  • One of the many great Tony Banks solos. A fantastic album in which the remaining members proved that Genesis could still produce excellent music with just "A Trick of the Tail."

  • @PurpleFade10 AGREED! I was having a heated 'debate'on another page about Genesis. This moron was arguing that Genesis has ALWAYS been a pop band, even with PGabriel,ha, what a fucking joke! I was trying to let them know that in the early days, they were FAR from a 'pop' band! They are the greatest band ever!

  • @mspeanut59

I was there also awesome concert Rush was awesome also that night!

  • @PurpleFade10 Great story. Thanks for sharing it.

  • The Daily Vinyl digs it.

  • sorry but the drumms part are no so difficult as many of you think is almost the same tempo that cinema show final part

  • GODD stuff (as usual) Tommygun!! You have the most rare collection of Genesis film I've ever seen, or even heard of for that matter!!! Thanks for sharing!

  • thank you!

  • @Tommygun1028 I WAS THERE! I have been looking for this forever! I was two, and my mom took me to see this! Holy shit! Thanks man! I only wish I could have seen them with Pete!

  • it was probably a tuning thing, but it was always a disappointment that Tony didn't use the Mellotron's choir setting on the last instrumental section (live); without that, the moment loses impact. I guess it was a good stage tune for Phil to act out, but for me, it's probably a lesser moment from a purely audio pov, although it allows Afterglow to sound even more magnificent on Seconds Out.. thanks to Tommygun for some intriguing footage!

  • No I love Genesis..

BUT WHY THE HELL IS PHIL ALWAYS PLAYING THE " DIFFICULT" PARTS!!!!!!!

Chester could play them instead of phil

and phil coud play the tambourine!!!

  • He plays quite often when they have the longer breaks in the songs without vocals. I do not think it is about who can and who can do the parts. And Chester usually plays along with him during those parts with the exceptions of songs like "In the Cage" where Chester gets a rest.

  • Not quite right if you take Firth of fifth for example ...

Phil plays the part with the difficult keyboard and when it comes to the guitar solo chester jumps in again

  • No arpeggiator, but the Hammond was fed into a Roland RE201 Space Echo, a tape echo device capable of 'doubling' effects. Tony's setup was pretty straightforward at the time - if you heard a Hammond it was done with the real thing and not an emulation by some hi-tech keyboard device like he does nowadays.

  • Tony managed the sound at 2:01 with a Hammond T-102 organ connected to a MXR Phase 100 and Boss CE-1 effects pedal to give the organ more of a flowing chorus. He ran an arpeggio scale to make the sound you hear. A Leslie Speaker was used up until 1975 and would have made the sound more crisp. I don't remember if the actual album featured the Leslie Speaker on this song though.

  • great performance..But Why is the second verse cut out?

  • This is pieced together from bits of 8mm footage. The whole song was not filmed.

  • I was at LA & SD 1977 shows. If memory serves, at LA a guy jumped on Phil's drum kit and started playing while Phil was singing! Security got to him and yanked him off in a minute and a half. Anybody remember that?

  • never heard of that story!!!! WOW! :)

  • It is amazing; my guess is this is fed into an echoplex or similar to make it fuller...

  • i used to listen to trick of the tail when i was smoking some weed. Would just elevate my trip. awesomeness.

Grancias "Tommy..."

  • You're not much for modesty, are you?

Thanks, though, for all you do.

  • TY , for confirming my point, if you listen closely to the Tony Bank's solo on RA&B

the tempo is slightly slower then in the concert inParis.

  • this is NOT seconds out ,positively,

it is very close ,but i was at tyhe concert in Paris while serving in the French military air force base at Villacoublay i was 20 Y/o and this was the best concert i have ever attended ( 1st date) but i know this is not the Paris version, the one they use for the secondsout album

  • right,

I positively know that this the audio is from San Francisco the very next day after the this video was filmed at the LA Forum. Why do I know? Because I'm the one who spliced it together.

  • audio is from San Francisco show which was the very next day

  • audio is from seconds out

  • no it's not, it's from San Francisco the very next day

  • I was at the London ON show of this tour in 1976, the first show Collins did after Gabriel left, amazing!! I can't wait to see the Musical Box do the show in Montreal and Ottawa!

  • Squonkness, you crack me up!-Peter

  • One if not my favorite genesis tune.........great banks keys and michaels bass is outrageous.....reo speedwagon...HAHA

  • I was at THIS VERY SHOW! Oh, what great memories. Thanks for posting it.

  • I love the 1977 tour.

  • Without a hen no egg. The Musicalbox has modern times.

  • Are you Jonathan King or something? Judging from your ego display on the video description, it sure seems like it.

  • Tony Banks is amazing.

  • Tommmmayyy! My man! This album came out my senior year and I still love it. I was lucky enough to see this tour in 77.

  • When we saw them in 77 at Vanderbilt University, we were lucky enough to walk on the stage. As a young guitarist, I couldn't believe all the pedals they had!

  • they don't make 'em like this this anymore.

  • Tommygun you do wonders with the sound of these old tracks. That's definitely your strong suit.

  • Thanks, man

  • Tommy,

How you doing??? i'm George from Brazil do you remember, i discover some material from Genesis In Concert, Wind and Wut. tour much more better that i had before, but only for hear..it's not in Vídeo...if you want i can send to you...

  • Hi George,

Thanks for writing but I'm good as far as 1977 audio goes but if you ever can get video from Brazil 1977 let me know. I heard there's some in the Archives of GloboTV? The Aquarius project i think?

  • Awesome sound..thx for sharing

  • Right, I've said before that TOTT & W&W are 2 of my favorite albums - any era. I stopped after W&W because when Steve Hackett left, the WRITING changed. Sure, a song here and there post-Hackett is fine, like any other band. But after Hackett left, the Genesis I grew to love ceased to exist.

  • I should have mentioned; this makes me wish I had bought tickets for the tour, even without Peter Gabriel. Sigh.

  • Haven't heard this version before. Thanks for sharing.

  • Good song!!!

  • Mighty Genesis is tied w/ Reo Speedwagon led by Kevin Cronin as greatest bands ever.

    thanks for great video:)

  • I do not agree. Genesis is a totally different league than REO. I like both bands but Genesis is more complex
