main problem with this movie is that it was just a blood bath. no real emotional scenes. if there was one thing that the 2004 movie did right was that while it was an action movie, you could feel the pain that castle was going through. i didnt feel that with warzone. i like both of the movies but i would have to say that even though the 2004 movie was less faithful to the comics, it was a better film.
War zone is the sleeper hit of the marvel movie universe. Ray did such a great job, Better than Thomas Jane, or at least, Stevenson's movie is MUCH better than Janes. This one is EVERYTHING that punisher should be, he killed EVERY villian in his way, as he should have, they had him FAR too heroic in the 2nd punisher. The 3rd one, War zone is the definitive Punisher movie to REAL comic fans
Stevenson is the PUNISHER! A fierce motherfucking killer. He didn't sit in his little fort drinking whiskey all the time, He was out there fuckin shit up. Stevenson is the punisher, as much as Downey Jr. is Iron Man!
yeah but that isn't the punisher he isn't just a killer he is a person with skills and this film really didn't care they just wanted cheap blood and bad lines bad acting.JAnes punisher was better because he acted like a person someone who lost his family like in welcome back frank.
I has my doubts about Stevenson. But I was completely blown away by him in the film. HE is The Punisher, NOT Jane. Stevenson is how I always imagined Frank Castle. He is brutal, not a Marriage wrecking weasel.
Thomas Jane i'm sorry to say is a pansy. Now I know maybe emotionally he might suit the part. But the pretty boy image really is not alluring as a tough guy especially when it comes to the fact that he is a cold stoic killer. You can disagree with me, but a pretty boy killing people is a total put off...
I agreed with everything you said up until you said Howard Saint was a bad villian. How the hell can you say that? The guy was responsible for the Punisher's entire family getting murdered and CREATING the Punisher. Remember dude, the good guy is only as good as the bad guy is bad.
i never said Howard Saint wasn't a bad villian, i said JOHN TRAVOLTA was a lousy choice to play him lol. I mean c'mon...John Travolta, he's too...pretty, like Thomas Jane as the punisher.... it's just too dolled up. Warzone is sooo much better because it's gritty and raw and brutal like the real punisher should be lol. Ray Stevenson IS The Punisher.
I think Jane did a good job. He has the perfect voice and build for it. While Ray Stevenson was a good choice, I still think Jane was the better man.
Howard Saint WAS a pretty boy. That was the point of his character. How would a guy like Clint Howard look playing a guy like Howard Saint? I guess Billy the Beaut was too good-looking too.
i think Stevenson re-invented The Punisher because he was darker, more brutal, grittier, and you could tell just by looking at him that he'd been kicked up and down quite a bit. He's like the Clint Eastwood of Punisher. Thomas Jane...ehh.. not good, the movie was dull, barely any action in it. Warzone was like that movie but on cocaine lol. And the gore was spectacular! He's one bad motherfucker, now that ive seen this one i love punisher. Howard Saint played by John Fuckin Travolta tho..lousy
Like I mentioned previously, Travolta was perfect for the role because Saint was meant to be a pretty boy. He's also a good actor.
The first movie was based loosely off of Welcome Back Frank and MAX. That's why there was more storyline. Punisher: Warzone was based off of the comic story Punisher: Warzone.
If it took the movies to make you love the Punisher, check out the comics. Especially Welcome Back Frank. I think you'd dig it, if you like to read.
It didn't take "movies" it just took the one movie Punisher Warzone lol. I hated the other Punisher completely because it was too dull and too prettied up. The Ray Stevenson Punisher is better. I have read a few Punisher comics, that's why I hated the other Punisher. The Jigsaw guy was a lot better as a villain anyway, and his brother Looney Bin Jim was fuckin crazy lol.
The Dolph-Punisher was so bad it isn't even worth noting. That's like saying "'Batman 89' isn't the first Batman movie, what about the Adam West one?"
That is my personal favorite. All of the War Zone issues were great stories too. You can find back issues at any comic store. Read the War Zone Series. Not to be confused with War Journal.
I never thought Thomas Jane was a great Punisher. I have over a thousand issues. I'm particularly partial to the Garth Ennis reboot. I think Stevenson has a better look and voice. I'm trusting in this to work and work well. At least it seems to take place in Central Park. They completely re-wrote the story. This War zone is closer to the real deal comic!
ya same heere bro lostt most of my comics n a fire and i just start getten back into em i picked up "up is down and black is white" and u now any other i shuld pick up
Ok Silver I agree almost completely I don't think the 2004 Punisher was a complete bust I did like the beginning when he became the Punisher but towards the end of it It lost its flair. But of course I agree with you on the unlikely choice thing like with Robert Downey Jr. as Ironman. Great job once again
Hey Robert - remember the 1989 "Punisher" with Dolph Lundgren? He couldn't grow stubble so they had to smear it on. Sooo freakin' lame! I personally didn't think much of Thomas Jane as "Punisher" either. Ray Stevens was awesome in "Rome" as Titus Pullo - the hardest bastard in the Roman Army.
hey im back to make another comment after seeing another warzone trailer, and maybe marvel is letting the movie go through lionsgate because it extends their limits, what i mean is i cant see marvel making such a violent rated R movie, they might hold back a bit, lionsgate as no issues, but anyway its just a small idea, the movie is looking incredible in my opinion
I do hope Marvel continues their good streak. Hell, I hope the good streak for ALL comic book movies continues on. Not a single superhero movie has bombed this year so far, at least from what I know. I have high hopes for Punisher Warzone. I do find it a bit weird that he started out with Spider-Man though 0_0
Personally, The Punisher is my favorite "hero". He's a bit more realistic. (at least more realistic than being bitten by a radioactive spider) He loses his family to these awful people and it has a more realistic impact on him. If you know anything about The Punisher he has expert training having served multiple tours in Vietnam, so he has the training to do what he does (to an extent) unlike Spider-man who magically gets expert agility, coordination and strength.
Oscar nominated director Lexi Alexander is extremely passionate about the source material and truly went out of her way include a vibe of "comic surrealism," so PUNISHER: WAR ZONE definitely will feel like a Marvel MAX film.
Ray Stevenson was in an independent film called Outpost and let me say if you get a chance rent it. It's very good!!! I have to say Ray Stevenson does look like the Punisher. I have to say Thomas Jane did a great job as well, but the story was a bit bland in some way. The action scenes were pretty descent. I also have to say that character Jigsaw in this new movie looks gruesome. I have to say I hope the story doesn't get lost. The visuals look great in the movie as well.
Back to the 2004 Punisher, I have to say while it did have the old school action movie touch, but it just lacked something. I think it's going to be all right. I have to say also that Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk were great. Hulk was a mess and it just lacked something. Superman Returns though I thought was better than III and IV though and it did feel like the first one as well.
The 2004 Punisher was an ok film at best, jonathan hensleigh butchered the character of frank castle. War Zone is the closest to the Punisher's true origin to date. Thomas Jane is NOT the Punisher, I believe that Ray Stevenson is (he has the look, the voice and the persona for it). Only 18 more days until the real Punishment begins!
i loved punisher 2004, @ first i was upset that this wouldnt be a direct sequel and wouldnt feature Jane, but from everything i know about the movie and seen, i know im going to love this punisher movie, and i think its amazing that we could get two completely different stories and takes on Punisher, while both being unique and great in their own light, i hope ray stevenson gets his own trilogy and im glad it reflects the comic book story more, & jigsaw will entertain people kinda like joker did
my shirt is better lol, it has the design from the 2004 movie. lol BALE IS BATMAN. jigsaw was set up in the first one, he was supposed to be saints son that got blown our the window. not independantly distriputed because this was picked up before they made "Marvel Knights" the thing im not likeing about this new film is it is looking too overly violant, i know its the punisher but still. this looks like a bad b- horror/action flick
dude im a film major, that is still part of the angles. i am talking abobut the "gore" per-say like when frank punches a guys face and the orbital bone caves in around his fist. it looks horribly fake and looks like they didnt even try
no one is GOING to care, us punisher fans want to see the REAL PUNISHER not some fake hollywood orgin crap with thomas lame. movie goers dont freakin care if its done poorly only you movie dicks and critics whine alot.

Marvel financed and filmed IRON MAN and THE INCREDIBLE HULK, Paramount distributed them.
Don't worry about Marvel Studios not making PWZ. Most of Marvel's successfull films were made by other studios as well.
What really matters and takes priority over which studio filmed or distributed the movie, is the creative team chosen to make the film.
