@Musicmania1968 goto windows update and look under the optional updates you mite see an update for your video or display. it is possible to get faulty equipment in a new pc. especially at x-mas time when electronics are mass produced.

@darknessthehedgehog3 I have found that this type of issue is tied to the usb drivers, it uses the same call up to wake your pc and sometimes the IRQ is being used by your mouse or keyboard and they get confused, try going to windows update and make sure you have the latest updates. also look under the optional updates.

After you deleted that file & rebooted, did you reboot in safe mode again or ordinary? It would have been nice for you to continue with the video showing the computer restarting without the blue screen to show the problem had been rectified.

@xlawrunes blue screen does not always list a file name but it does try to tell you a cause, going from vista to XP is a good move but you will need to make sure you have the latest drivers for XP not vista.

@GoofClownHead Sometimes the blue screen will list a file name at the top if it is a certain file causing it. it will always display a stop error code at the bottom, you can google that stop error code for more info on what is wrong. win 7 is pretty stable so it could be a bad memory module or a faulty hard drive.

Does System restore work? I Pressed F8 and noticed an extra option called Fix Windows Errors. I went on it and it gave me a bunch options to fix windows startup etc etc I went on system restore and now I'm restoring my computer. Hopefully it works

i chose safe mode but the same thing appears. windows error recovery which asked me to launch startup repair or start windows normally. so, starting windows normally won't help. startup repair couldn't even repair my computer automatically. that's what it says. so, i restart my computer and press F8. instead of choosing safe mode, i select 'disable automatic restart on system failure' because i saw a comment from microsoft support at answers(dot)microsoft(dot)com. i experienced blue screen :(

@ErikaCena14 Well it depends on the stop error code you get and what file may be mentioned in your blue screen, you will need that info to further investigate. could be bad memory or hard drive.
