This is my new account,I wanna inform you that I released them in a river,an realized that a fish species in danger lived there, andd I laughed, hahahahaha!Fuck you!
next time i clean the tank out im thinking about taking my rocks out and putting just sand in the tank with other props like plants and an open log to hide under
I was thinking of gettin a male softie is a 90 gallon enough? If so, how high would the water level be? Could I keep more than one in the 90? Thnx and awesome vid.
@MyTurtlesAreAwesome1 yes they will eat it and die, but these soft-shell turtle likes the sand cause they bury their selves in it and in fact its the their original habitat, but if you have other kinds of turtles w/ it together in 1 tank, you should put pebbles or something and not sand.
this thing looks exactly like mine in my turtle tank video XD i might make a video just bout the turtles feel free to check my 1 and only video out LOL
i have 2 baby soft shell turtles 1 med soft turtle, 1 small snapper 1 red ear slider 3 map turtles in mt 55gal tank , thinking i need a bigger tank now.
i have the same turtle..its spends all its time buried in the rocks, but some people say that i should put sand in the tank instead of rocks?....why?..
Most soft shells are very aggressive, in my experience. I have a large unidentified one. They claim he is from New Zealand, but who knows. He looks a lot like an American Spiny Softshell.
@Cr4z3dk33 put ur thumb under him and your pointer finger on the top middle of his shell. use light pressure and he cant reach you. mine tried to bite a lot cuz i caught him in a lake but that was3 weeks ago so after awhile of holding him he wont do it anymore
Avyrus666 is right and wrong. You cannot catch a wild turtle like this and keep it, but if you bought it from a store it's okay. Never ever release a captive turtle into the wild because it will infect the non captive turtles and they will die. DNR will fine you if you release a captive turtle.
You cant keep these, they're endangered in most places, and the DNR can issue a huge fine if they catch you. Another thing to EcBuddy123 you heard right and wrong at the same time, its mostly when they are young, because when they mature their shell darkens and hardens just a tad bit. This is really laid back for a Soft Shell. How long have you had it? It looks ilke a last-year's baby.
they need sand as substrate cause rocks can scratch their shell or so ive read and stuff, plus they like to cover themselves in sand might want to look into it
i went to florida for spring break and theres a pond in between the condos and these softshelled turtles are everywere. i also caught a baby snapper and a florida red bellied cooter. :)
- You should use sand not pebbles as soft shells are very shy and spend most there time buried
- The waters too deep, The turtle should be able to stick it's neck out of the water and breath whilst lay on the bottom and not having to swim to the surface.
PLEASE DO SOME RESEARCH INTO HOW TO LOOK AFTER THEM CORRECTLY!!!!!
they do have a dock at least though. instead of being a dick though maybe you should try to messege them and give them a website or a book that can help
Your wrong ... the water level is totally fine i would even get it higher! they are very good swimmers and can breathe under water ! everything else you said is true but u should research correctly! this turtles live in deep seas where they catch fish ! also they hibernate in at least 1 meter deep water ! (just search on wikipedia !) pet turtles should be kept like they live in the wild !
your a fucking idiot dude i saw a Documentary about these Turtles they live in big lakes! some softshell turtles can breathe under water like fish ! your all fucking retarded turtles live the same in nature as in a tank! julian3366 yturtles dont like to be handled
is a fact that turtles live long in captivity then in the wild if looked after, in captivity there are no predators and if the get sick the can be givin the right medications. These turtles do need a large tank min 75g for a male and min 400g for a female
not all softshells are found in asia. some are found in north america and are common like the spiny softshell, the smooth, or the florida softshell. but ther r some rare asian ones. . .
Oh nice, but I recommend sand than pebbles, calcium sand, because in the wild they do feed the debree of the bottom of the lakes and such. They could swallow a pebble. And you don't want that. So just use calcium sand.
Really?! Geez I gotta feed it something else once in a while. Oh yeah. How can you tell it's gender? I kept him for 1 year and i still dont know if it is boy or girl.
i dont know its hard youll have to ask someone that knows about reptiles. and yh because its like you eating one type of food all your life and not very nutritional
I WAs confused what everyone told me.. SO all i did was take a part of what they said and figured it out.. I caught a baby snapper.. Common but didnt know anythin :( But then i noticed the flat shell on the bottom so that = female... UNFLAT = MALE
Erm, I do know that they need sand not gravel - my own soft shell has sand.I said gravel because that is what this person has.
Yes they are strong swimmers but IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT THEM you would know that they spend 90% of their time buried in sand in very shallow water, enabling them to breathe easily and often. Do your research.
lolmogely-soft shells turtles do not need shallow water they are a very strong swimming and active turtle, If you knew anthing you would have commented that it should be sand not graval.
The water level for these turtles must be low enough so that the turtle can reach his head out of the water whilst buried in the stones at the bottom.
Nice setup! well done thats really nice. Have you seen Terp the turtle? Some people the way they look after them makes me feel sad. Glad some people have a concience!

@MsCHINADOLL1990 It makes it easier for them to burrow. And it's reminiscent of their natural river bottoms.
firedogg515 1 year ago
@MsCHINADOLL1990 because if u add sand there tank is more natural and sand makes it easier to burrow

@MsCHINADOLL1990 Never use gravel or rocks, anything sharp as it can damage their shell very easily.

A sugestion. Consider lowering the water level so the turtles can stick their necks up to breathe without swimming. This is what they do in the wild.

- The tanks far too small
- You should use sand not pebbles as soft shells are very shy and spend most there time buried
