Haven't read this book before. And no matter how much I look at every bookstore I've been, I can't ever find it. And I feel like my life is incomplete.
this book is the best book i've ever read. i've read it like four times, and i'm just now finally ordering myself a copy. everytime i read it i cry, and i honestly dontt know why. because i'm never really sad, this book has a way of lifting spirits, therefor; best book eever (:
do you ever read something, and feel as though it was written just for you? i have. in fact i just did. and im not ashamed of it. maybe im crazy, maybe I'm different. but i know for a fact... i feel infinite.
@SierraCearns22 thats like when charlie and his family were watching the final episode of M*A*S*H, and later he found out it was the most-watched tv-show-episode ever although it felt like it was only his family watching
It's so incredible that you played "the freshman" for this video. Everytime I reread the book, I always play that song in my head when sam, patrick and charlie are being infinate! Thank you, that made me smile.
I love the book, but I think if they made a movie, it would be butchered. Kinda like Harry Potter and Twilight. They are both very good series' of books but got ruined with movies.
The only movie based of a book that was close to it was "Where the Red Fern Grows".
what about the outsiders, that probably was alot like the book because the author helped out alot and was in it!
but i agree. it kind of angers me, why even make a movie based on a book if it's going to be anything like it?! if thats the deal it shouldn't have the same name!
If they made it into a movie it would probably be made by some crappy director and with whoever the hottest actors are and it would completely kill the greatness of the book.
I can't stop reading this book, let alone thinking about it. I guess I just really love this book because (even though it's just a book) I now know that I'm not the only one out there that struggles with wanting to be there, but also not wanting to be there. You know what I mean?
By the way, these are two of the best songs from the book and all of the best quotes.
ahh, i completley agree. you feel like your not the only person that feels those things, you feel like your not alone. ahh, i love this book so much. i reread it whenever im feeling off.
I read Russian literature and philosophy, poetry, nonfiction, modern works. Get a better argument and I'll try and ignore how stupid that made you sound. And I've noticed how nobody actually says what the "deep, hidden meanings" are. Maybe next you'll try the "Have you even read the book?" argument. You give me a legitimate reason for liking the book and I will counter it. That's how a discussion works.
There aren't really any meanings that you'd call "deep and hidden." The reason a lot of teens say how great and amazing this book is because they can relate to it in any of the situations it brings up and if they feel lost or any emotion that comes with growing up, they can find someone who has been through it. A story about someone who's gone through a lot, has gotten through it and is realizing life and himself a bit more and is alright at the end, would attract a teen.
That is the laziest argument you can ever make when faced with someone who doesn't share your taste in literature. "You just didn't understand it." Please. I understood it. It's not that difficult to understand, especially when I'm usually reading (and fully comprehending) much more challenging books. I actually have read The Fountainhead.
i ABSOLUTELY love this book. it just makes sense. and everytime i read it or hear a quote from it, i catch new things that are amazing. also, i love the use of the song "the freshman" with this video. it totally works
i read this 2 years ago before freshman year and i loved it im going into jr year and i want to read it again but i need another copy because as much as i loved it back when i first read it i think ill love it even more because ill be able to relate to it a lot more :-) seriously a great book
Okay, thanks for clearing that up. It's been awhile since I read this book (and I don't plan on rereading it any time soon)and I suppose it's alright as long as he makes sure to say that it's from the Fountainhead.
That makes sense, though, I suppose. I'm an English major and...I don't know...there's just so much more brilliance to be found in other works of literature...this teen lit stuff is usually too shallow for my taste.
Yeah, cause I'm totally gonna care what some stranger who has the username "Bloodytearsforever" thinks of my taste in literature...which, to be honest, is quite varied. I didn't hate this book...it was just far from the best thing I've ever read. It's not gonna change my life forever or anything melodramatic like that. I suppose I should be happy that it got some otherwise illiterates to pick up a book.
you know nothing about me,and you can't judge me and my nickname....and i read also a lot,so every book is something special, and this book has a part of my life...but you are too clever to understand it
I know I can't judge you by your nickname. Sheesh. It's just a bit cliched is all...but that's besides the point. A logical fallacy. And I do fully understand the book. I've actually gone through some of the same issues Charlie has. It just wasn't my favorite. Why do you have such a problem believing that? I don't expect you to like every book I like. People ARE different. Wow how's the for understatement of the century? :P
I don't think it's bad for someone to hear of The Smiths first from having "Asleep" being mentioned in Perks. No one has heard of everything. I think it's kind of wrong if that said teen says "I LOVE The Smiths!" when all they know is "Asleep," but if someone starts actually listening to The Smiths and not just one song because of this book, I think that's pretty cool. To me, that would be a sign of maturing a bit if they used to be listening to Jonas Brothers and now The Smiths, good for them.
I love this book

Love all the quotes on here! My favorites are 0:45 and 1:32 and of course the 'infinite' one.
As far as the ppl hating on the book are concerned here is a quote from the author from wikipedia
"A 14-year-old girl and a 17-year-boy wrote to me and said they didn't commit suicide because they read the book."
Thats beautiful. I hope one day I create something that touches people that much.
Something that saved a human life.

That "I would die for you. But I won't live for you" quote was pretty much stolen from the Fountainhead lol

the reason it's in the book is because he's talking about the Fountainhead and how he likes that quote.
