Great story. Mine is very similar, just I'm Slav, so Slavic native believe is my religion. I am wearing "axe of Perun", pedant of our thunder god :D Also we view our gods as our ancestors. Glory to gods and goddess ! Slava !
Praise be to Odin and the Aesir. He who follows the Nine Noble has a place among the brave. Denounce the alien religions and follow the gods of old. Bless the sons of wood and wave. Embrace your heathen heritage, embrace the heathen hammer!
I began a search for a new religion after my father died earlier this year. I became very angry with the intolerance and "holier-than-thou" attitudes of the Abrahamic religions (Islam - Christianity - Judaism) so I left.
I recently found Asatru and although I am still learning many of the basic facts and stories, I like to consider myself an Asatruar.
Wassail! (A big thing I'm having is pronunciation because I've heard the same words pronounced several different ways. I think it's "vass-hail")
@webbster5296 No, it's 'woss-ail', just the way it's spelt. Google 'Temple of our Heathen Gods' and 'Cauldron Born', and you'll find lots of info. May the Gods be with you!
The Lutherans on my mothers side and all the Lutherans I've ever known have been very tolerant of my beliefs. When The Forn Sidr org in Denmark petitioned for equal status with the state church there, the head of the Lutheran Church there supports it since radical Islam is so bad over there the Christians would rather see people be in Asatru than be Muslims if they aren't gonna be Christians.
@Damitarosie thank you for explaining, many people are ignorant of the meaning or structure behind it. I was born into christianity and changed also. my father was danish (rough ground? haha) and was a committed vikingur reenactor and i used to go when was small..got an interest. this belief keeps me strong, keeps me safe and works. better than being afraid
wicca is eclectic saxon neopaganism its very popular in the states and asatruar dont normaly get along with them but we also tend to be more militaristic than the european heathens
anglosized versions of what you call them some people also add the saxon or german twist to them. we probably pronounce them wrong but this is the usual spelling
Hail Lif! I loved your video! I am an American Heathen of Irish, German, and Scottish ancestry! It is nice to get the perspective from those who are still in the Old Word/Europe where the roots of our Germanic faith come from! Keep it up! Wassail! Wodan Heil! Dan

@Oswulf1 I've heard it lots of ways. I like the "v" one because we're wayyyy more German than any other Germanic tribe/group.
I've picked up several books and have since learned much about the path since that last post. Thanks for the info, though! Wassail

i see this alot, people say the word "path"
the way alot of "truars" use it, is purely a modern thing.
the ancestors did not think of their religion as a path.
