Good thing she switched to pole vault. If she were a gymnast she would have retired after Sydney 2000 at the ripe old age of 18. At least now I get to see her compete more. Because I just checked the results for that meet which was held in Olso on July 3rd and the official results shows that she won ahead of the Pole (no pun intended) Monica Pyrek (joint silver medalist in Berlin with American Chelsea Johnson) and compatriot and former WC Svetlana Feofanova. Was there another meet in Olso earlier this year? (Indoors perhaps?) Please educate me. I am anxiously awaiting your reply.

March you say ? Then i guess it must have been indoors because winter would be just about coming to an end.

If it were the golden league she would not have won a share in the $1000, 000 jackpot this year because in order to win the jackpot (or a share in it) an athlete must win all six golden league meets, which she did. It must have been a smaller (less prestigious) competition.

She had to share the top prize with the 400 m runner Sanya Richards of the USA and Ethiopian 5000 m runner Kenenisa Bekele. I think Yelena must have gotten a slightly bigger share of the prize because of her WR in Zurich. If I'm not mistaken I think it's the 3rd time Richards had won the GL(previous wins 2006 and 2007). It was Bekele's 2nd win (after 2006). It was also Yelena's 2nd win (after 2007). Hopefully she'll also get the diamonds this year (or a share in it).
