You can train a dog to protect you simply by treating them well. My dog is a 50lb Catahoula he is about a year old now and he is used to guns, and knows a good bit of verbal commands and hand gestures, since he is a natural cattle dog it wasn't hard to train him to go after an attacker.
However I don't train him to hurt anyone I train him to grab onto their pants which gives me the upper hand if my wife and I are attacked.

You can train a dog to protect you simply by treating them well. My dog is a 50lb Catahoula he is about a year old now and he is used to guns, and knows a good bit of verbal commands and hand gestures, since he is a natural cattle dog it wasn't hard to train him to go after an attacker.
However I don't train him to hurt anyone I train him to grab onto their pants which gives me the upper hand if my wife and I are attacked.
(Catahoula dog breed is not for everyone, please wiki before hand!)

I'd rather have an Akita, Bull Mastiff, or a Doberman over a Pit. Pits don't look scary to me. They have a rep with chows and shepards for a bite problem. But other than that most are inbred pieces of shit. People who get pits because they think they're aggressive or have a locking jaw are stupid. Their jaws don't lock. They hold but don't lock.
