Even a 2010 BMW 325i would nosedive off of that ramp when the rear suspension are at max load, and suddenly release when the front wheels are airborne. Ramp angle and length is more important than weight distribution for a level jump. Secondly, weight can be added to balance any car. It's not going to hurt performance when all that's expected is a crowd pleasing jump.

My guess is that this was exactly the desired landing, considering if the car lands flat with no padding, the driver gets broken vertabrae.
This was the Covington jump on June 28, 2003. I was there and got to see this car up close. Trust me, this Charger was beyond saving. This was not an original show car, it was a rusted out shell with a warped frame that was put back together with bondo and held together with wires or whatever they could find. Ergo, is the saying every savvy classic car collector asks: "Does the car have any dents or got into any fender-benders there?" Here's some trivia for you PukesFest lovers: I just received word that on this jump there is a 74 Monaco under it. Well that car was the EXACT car Daisy steals from Rosco and the EXACT one in the opening credits! Now wouldn't that be better used in a real convention for years and years of fans instead of this humping hillbilly event? It is a waste to damage ANY of these cars. Go jump a Prius or Honda instead.
That was the real "Dukes" TV stunt people doing this. They didn't have a good run-up to the ramp and it nosedived mostly because it was bouncing as it took off.
As for the car -- get over it.
It already had a bent unibody from a previous wreck, had no interior at all, 5 gallons of bondo went onto the body, the hood had a scoop hole patched, the grill was held together with zip ties, and the 440 motor was later pulled out and used again.
Use the new dodge chargers out today instead of these classics. As far as weight in the trunk. Have Rosie O donnel or roseanne bar in the trunk, that will level it off. Or make it land trunk first.
Don't get me wrong... I'm a HUGE fan of the show and the General Lee, but for fuck sake man, were there not enough Dodge Chargers distroyed during the making of the series? i think its because the car was off its center of gravity it comes bonceing around that corner so when he hit the jump the stocks pushed the car up and because it didnt have a even weight distribution it was sent forward

That was the real "Dukes" TV stunt people doing this. They didn't have a good run-up to the ramp and it nosedived mostly because it was bouncing as it took off.
As for the car -- get over it.
It already had a bent unibody from a previous wreck, had no interior at all, 5 gallons of bondo went onto the body, the hood had a scoop hole patched, the grill was held together with zip ties, and the 440 motor was later pulled out and used again.

Use the new dodge chargers out today instead of these classics. As far as weight in the trunk. Have Rosie O donnel or roseanne bar in the trunk, that will level it off. Or make it land trunk first.

i think its because the car was off its center of gravity it comes bonceing around that corner so when he hit the jump the stocks pushed the car up and because it didnt have a even weight distribution it was sent forward

if u look closly u can see after he got to the lip of the ramp he let go of the gas thats one of the reasons it crased either that or theres a rubber head behind the wheel or there were no weights to balance it out

Damn, that's a hell of a wipeout. When they did those stunts on the show, they always filled the trunk of the General Lee with weights so it didn't nosedive like that. The stunt crew I mean, not the Duke Boys. Apparently this guy didn't.

inflate,that was a very telling comment you made about filling the trunk of the car. .I reckon 99% of the jumps in the series DID make it back on 4 wheels - of course there is always a slight risk of going up the ramp too fast or miscalculating weights etc.
