  • Nice.... Just listenin to some good tunes. I really dont care what the chick said, music is, well, music. Sounds nice.

  • IS THERE ANY FUCKING INSTRUMENT EMILY CANNOT LEARN TO PLAY? I JUST BOUGHT THE TAKING THE LONG WAY CD AND ON THE STUDIO VERSION WHEN NAT SINGS AND I WANT I NEED I SWEAR IT SOUNDS LIKE A FUCKING SITAR BEING STRUMMED MAN! UNBELIEVABLE JUST LIKE SOMETHING GEORGE HARRISON WOULD DO. HAD TO TRAIN MY EAR TO BLOCK OUT OTHER INSTRUMENTS BUT IF EMILY IS STRUMMING A SITAR I AM IN TOTAL AWE OF THIS YOUNG WOMANS TALENT. THE SITAR IS NOT EASY TO PLAY.

  • @luvtotruck According to Wikipedia (I know, not very reliable) and instruments I have seen her play, she can play banjo, mandolin, dobro, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, steel guitar, sitar, and accordion. I think she might also play a bit of fiddle. And I gotta agree with you, she is UNBELIEVABLY talented. They all are.

  • Words do not exist to express how much I love this. How much I love the way they all look so beautiful, sing so amazingly, play so phenomenally. I can't even get over it. This might be the best performance they have ever given.

  • Last I heard the girls had decided to go from Country into the catagory of music much the same as Pink which I guess is easy rock, what ever the catagory any-how you can bet yr ass their fans won't throw them to the slaughter just because one and or all of them have an oppinion aboutsomthing that they believe in strongly. PINK said it best while she is paying tax's out of her ass basically she has the right to voice her oppinion, and so does Natalie Maines. It's when u stop payin tax's u shut T,F,U

  • all 3 are angels that come down to us to give all a taste of music of meaning !!!!!

  • that voice is part scalpel , part bulldozer

  • I think America's understood Dixie Chicks since 2006, when Bush's approval rates went down a slippery slope. Only everyone who badmouthed them in 2003 were too stubborn to admit that the Chicks were the first ones to see Bush for what he really ones.

  • I actually think Natalie looks kinda cute in this vid

  • @TheCAMFfan yes, she looks very boneable here.

  • dang that girl can Sing... Miss them!

  • Such a beautiful song on its own merit, but Natalie makes it hit the listener very powerfully. Just awesome singing by an amazing and talented lady. Damn shame they don't sing anymore. Our loss.

  • I just learned this was written by Linda Perry. *bows down to the awesomeness*

  • @SingJiya Just get the fuck out of here and get a life. These women are beautiful and your words are worthless

  • @rreiter2 Haha exactly

  • @truck2cmfd that's not right because they were playin' it in live performance, that's not playback. You ain't right, GO DIXIE CHICKS!!!!

    THIS IS COUNTRY!!!!!

  • Martie Maguire and Emily Robinson are excellent instrument players and singers and so is Natalie !!!

  • I'd like to apologise for my previous comment, it came out all wrong, as I'd had too much to drink.

I meant to say something like "I don't like a lot of US-style things, but I like the US dollar so much I wish I had a million of them, don't you?"

So please accept my apology for such a stupid comment.

  • Country music isn't popular in argentina because it's a US style?

I presume you don't like the US dollar then?

  • U know, in Argentina country music isn't very popular because is an USA music style; but I have to admit these young girls have pure talent. Congratulations for them!

  • As an adopted child, this song really gets to me. Nicely done Martie, Emily and Natalie.

  • why is this titled acoustic?

  • @truck2cmfd because they were singin' it in acoustic

  • @ashfantisdale "singin it in acoustic" ? what are you talking about? do you mean playing it acoustic? I dont think they are playing it acoustic. Acoustic music comprises music that solely or primarily uses instruments which produce sound through entirely acoustic means, as opposed to electric or electronic means. The retronym "acoustic music" appeared after the advent of electric instruments, such as the electric guitar, electric violin and synthesizer. I see two electric instruments in video

  • grandissime

  • Dixie Angels

  • Natalie has the kind of voice that makes a man fall in love. Not only is her voice angelic to me, she is so beautiful. I would have given anything to had the chance to meet her, and taken her out on a date. You just never know what could happen if given an opportunity. She is and always will be the one woman who I just swoon over.

  • This is my favourite Dcx song ever, i think its because its so emotional! Natalies voice sounds amazing, martie and emily are in their element too! This is my favourite recording of this song!

Absolutely amazing, makes me kind of sad they no longer make music together :(

  • The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas (*_~)

  • One of their best songs and a superb performance, I absolutely love this!

  • the voices these girls do are the shit! bbrill

  • the voices these girls do are the shit!

  • It just doesn't get any better than this. it really doesn't.

  • Dixie Chicks coming to a Library near you!

  • It's a steel guitar, sometimes called a lap steel, and doesn't she play it beautifully?

If you want to see some amazing lap steel guitar playing, look up some Jackson Browne clips, with the incredible David Lindley playing the electiric version.

  • If this doesn't get you dancing around the room, what the hell will?

I reckon this is the best DC song so far, damn it, I'm gonna play it again and dance around the room!

  • What instrument is Emily playing?

  • @spongebobgirlfriend

    a 6-string lap steel guitar

  • What an excellent song!

  • She should use this look all the time, her other hair cuts and clothes was horrible. She looks good in black was she on p90x?

  • The girls sound like home to me.

  • @SingJiya ....IF "The words in this song suck, just like there music and attitude!" Why the hell are you here? Pedal your pseudo-religious, uneducated, inane comments on Yahoo or something. Now, not that they would have any more value there, it's just that we would not have to risk brain damage reading your senseless words. The stupidity you you convey via your keyboard is burning my eyes and melting my brain. The Dixie Chicks are AWESOME, GWB was a political tumor...and YOU, are a broken tool

  • @BinaryAngst I dont see what you like about them. They sound like REM. This tune was stolen off of, " Stand In The Place That You Work" sing along the lyrics to there Melody. You will see what I mean. You can even try, " I Would Walk 500 Miles"

  • @SingJiya A) R.E.M. is a great band also. "Stand", NOT "Stand in the Place that You Work," and this song, do NOT sound alike. B) If you do not know the name of a song, DO NOT refer to it! No, I CAN'T even try "I Would Walk 500 Miles," as there is NO SUCH SONG! Do you mean "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by the Proclaimers, which may as well be the polar opposite of this song?! Or was your tiny brain trying to tell you that Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" and this song are twins?!

  • @BinaryAngst Oh now not only do we have a B-side band, we now have Kassy Kasem the human juke Box. Just what the world needs another Wedding dj.

  • @SingJiya The next idiotic post of yours will be ignored by me. A) Are you calling me a B-side band? LOL B) WHO THE FUCK is Kassy Kasem? You mean CASEY KASEM? Sure you do, no point in knowing who and/or what you are commenting about, right? C) I DO love a wide variety of music and have a fully functional brain, unlike yourself. So, yeah, I remember names and titles, it is not magic and certainly has nothing to do with wedding DJ's. D) Please go back to school or drink some hydrochloric acid.FIN

  • Out of all the songs I used to dance & sing to this is the only one that means anything since I lost my beloved cat to cancer. It's only been two months & I wonder what would life be with you around. Michel, je t'aime. bises, Gloria

  • @Gloriapower your retarded!

  • @SingJiya No, YOU are clearly the retarded one. Period.

  • @BinaryAngst Is this the best she's going to look?

  • @SingJiya why the hell are you on this page if you're going to go on an anti-dixie chicks rant? you think anyone here wants to hear your idiotic, bigoted mouth?

  • @gosnia why are you here, are you lesbo?

  • @SingJiya you're stupid.

  • I think this is one of the best songs they've ever done, I never get tired of listening to this, beautifully simple, direct and punchy, great stuff!

  • Well Marty and Emily are amazing also, don't forget them. But yes Natalie has the most powerful, distinct voice in country music today. Too bad they don't respect or appreciate her tho!!

  • @iloveakeys01 They have nothing to do with country anymore, just like mcdonalds dont make hamburgers.

  • The most gorgeous woman I've ever seen is Natalie.

  • to my ex whom i still love for giving me two of the most beautiful girls in the world

  • I love the "Chicks"! How many of those sad Bush-league followers feel the same way now? I've never given up on you beautiful women! And that voice and those musical talents! WOW! I LOVE YOU CHICKS!

  • @leadpilot12 she blew it with her big mouth, she should of just used it for singing

  • @SingJiya It was an opinion. It's what the whole idea of "freedom of speech" is about. Actually that miscue led to their biggest (and most meaningful album). You need to let go.

  • @SingJiya You truly, truly, truly must be missing chromosomes. Do you work at McDonalds or Burger King? I doubt even they would employ you. You need an education beyond 3rd grade to work at either one. You seem obsessed with those fast food joints though. What, do you run around all Dixie Chicks video postings and place your invalid comments about Natalie Louise Maines Pasdar's opinions? Her opinion sent them all to serving up fast food, yet they released yet another album? You smoking crack?

  • They've been my favorite band since I first heard them in the car. That was half of my life ago. It's not going to be the same without Natalie...

  • dont worry, she will come back

  • i need them back <3

  • Comment removed

  • Favorite part is 3:30 hands down

  • This is my fav song on the CD-- drives me to tears almost everytime. Although its not about an ex, I translate it for myself as that.

  • These ladies have so many nice songs, I hope they never stop making music together.

  • @chrislovesb oh man you jinks them, they dumped natalie.and the sisters just sound like backup singers so it doesnt work.

  • @chrislovesb I am afraid they already have... :'(

  • Great song!! And Natalie's voice is so imposing and commanding. She does have a few pitch problems, which is not like her, but her voice makes a big diffrence for the Dixie Chicks!!

  • This song is about the fourth writer of this song. I think she put up her baby up for adoption and came to regret it.

"I'm forever changed by someone I never knew" is that strong or what??

  • i know right?!?!?! i Loooove this album!!!!! amazing songwriters!!!!!

  • Love this song so much I can put it on repeat play al day.

  • Amazing song. So sad what happened to the dixie chicks, so talented. I guess it just shows what a bunch of asses the rest of the world is. Developed or not, we suck.

  • @MsJustforfun i know right, like george bush...wtf no one likes him, i dont get why so many ppl attacked these women for voicing the opinions of basically the whole world (except the southern states apparently..like always)

  • @nataliejacksondance But they come from Texas! That is the point...

  • @geppetto96 The sisters lived there for the sake of starting a career, but weren't born or raised in Texas. Maines was, but left as soon as she could. They could have claimed London as hometown with as much credibility.

  • @nataliejacksondance You don't understand it because you think the only thing they did was make that comment. You also, no doubt, believe she meant it. She didn't. Who said so? Natalie Maines herself. For almost a year, she admitted it was a pandering joke. They even include her admitting it was a joke in their own movie. Only when it would serve her better with latecomers like yourself did she 'flip flop" and decide she meant it. It wasn't the southern states that tossed them, it was C&W fans.

  • I love it! It's hard to figure out what it is about, it can be about an old boyfriend, child friend or anybody

  • Amazing song isnt it! I have been told it was written by someone who gave their baby up for adoption as a teenage mother. . Dont know if thats true or not but makes the lyrics believable, this is such a good show of Nats amazing voice!!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!! it's my favorite song. the only thing i don't like about it was that it wasn't uploded sooner! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!YOU ROCK!!!

    ~"cheese"

  • man what a beautiful and sad song T^T

First i thought it was about a lost love but the lyrics seem to suggest a lost of a child maybe aborted child...anyways great song

  • Yeah, that's what I thought as well, but I think its about the baby, the writer of the song, put up for adoption.

  • oh yeah! i actually never thought of it that way. makes sense.

  • 不需理會其他人的意見,創作自己的音樂!

  • Man I've always loved this song.

  • If that's not talent, then I don't know what is?

  • also true

  • Hit the nail on the head there dude!

  • iv watched this so many times and i never think about the drummer but hes really good :)

  • bellissima canzone

  • every time i see this i'm amazed by the power of natalies voice...

that stays in my head... ;)

  • Her voice, most notably in this song, is mesmerizing! Rolling Stone said it best..."If you've dismissed the Chicks or need a new reason to love them, the epic, howling longing of "Voice Inside My Head" will blow your expectations."

  • true word...... x

  • @pendersandroy

Her voice is so powerful and tells this story with such passion.

I wish they would give the real story behind this song though

  • @mimsbluedebater99 its about a mother who gives her child up for adoption.

  • @Phayr How in the world did you know that?

  • @miley375 it was on some interview from behind the scenes. Natalie had a lot of trouble with this song in the ways of singing it.

  • @Phayr What interview?

  • @miley375 I honestly dont remember...it might have been on their movie or some behind the scenes thing.

  • @pendersandroy Natalie is an angel

  • @Artajerjes2010 Agreed!!!

  • natalie maines is gorgeous, but i dont like her "haircut" lol.

  • are there any other songs sort of like this lyrically and melodically by either Dixie Chicks or any other artist? preferably country?

  • bitter end by the dixie chicks is kinda similarrr ;)

  • wuaw... ok i'm totally blown away..... met the DC thru one of my fav songs of sheryl corw... (it don't hurt), that was amazing.... this is just fucking good..... brings tears to my eyes!

    thank you lady's!!!

  • just SHAADAP everyone..enjoy the damn song...would the host ov this video disable the comments and shut deez bitches up

  • If a singer adopts the tongue on the base of the mouth technique then they will free up the mouth to allow more sound out.For a singer with a small mouth this can be a huge advantage I guess to get power out.Singers with wide mouths have no need for this technique.

  • Again, SO WHAT?? Who cares where they get their influence from? The Beatles were influenced by Carl Perkins, Elvis, Chuck Berry blah blah blah... Then they influenced just about everyone out there after they became big. Go wash your car or something please! WHO CARES if you are a "real music fan" if you were SOOOOOO real and SUCH a big fan, you would appreciate almost any kind of music, not just that which agrees with your high and mighty snooty "tastes"

  • I repeat, you have nothing better to do than to make silly comments about something that means nothing, affects nobody and who the hell cares who you are a fan of! Nancy Schmancy...BIG DEAL!

  • It is a big deal to the real music fan.Nancy Griffith was out years before these girls in Texas and it might be prudent to check her out and see where these chicks get their influence from !!!!

  • It's just completely effortless! What is Emily playing here?

  • I really was wondering that. Looks like a Pedal steel Guitar, but I don't see a pedal.

  • I think Emily's instrument is a lapsteel here :)

  • personally, I think you are blind Irishguy... many times I see her tongue lift up and move as needed. Besides, do you really have such a boring life that you worry about her singing technique?? If you know so much, how come its the Dixie Chicks that go to the bank laughing while you are left to post silly uselessly negative posts here on YouTube...

  • Comment removed

  • Peterdaniel66 Firstly with this technique there are times when tongue movement is inevitable. Secondly I am a fan of Nancy Griffith!!!!

  • As regards being on pitch the aol live sessions allowed autotune to be used on these live sessions and that's a fact.

Oh you guy's never heard of autotune either I guess or you will tell me it doesn't exist.

  • The actual fact is Irishguy knows what he is talking about and if one is observant then it is easy to see and hear what the lead singer is doing.

  • Yeah the Dude is cool.....

  • the drummer^^

  • Really excellent.I like it very much.

  • excellent!

  • Tremendous! Nat can just flat out sing, don't you all think? Ridiculous post about the tongue thing below. She is always on pitch and sings just beautifully. I'm thinking Irishguy is not a musician.

  • No it's not a ridicules post. What is having to be a musician to do with anything,It's a well known technique in the music industry. However with all the technology available many just mime.Don't keep your tongue on the bottom of your mouth while you sing or talk.

  • that drummer is way cool.

  • WHAT A VOICE.

  • Try and talk with your tongue flat on the base of the mouth and I assure you it will be difficult to do and even more difficult to pronounce the words correctly.Ronan Keating in Ireland does this too when he sings live which is rarely.

  • It creates a lispy and distorted vocal and damages the voice.

  • Don't leave the tongue flat on the base of the mouth.

  • what in the world are you talking about?

  • Ok let me explain in easy steps for you.If you watch the lead singer closely you will notice her tongue never leaves the bottom of her mouth as she sings. It's a technique some singers use to get volume out but leads to a horrible lispy and poorly pronounced vocal.

  • Oh thank you so much. I guess she learned how to not sing by attending the Berkley School of Music and from her father.

Then again, it could just be her Texas accent.

But thanks so much for explaining it to me in simple terms so I could understand.

  • This technique is thought in some music schools and by some vocal coaches and it is dangerous and not nice to listen to.

  • I do hate to see singers ruin their voice.

And she can get a lot of volume without doing that I think.

I like her voice on some things, and not others.

But then again, I liked Laura and the old Chicks. LOL

  • i dont understand why would she do it then? whats the advantage?

  • The technique is designed to free up the mouth from the obstruction of the tongue and allows the singer get the sound out easier but with the side effect of a lisp sound.

  • maybe this is a supid question but why does she need to do that if she has a mic?

  • Ok some singers have naturally wide mouths or they are able to open then really wide.Take Linda Perry,Steven Tyler,Rachelle Ferrell and so on.However take coldplays lead singer his mouth is small and struggles at live events such as life eight concert.

  • so ur saying natalie's mouth is small thats why she does the tongue on bass of mouth thing? i thought her mouth looks pretty big just sayin.... also if thats the only reason they do it why are you making it sound like such a bad thing?

  • Some vocal coaches teach it and some denounce it as destroying the singers vocal chords over the longer term.

  • oh i see...

  • This singing technique should be banned period.

  • THE BEST!!!

  • One of my favorite songs. Occasionally they come up with a nice phrase, and "every time I'm feeling down, I wonder what would it be like with you around" qualifies. A beautiful song well sung, and the dude on the drums back there is really digging in!

  • yeh its soo gud!

  • perfect !

  • I love it. The lyrics are awesome and this performance is perfect.

  • They are wonderful

    Great Song !!!

Cannot get to much of this

  • The first time I heard this song, it was like I was sucker-punched in the stomach. I have one singular thought whenever I hear it, and I can't escape it. It still haunts me to this day. Yet, I love the song. It is without question my favorite Chicks song ever.

  • I know what you mean

  • hey GaPchGal i know exactly what you mean. I listened to this song over and over again enlessly. Still my favorite song. They perfomed this song for was it james taylor idk its in youtube under SHOWER THE PEOPLE gave me the same feeling. awesome music!!!!

  • at 3minutes 30..

    audiophonic orgasme ;)

  • amazingly beautifull..

  • It's my favorite song!!

  • this song is very pretty so much awesome

    i luv it

  • They are beautifull and talented and all but why is Natalie always so damn serious when singing?

And by the way this sounds JUST like Sheryl Crow it''s amazing really

  • This is a comment from my 9 year old daughter Simran about this song "i really like music that the dixie chicks make they are really cool"
