@Markcy1989 I'm not sure about Win Vista and Win7 but there's a way to remove from old versions (before XP), nothing useful nowadays, but possible using some IE removers. But you can still install another browser, set it as default and remove IE icons from desktop :)
I dont agree with the honesty of the test process. Also, I believe they knew it was unfair, thats why they didnt even comment 'the one on my left has a traditional (intel graphics) configuration, which is running the aero interface and the one on my right has aero disabled and is powered by nvidia ion'. Nonetheless the amd team is doing NOTHING about it. The cathrash drivers cant even convert a wmv video format by the gpu itself. Its the cpu that does the job for some reason. way2go nvidia.
while this makes the Ion look good...it makes IE9 look bad...since it doesn't seem to do anything for you on your existing hardware...you must upgrade to have it make any difference...and who knows, maybe safari or chrome would do just as well with Ion...lol
I'm viewing this page with exactly the same asus netbook with ion graphics and ie 9.0 and windows 7, I can say that HD 720p movies run very smoothly, 1080p doesn't run smooth at all.
That's bull shit since the address bar is taking the place of 4 tabs !!! That sucks man !!! I am always needing more space for my precious tabs, I am so fucking furious, seems that microsoft team is not using its brain... oh my god... *sigh*
So your browser requires hardware acceleration to move a few 2D sprites around the screen? Wow that must suck. I had no problem doing something about as complex on a 486 CPU. And no support for Webgl to do some real graphics? And not cross platform? Relies upon Directx? Why does chrome render this on the cpu just fine but IE9 in virtualbox doing CPU rendering gets about 1 FPS? Fail.
U stupid fucks.. That is because IE9 uses 3D acceleration and Windows automatically sets the windows look to "Basic" if there is a 3D app running in the foreground.
Well i hate microsoft fuck them i dont have genuine windows 7 anymore its bullshit i send in my laptop to get fixed the screen would flash it didi it on its own and i get my laptop back the windows 7 sticker is gone on the bottom of the laptop and its no longer geniuine so i look up my serial code on my laptop but its invalid i think microsofts rich ass should give me a new one
thats a unfair test you should test two computers/latops that are identicly apart from the graphocs card. Also have the same amount and type of data stored/installed also both should have aero affects enabled or disabled
It would be a awesome test if they handicapped the ion and the ion was faster, but they lightened the ion by tunning Aero on the ion off only and that looks they're just cheating.
It's sloppy to not have both netbooks configured exactly the same with the glaring lack of aero on one of them. However, I don't believe it would have had that much of an impact anyway.
1st Aero turned off on the ION netbook, turned on on the older netbook. Big FAIL.
2nd The technology of the asteroid graphics are "intense", man. I won't be able to use my browser at THAT potential? I doubt it.
I get that pre-rendered logos spinning about need incredible graphic acceleration(?) but I'm quite sure that there will be a free browser that will be able to compute this kind of data on older machines.

why you didnt macke compare to asus ul30vt thi is netbook maybe the preformance is low compare to asus ul30vt and beter batery life iss beter up to 12 hours but the ion wow what a load
ION is a pretty sweet platform. I wish it was out when I bought my Eee PC 1000HE. I saw the specs of the Eee PC 1201 on netbooks4,us - it's quite an impressive netbook, but battery life is horrible in comparison to what I have. Oh well, I guess everything has its trade-offs.
A good way to speed up your PC is to not use Internet Explorer 9 in the first place.
omg it can run arcade games... you mean to tell me it needs the might of the ION graphics accelerator just to render a handful of polygons in 2D? Maybe if you coded it properly in the first place it would be fast on both computers. I'm just saying man, classic Microsoft scam: release a new piece of software that forces you to upgrade your hardware as well.
@artifactingreality So you are assuming the underlying API (Direct2D) isn't coded very well? It's more likely it went into software fallback mode because the GPU was simply too old.
windows classic theme vs windows 7 theme? O.o thats not fair :/
and yes, aero is activated ^- ^ just put hte video in HD and look carefully, i can see perfectly that its activated. maybe arent using all features like transparency, etc, but to compare two things, they need to be in the same conditions =_=U
@anonymous345 anyways, if is windows 7 basic theme, its get poor performance. i just said, to get a good test, they need to be in the same conditions. same ram, sam cpu or at closet at possible and same programs running, theme, etc. if not, i just see a bad comparison
but it's not a comparison. It's just a demonstration of what you can do with ION that you're missing out on with Intel integrated graphics, hence the title "demo"
@kitsune0video Aero is not enabled on the other netbook with the windows 7 theme. You need to look closer. Thats just the standard theme with aero disabled, the taskbar is not transparents at all. And it seems with newer oses the classic themes seem to make you take a preformance hit vs speeding it up. I have windows 7 home premium x64 on my core 2 duo e8500 machines @4ghz and the classic theme is slower. The regular them with aero seems to be faster which makes no sense, chris pirillo agrees

@benko1992 U stupid fucks.. That is because IE9 uses 3D acceleration and Windows automatically sets the windows look to "Basic" if there is a 3D app running in the foreground.
Guys, Aero is NOT activated in any of both netbooks. The only thing that changes is the theme, but both themes are not Aero ones.
You can see it easily just by looking at the minimize, maximize and close buttons in the left notebook; the styles of those buttons are from a non-Aero theme.
@FreakOfMeds If you using a 8800 GT then it will support IE 9 GPU acceleration b/c the card is Direct X10 assuming you have Vista/7 (No XP support for IE 9 or Direct X 10). Also Ion is a prebuilt and integrated platform that consists of a Geforce 9400 M coupled with a Atom processor so your 8800 GT cannot support Ion or the other way around.
Yea right lol kill flash that's like me saying CG is going to kill cartoons Flash it's own type of media and becoming the web standard if you don't think soo then uninstall it and go to favorite website awards or YouTube or even try to look at a decent porn website this shit is just a quick gimmick divised by Microsoft not allot of developers need it to bring rich experiences if google maps was flash it'd be even smoother I know im a bit of a flash webdesigner
About time this happened. For years we've been using GPUs solely for gaming. The difference is huge, and this + HTML5 will hopefully kill Flash for good. It's the web 2.0 cancer...
It wouldn't make a difference if Aero was on or not. People seem to forget how WDDM drivers work with DWM and graphically intensive applications running at the same time.
The biggest reason GPU-powered HTML5 video will be great is that it will spell the end of Adobe Flash. I will however be using Firefox or Chromium (NOT Chrome), thankyouverymuch.
Why couldn't you guys test on both same laptops with both aero on? Microsoft is always showing bogus comparisons like the firefox vs microsoft security one.
this is ridiculous. comparing a newer graphic card to an older one. Few more months, Nvida comes out with a new graphic card and put that against the ion. I bet it would run faster and smoother than ion. Technology changes everyday! Pssh!
Firefox is better than Chrome in terms of features and custom-ability.
The 3.7 alpha builds obliterates Chrome in many areas due to D2D acceleration. The spinning logo test (in the video) gives 14 times better performance in Firefox than in Chrome.
IE9 seems 42 times faster at the spinning logo test, but benchmarks show that it is still slower than Firefox and Chrome.
Sorry for double post, I thought the first one didn't get through and so I wrote a totally different post with the the same general ideas. The new way that Youtube is organizing its comment section is throwing me off.
If IE gets this out early enough, I may actually contemplate switching to IE for the first time in years. Firefox is currently implementing Direct 2d and DirectWrite in the Minefield nightly build, but its is really unstable and won't be stable until June this year. However, IE ups the ante adding in JS and HTML 5 GPU acceleration. For once IE is leading the field? I wonder whats in store for Google Chrome, Firefox, and Opera this year.
Mozilla stated that they will have Direct 2D and Direct Write stable by June of this year. Its currently implemented in the Firefox/Minefield nightly builds and is unstable, but when it works, it shows promise . However, looking at this video, I think the IE team implementing GPU technology even more extensively then Mozilla with HTML 5 and JS GPU acceleration. For once the IE team is leading the pack? Are the Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera teams paying attention?
@LePePeLePub Mozilla still has a lot of work to on GPU acceleration, they need to continue to rewrite some part of the SVG code and integrate it into Cairo.
RT @davidragones@cane4real Yes higher-priced notebooks will support IE9 hardware acceleration as well (though notebooks with GPUs will have a distinct performance advantage) but we are talking about lower-priced netbooks remember. ION netbooks will deliver a clearly better experience as both IE (and other browsers) move to the GPU.
@nvidia Hi, I understand that this is about netbooks and have no doubts about ION in improving IE9's performance as well as 3d gaming performance. In my video I was just showing that hardware with integrated video can help with IE9 performance as well. You can even see that the ION performs much better with the map zooming test with texture detail than a more expensive notebook with integrated graphics alone.
@cane4real I forgot too add that I understand that ION helps make a big difference when paired with the 'weak' atom processor netbooks. But the netbook I showed was using a celeron....not all netbooks use atom cpu's....looks over at IRON84 ;)
@cane4real Yes higher-priced notebooks will support IE9 hardware acceleration as well (though notebooks with GPUs will have a distinct performance advantage) but we are talking about lower-priced netbooks remember. ION netbooks will deliver a clearly better experience as both IE (and other browsers) move to the GPU.
@kizkoool You can play it on the current versions of most other browsers too, but it is only fun on browsers with GPU-acceleration and good JS engines.
at the start when you scrolled down to the zoom in/out test, when the image is still static and it stuttered, im using a 945 right now and ive never seen it do that on a page. hell i just watched your 720p youtube video and it didnt sweat.
i use an 8800GT which i love as well but for god sake nvidia dont show us demo's where you cripple the compitions hardware/
dont get me wrong, i think ion is great and i DO intend to get an ION2 netbook, but dont push BS like this in our faces. If the one on the left is a netbook then the worst gpu it could possibly be running is an Intel GMA 945 even the GMA945 with intels drivers doesnt stutter web pages in IE when you scroll up and down.
First thing I noticed was the fact the computers are not comparable at all. They should be using the same hardware. Lacking that, they should at least be using the same operating system and settings. The one on the right isn't even running Windows 7. Useless demo.
Wow what a fucking joke this comparison is! The fucking visual effects are off one the computer on the right and the "traditional" netbook on the left has all of it on and clearly has loads of shit running on the taskbar(it's hidden with the arrow thing). Is NVIDIA so pathetic as to cheat on the demo? Fucking stupid as shit
Hi all. This is David Ragones from NVIDIA. Some have noted that the Asus was not running with full Aero on. Remember that the standard Toshiba netbook was running Win 7 Starter also with Aero off. Key point is with an ION GPU, specific HTML5, JavaScript, and Direct2D calls are offloaded to GPU resulting in a MUCH better experience (as you can see) - Aero or no Aero.
who uses IE9?

@benko1992 U stupid fucks.. That is because IE9 uses 3D acceleration and Windows automatically sets the windows look to "Basic" if there is a 3D app running in the foreground.
Crophixx 1 year ago 2
@benko1992 probably they did that to achieve better results or they had few ram available to run the tests.

Aero isnt turned on for the ION Netbook :( Marketing at it's best
jetplane48 1 year ago
Guys, Aero is NOT activated in any of both netbooks. The only thing that changes is the theme, but both themes are not Aero ones.
You can see it easily just by looking at the minimize, maximize and close buttons in the left notebook; the styles of those buttons are from a non-Aero theme.

Will ION support older graphics cards like the 8800GT?
FreakOfMeds 1 year ago

@GoodDay2YouSir Learn about SVG, Microsoft is the last one to hop on the train, it's about time they started to embrace it.
4K4K1K0 1 year ago
About time this happened. For years we've been using GPUs solely for gaming. The difference is huge, and this + HTML5 will hopefully kill Flash for good. It's the web 2.0 cancer...
Retrovibes 1 year ago
It wouldn't make a difference if Aero was on or not. People seem to forget how WDDM drivers work with DWM and graphically intensive applications running at the same time.
sillysprat 1 year ago 2
The biggest reason GPU-powered HTML5 video will be great is that it will spell the end of Adobe Flash. I will however be using Firefox or Chromium (NOT Chrome), thankyouverymuch.
AuH2O 1 year ago 2
Why couldn't you guys test on both same laptops with both aero on? Microsoft is always showing bogus comparisons like the firefox vs microsoft security one.

this is ridiculous. comparing a newer graphic card to an older one. Few more months, Nvida comes out with a new graphic card and put that against the ion. I bet it would run faster and smoother than ion. Technology changes everyday! Pssh!

@SturmKorps

LePePeLePub 1 year ago
Mozilla stated that they will have Direct 2D and Direct Write stable by June of this year. Its currently implemented in the Firefox/Minefield nightly builds and is unstable, but when it works, it shows promise . However, looking at this video, I think the IE team implementing GPU technology even more extensively then Mozilla with HTML 5 and JS GPU acceleration. For once the IE team is leading the pack? Are the Google Chrome, Firefox, Opera teams paying attention?
LePePeLePub 1 year ago
@LePePeLePub Mozilla still has a lot of work to on GPU acceleration, they need to continue to rewrite some part of the SVG code and integrate it into Cairo.

for fuck sake people: these are 2 netbooks, so they both have a shitty atom processor, ok?

RT @davidragones @cane4real Yes higher-priced notebooks will support IE9 hardware acceleration as well (though notebooks with GPUs will have a distinct performance advantage) but we are talking about lower-priced netbooks remember. ION netbooks will deliver a clearly better experience as both IE (and other browsers) move to the GPU.
nvidia 1 year ago 8
@nvidia Hi, I understand that this is about netbooks and have no doubts about ION in improving IE9's performance as well as 3d gaming performance. In my video I was just showing that hardware with integrated video can help with IE9 performance as well. You can even see that the ION performs much better with the map zooming test with texture detail than a more expensive notebook with integrated graphics alone.
cane4real 1 year ago
@cane4real I forgot too add that I understand that ION helps make a big difference when paired with the 'weak' atom processor netbooks. But the netbook I showed was using a celeron....not all netbooks use atom cpu's....looks over at IRON84 ;)
cane4real 1 year ago
@nvidia would enabling gpu acceleration in IE9 result in faster battery depletion?

at the start when you scrolled down to the zoom in/out test, when the image is still static and it stuttered, im using a 945 right now and ive never seen it do that on a page. hell i just watched your 720p youtube video and it didnt sweat.
i use an 8800GT which i love as well but for god sake nvidia dont show us demo's where you cripple the compitions hardware/

dont get me wrong, i think ion is great and i DO intend to get an ION2 netbook, but dont push BS like this in our faces. If the one on the left is a netbook then the worst gpu it could possibly be running is an Intel GMA 945 even the GMA945 with intels drivers doesnt stutter web pages in IE when you scroll up and down.

Microcip83 1 year ago
Hi all. This is David Ragones from NVIDIA. Some have noted that the Asus was not running with full Aero on. Remember that the standard Toshiba netbook was running Win 7 Starter also with Aero off. Key point is with an ION GPU, specific HTML5, JavaScript, and Direct2D calls are offloaded to GPU resulting in a MUCH better experience (as you can see) - Aero or no Aero.
nvidia 1 year ago 9
@nvidia That's great and all, but do a comparison with the same settings, otherwise it's not a valid demo.
