misfire or fail to eject.
@mrlplrofstngth I suspect the "Stagey trigger" is the difference between double action and single action. After the first round (Dbl mode) the followup shots have a very short and light trigger (SA mode)
Great piece. While I must say that the slide rail is very narrow and the release is extremely stiff. Funny when my shooting intructor tried to rack the slide, he said.."damn man, you need to grease those rails" Even he was surprized how stiff it was. In a live-fire situation, you'd be DOA..if you are not used to this tricky slide. Need plenty of practice.
I think a better word to use is "stagey" for the trigger pull/feel on new CZs. I have owned the P-01 for about 6 mos now, and it took about a thousand rounds for the trigger to really start to smooth out, not including a lot of dry firing in between shooting. I eventually did my own trigger job which really helped but was almost not worth the hassel. Still, I have never had any malfunctions of any kind, and truly love shooting it. Excellent gun, one of my favorites. Great vid, btw.

@gonando88 My wife likes this size gun, she does not like the "mouse" guns most people try to pawn off on women, the full size pistols are a bit much for handbag and purse carry, and definitely not for hip carry(on a woman), the only thing I would advise is giving your wife plenty of opportunity to practice the slide operation, the grip area is long but narrow, and requires a sure grip, otherwise pain and dissatisfaction will be the result. I would go for the P-01 for your wife though.
Great vid. Liked closeups. Seriously considering p-01 or the sp-01 for an hd gun. Read that sp-01 weighs almost 56oz fully loaded(10rnds in ca) with tact light/laser. Would you think it's unwieldy for my wife who doesn't have very strong shoulder/upper body strength. Especially if she had to engage multiple targets or even shoot one handed? The p-01 is only an inch shorter but a pound lighter. I would imagine sp-01 even more muzzle heavy with tac light. Is there a big difference in recoil? Thnx
@FuriousPixel although I never have had one, after much research on the CZ's, I would swing toward the shadow....but tactical is cool..It all comes down to your use for the gun, or your comfort with carry options. I, for instance, usually carry full size, or full size frames with compact slide and barrel length, then every so often I snatch out my wife's 380 sig for deep concealment carry, situation dictates.
There is only 1 part of the CZ that I don't like...It's the slide stop lever...It wears out at the edges where it contacts the slide. The Glock seems better only at that area.
Thought i would chime in here. If you look at all the reviews it seems that any pistol from any manufacturer can be a lemon. The torture tests always look good but consider that it's a torture test with that particular gun only. On any given day another pistol from the same manufacturer can have problems. The only test that really matters is how "your" gun works after so many rounds to then be considered reliable. From a looks standpoint, the CZ line is very appealing.
I know the glock is a VERY VERY good gun, but I choose my CZ due to I see it much prettier than a glock. And being realistic why I need a gun that shoots 1000rounds after being bury 2 years, or shoot 1000 rounds without cleaning??? I didn´t buy it for bury it!!!! I get enough from a gun that shoots 30 rounds in a row without a problem!! And CZ do that without any problem with NATO specs 7 jam in 15000 rounds... i would buy a glock... but I prefered to bought first my CZ, I love it. Bye!!

At the range today a guy let me shoot his CZSP01 Shadow; I was stunned at how accurate it was. I was doing a decent job with my Glock 19 but that Shadow was a step up, however it was from CZ Custom and it costs $1200.00. I'm not sure how similar/different the Shadow and the P-01 are but if the P-01 is half as good you have a fine pistol.
whats with all the glock vs CZ debates? Totally different but awesome guns. You people gotta get your head out of your ass and stop being so closed minded.
@fusionstar916 I don't know..I just like to argue...totally different operating systems, but reliability, I say they are equal..that's my argument. thanks
@fusionstar916 yeah imean you really shouldnt be comparing the glock with the CZ they are pretty differnt I mean both are great reliable guns(both combat tested) but i would still go with the glock for everyday carry
@arkangel8419 I believe that in the vid I made reference that this cz could "stand next to the glock anyday", so that was taken as "comparison", the point..Glocks are known for reliability, this gun is just as good. semper fi
@88arau: A Glock or a CZ? Not a CZ enthusiast and I doubt the gun would perform under those conditions. Whatever works for ya though. BUT A GLOCK! Thats a different story, check this out (could only find the 500rd video, the 1000 rd is out there somewhere):
@88arau yeah I've seen the glock vids, also the SIG's, H&K, Springfield XD's, but O have not looked for a CZ vid, this particular model was put through one of those torture tests to be nato certified, they are that good, the only thing I doubt about it is the fact it has an external hammer that could be fouled by debris, but easily cleared, same could be said of the beretta m9 (92F). I remember the original Glock test back in the 90's, that's why I got one.
@88arau you should look up the "beyond" NATO tests that the Czech police required the p-01 to go through. 5' drop test cocked safety off 54 times without accidental firing; 10 foot drop test 5 times cocked without firing; must fire at -36 degrees F and 126 degrees F; must fire packed with mud; and must have only 20 failures of any kind out of 20,000 rounds. That's pretty hard to beat.
@88arau i fed mine to a werewolves who threw it back up off the side of a mountain and it sat there for a month before some hiker found it buried it in his backyard for some more time, found me who had placed an apb on it..shipped it to me burried in a crate of mud and snakes,i finally got it and placed it in the bottom of our local port of potty near a new
subdivision being built and after a month of all sorts of rocket propelled items landing on it,i washed it off with rusty water and packed the magazine with poorly made reloads..all the wrong caliber and took it to the local range,it fired flawlessly!!!
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but it is VERY damaging to your gun to repeatedly "drop the slide" without feeding a round. Just an FYI. I know it looks and sounds cool, but you should lower the slide with both hands unless you are feeding a round into the chamber. Other than that, great video!
@Vanguard45 what your referring to is true of your high end 1911's and like guns, that have very tight tolerances and precision tuned parts, this and other stock military weapons are designed to operate in such fashion, if they where that delicate they would not be worthy of military or combat use, thanks for the comment.
Finally found a local distributor that carries these compact cz's.After looking for about 2 years. The controls seem a bit stiff. They wont take the damn trigger lock off .
well I have never had any of those, but I do believe the phantom is the next generation of that series, but not yet NATO tested, I swear by the SP-01. I think the phantom is the newest polymer version.
I owned the 3 of these and to be honest the P01 was by far my least favorite. Great grip, accurate, light enough to carry but did not find it enjoyable to shoot at all. I will take a standard CZ75B, or even better a SP01over the P01 any day. Actually I would take the SP-01 over ANY other 9mm on the market... but I would much rather have a XD9sc or M&P9c than a P01!
How does this gun stack up with the Glock 19 as far as accuracy, reliability and durability? And how does it stack up as far as the price of replacement parts?
well, I say it will stand side by side with the glock, this particular model is nato certified, and to get that there is an extremely harsh torture test. the cz 75 p-01 past. and having carried and used this gun, it's tops. parts, if you actually need any, not that hard to get, another advantage to the nato cert., it is also interchangeable with others of the same model. oh by the way, the grip, glock vs cz, cz wins, nice grip.
Based on all of the great things that I was hearing I bought the same gun about 6 months ago. I have to say it is everything that I heard and more. This gun is used for home defense by myself and my wife (that is a serious endorsement).
the holster I was using is an uncle mikes "pancake" style, modified as an in the waistband holster, the finish on the cz is very durable and does not wear easy. the holster had no real effect on the gun. btw that is one hefty price tag!
Firearms in this country are ridiculous expensive! You'll pay a $1000 for CZ P01, $1250 for a Glock, $1550 for a Sig 229 or 226 and even $ 2000 for a HK USP Compact.
You guys should try to be an active handgun competitor here in Sweden. Then you would REALLY know what its like paying inhuman amounts for your guns and ammo.
My most expensive "standard" hangun is a H&K USP Match .40S&W for which I paid 16995 SEK, or slightly over $2400. Also have a CZ 75B 9mm. that was retail price 15700 SEK, or almost $2250.
And about getting firearms such as handguns back here; getting the money is the "easy" part.
yall need a few entrepeneurs to get em in the u.s., bring em to costa rica, and sell em for profit over u.s. price thatd still be lower than your market price. win-win all around. ;)
well i liked the video, the P01 right now is leading candidate for conceal carry, but i must ask, what was your impression on the feel, length, and weight of the DA and SA trigger?
well the trigger is awesome in double and single action, light weight and smooth; the double is easy enough to not cause undue pulling of the muzzle, yet heavy enough not to be "dangerous" to negligent discharge. the gun itself is very light for a CZ, having an alloy frame, and the lenght is good for IWB or out side wear, clears the holster well, fairly thin profile, like the 1911, so it will snug up to the body well. thanks, hope that helps.
Hello smith - it's been quite a while. I purchased the same gun only mine is the long version. So, what would be the difference between yours and mine besides length. I think it's a bit heavy for me. I'm still trying to break it in. With the slide rail configuration I think it will take some time and a lot of rounds for this to happen. I'm working on it sir. Take Care. Nice vid and great shooting. Sincerely, JAMES.
the standard cz-75sp01, is heavier due to it has a steel frame, while the 75-p01 has a alloy frame(aluminum and titanium primarily) so it is lighter. the thinner slide does take some getting used to especially if you have large hands. but as far as reliability, the cz's are 2nd to none.
@smithjacusmc Hello smith - just an update. Stated on other videos the CZ SP 01, the model I have, has a very gritty trigger. I was also told this grittiness would "smooth out" over time & rounds. Well after 1200 rounds, it still is gritty. Does your CZ have a gritty trigger?, if so did it improve over time & rounds fired?? About how many rounds do you have thru your CZ now? I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks. Sincerely, JAMES.
@buzzclark never had a gritty trigger, not sure what you mean by gritty, I have had extremely dirty guns have a gritty feel to them. maybe you have some build up in the trigger mechanism. try brake cleaner in there, then light oil.
@smithjacusmc A "gritty" trigger usually refers to a long trigger pull together with sort of a grinding (NON SMOOTH) feel to it. It is very distracting & makes it hard to hit bulls eye. Usually doing a trigger job/action job by taking an "Arkansas" stone & making all surfaces SMOOTH that come into contact with each other. It refers to target (bulls eye) shooting rather than the faster tactical, or combat shooting. Hope this helps. Sincerely, JAMES.
nice weapon, i love my p-01. they do make 14 round mags for it though, must of sold you the Cali model.stocks sights are ok but invest in some trudot or meprolight sights, and youl be set! Cz makes a wonderful line of guns. my p-01 is my daily carry now
I don't know if I can agree with the glock comment but I'm not an expert... however I do like how the CZ wont have fire hot shells flying into my shirt pocket.
I have one and love it.
Sold my plastic G17 and bought this piece and love it.
Nice ergonomics fit and feel and reliable.

Firearms in this country are ridiculous expensive! You'll pay a $1000 for CZ P01, $1250 for a Glock, $1550 for a Sig 229 or 226 and even $ 2000 for a HK USP Compact.
Sigfofosauer 2 years ago
that is crazy! you probably don't get paid better for your work either.

It depends... If you have a good job it should be a problem!
I have to seriously "save money" for a couple of months to buy one of those.
In general, we have lots of beers (also foreigners), lot of nature and really really HOT GIRLS almost everywhere. So... is a cool country to live in.
Great video man, keep them coming!!

And about getting firearms such as handguns back here; getting the money is the "easy" part.

yall need a few entrepeneurs to get em in the u.s., bring em to costa rica, and sell em for profit over u.s. price thatd still be lower than your market price. win-win all around. ;)

well i liked the video, the P01 right now is leading candidate for conceal carry, but i must ask, what was your impression on the feel, length, and weight of the DA and SA trigger?
megadeth22885 2 years ago
well the trigger is awesome in double and single action, light weight and smooth; the double is easy enough to not cause undue pulling of the muzzle, yet heavy enough not to be "dangerous" to negligent discharge. the gun itself is very light for a CZ, having an alloy frame, and the lenght is good for IWB or out side wear, clears the holster well, fairly thin profile, like the 1911, so it will snug up to the body well. thanks, hope that helps.

yeah, im going to pick one of these up once my CCW permit finishes being processed (new york state)

Thanks. Sincerely, JAMES.
buzzclark 1 year ago
@buzzclark never had a gritty trigger, not sure what you mean by gritty, I have had extremely dirty guns have a gritty feel to them. maybe you have some build up in the trigger mechanism. try brake cleaner in there, then light oil.
smithjacusmc 1 year ago

Cool video! When you want to see a firing video you always expect to see the gun clearly and close to the camera... and you made it

CZ's are severely underrated top notch handguns. I love my 75B but would love a P01.

I don't know if I can agree with the glock comment but I'm not an expert... however I do like how the CZ wont have fire hot shells flying into my shirt pocket.
