  • one at a time

  • If you have 2x 6950's can you Flash both at once, or do you need to do one card at a time?

  • Does this break the warranty?

  • seriously he doesnt blink. i thought it was just that one video but apparently i was wrong. :O

  • hes gonna F the flesh?! XD

  • If you do this wont it void your warranty?

Is this safe to do, like would it cause more heating and use up more power?

  • plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz telll meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee can 1g work or not?`????

  • @zikiboneziki1 no u cant

  • i have 1 g can it work??????????????????????

  • 1600 shaders..... not right

  • Link doesn't work and you haven't clearly explained how to do the whole bootable USB.. help?

  • @ScalpCollectorOnPC It doesn't work anymore on the new cards. You need to have bought the old 6950 before it was recalled.

  • If you flash the 6950 to 6970, is it safe to then overclock even further?

  • Will this work with any Card that's designated a 6950?

    Like an XFX 6950?

    Like this?

    Please help me! Thanks! aria.co.uk/Products/Components/Graphics+Cards/ATI/ATI+6900+Series/XFX+Radeon+HD+6950+1024MB+GDDR5+PCI-Express+Graphics+Card+?productId=45245&source=googleps

  • Most of the new 6950's wont allow this so choose your card carefully.

ie. Don't ask youtube, ask Google

  • 4:38 you typed 0 without -

  • PLEASE ANSWER!

    Can i do this with a 1gb 6950??

  • @alskdjfhglefkios2 No you can't. The 1gb version misses the bios switch.

  • @ZwingsTV u sure??

Because i some people claim that they did it!

  • I was planning to buy an asus radeon hd 6950 but I didnt sth like this is possible after buying will try to do that

  • 5:18. WTF? hes full of it. One GPU-Z is ATI brand and the other is XFX. there two different cards, there not the same one thats been flashed.

  • @MrJOSH406031 /facepalm. The card is an ATI card. The manufacturer is XFX.

There are lots of manufacturers that make ATI cards: Sapphire, XFX, HIS, GIGABYTE, ASUS, etc.

  • I have the Sapphire dual fan 1 GB model and you just have to flick the bios switch then enjoy. No further work to be done.

  • thanks for the great tutorial

  • you look like a thumb

  • @TheSaggyKid LOL

  • I have a XFX 6950 2Gb XXX, but for some reason there is no dual bios switch. Should I still do this?

  • this is interesting but does this actually make the video card run as fast as the 6970

  • @PsiloCybinDreamX it is the same card but locked

  • @EuropejskaUnia its not the same card, when unlocked you will get around 5 fps difference in dirt 2. The 6970 gets 5 more so you will have to unlock AND overclock ur 6950

  • Does this void any warrantys? Surely if you broke it you could just flash it back to the 6950 and then return it?

  • Comment removed

  • how come the shader count for the flashed 6950 in GPU-Z says 1600? Shouldn't it be 1536?

  • @ruinderry I am wondering the same thing...???

    Did you figure it out??

  • @nhs2008NC No idea. My best guess is his fat fingers hit some wrong keys somewhere

  • @ruinderry LOL!

  • You and Noah Kravitz look verrrrrry similar.

  • Do you made some benchmark between a 6970 and a 6950 flashed ?

  • You did your flash incorrectly...Your shaders should say 1536 not 1600. This could lead to issues....

  • @MALIKITIKI2 It depends on where he got the card. like today the new ones is NOT safe to flash but the old ones is "safer" to flash. also the bios

  • Comment removed

  • nice way to flash your bios without making a backup first :D

  • my question is .. all ati 6950 will works ? or it depend on the brand ?

  • @SjhotwingS its fully dependent on the version, if its the 1gb version, it wont work, if you got ANY 2gb version i will work.

  • @meanOM3N no not ANY 2gb. The older ones 6950 is safer to flash because they were more built for it but those sold today can get fried.

  • I got a MSI Twinfrozer III 6950. Will it work? And do I download the 70-driver or 50-drivers`??

  • @Olaipai It worked for me! I have the latest drivers from AMD!

  • FLASH DEBRIDBCE!!!

  • does it work for Asus Radeon HD 6950 2GB DirectCU II?

  • Or you could just overclock it 10% on the cpu and memory speed! LOL the 6970 is only 10% better a card in the first place, it's overpriced.

An overclock would be the same thing, what do you think that BIOS is doing? it's overclocking the processors and memory to the 6970 ref, get msi afterburner overclock it and see if an overclock is any different to a bios flash.

  • @MDEMONIC689

No. The specs are different, and i'm not talking about clocks. Overclocking will only affect frequencies, while flashing enables specs that were disabled on the same exact card, to sell as a budget(er) alternative.

  • as long the flashed 6950 shows as a 6970 it should work.

  • Do you NEED a reference card to do this? I can't find a reference card anywhere!

  • Holy shit, can't wait to do this with my XFX card thats coming in the mail. Thanks

  • Actually you don't need a flash drive, I flashed my ASUS DCII 6950 simply with AtiWinflash from the windows, it works nice so far(flashed it 3months ago), and it is much simpler than this.

  • @GamerDaPro is that the 1gig or 2 gig model? and what bios? ive read on the internet that you cant flash directcu II

  • @kevinstampe 2gig, I made a vid for OCN,just to show it has a dual bios switch, feel free to watch it. Everything important is in the description: watch?v=aG0-5pTv50w

    @Niqbal87 Nope.

@TheOtakuMaster0 It MAY work, nothing is for sure.

@Blackula1984 Fooling the system would be pointless, why would people do it, if it has no sense?

Of course there is major increase in perfomance, the card now is a 6970 instead of 6950, wich performs much better.

    @Benfro89 Maybe, worked on mine.

  • can i do this to my msi r6850 to make it 6870?

  • does this work for all current 6950 cards? eg HIS iceQ 2GB etc

  • I prefer the way Linus did it.

  • @deenotheman2 The os linus? If your getting a 6950 its for gaming and linus sucks at gaming. if u aint got cash for a os then tpb has cracked ones.

  • Does This Actually Improve performance or does it just fool the system into thinkin it is a 6970?

  • What model will this work for? What brand name?

  • can someone please help me!!! i spent a 1300 bucks on a new pc and i just flashed it to the 6970, but now nothing is showing up on the monitor. PLEASE HELP

PS Im writting this comment on my old laptop

  • @SweatyShadowbs plug in an old card to the pc and flash it back

  • @ssseeker2 what do you meen flash it back and also i dont have another video card

  • @SweatyShadowbs "Sometimes" the black screen (or BSOD) means that the AMD Catalyst drivers aren't liking your mods. You can try a driver un-install in safe mode (hit F7 during Windows startup) and then restart & re-install, and if that doesn't work try to flash your card back like ssseeker2 said, either with another spare card or integrated (onboard) video if available. Alot of 6950's have the shaders permanently disabled during the fabrication process now... T_T

  • HELLO IN WHAT MODEL OF 6950 THIS METOD ALREADY WORK? PLEASE TELL ME BECOUSE I WANT TO BUY THIS CARD AND FLASH IT TO 6970

  • would this work with a asus hd 6950 directCU 11 2gb ?

  • Someone pls explain to me what is the benefit in doing this x_x

  • @Troll12338 Basically, the 6950 has some stream processors that are physically on the card but are disabled by software, you can unlock these using this trick. Basically its like getting a $350 card for $250.

  • Do the temps run higher?

  • @BossBrownsugar from what i read so far it really does just become a 6970, whatever the temp. for that is then thats what you'll get

  • @BossBrownsugar yes it DOES

  • @Andycreep11 THEN U HAVE TO OVERCLOCK FANS

  • @Andycreep11 can u flash ATI Radeon 4250 to higher version

  • Somethings up with mine, I've ran the HP software, choosing FAT32 format and selected the 'Create a DOS startup disk' and targeted the win98 DOS files which finished and when I booted up my computer it skipped and went onto loading normal windows 7, even when i had changed the boot queue within the BIOS to the memory stick as rank 1.

  • Is it working on VTX 6950 2gb ???

  • You are awesome, works on Sapphire HD 6950 1GB

  • This is a dumb question but i have a 6950 with a 525 PSU, would the PSU need to be upgraded to unlock the 6950 to a 6970? and would i have to download 6970 drivers once unlocked?

  • Is there a way to do this to a newer model? Mines being shipped as I type this.

  • link to download please !!!

  • So what does this help?

  • Does any one if their are any more on newegg?

  • Are there any downsides?

  • Can I run a HD 6970 and a HD 6950 flashed in crossfire?

  • @TheTheMScope should work. Because that 6950, in every way shape and form is a 6970 now.

  • @TheTheMScope yes

  • @TheTheMScope Why wouldn't you just flash both?

  • @TheTheMScope dont think so, but why not buy another cheaper 6950 and flash it to 6970 aswell :)?

  • @dudedude873 oh thx but I bought two hd 6970 :D

  • @TheTheMScope no you cant

  • @Andycreep11 im assuming two flashed 6950s can be run in crossfire right?

  • are you running on a mac

  • Question will it only change the info or also the speed? Becuz i have no freaking idea lol

  • @PaulJ95 dont do it, if it screws up all youll have is an expensive paperweight :)

  • guys I m getting the sapphire 6950 (dirt edition) the new one...and I know that they have removed the dual Bios from this card but, can I still flash it in to 6970?..and if yes, whats the risks..?

  • @PaulJ95 I purchased this card about a month ago and it DOES have a dual BIOS. I didn't even have to flash it. Flicked the switch and the shaders were unlocked. You should probably overclock from here, and not actually flash the 6970 BIOS. You can just overclock it to 6970 clocks (880/1375 iirc) and it will perform the same without you having to worry about flashing.

  • @TheRetroHollywood I just got my card and then I saw that it did have dual bios switch..I tried to unlock the shaders but with no luck (the installation process goes just fine of the modded 6950 bios but the shaders dont get unlocked) I dont know what to do..To over clock the card is easy but I want to unlock the shaders and it doesnt work

  • @PaulJ95 You aren't missing much, actually. Just unlocking the shaders adds maybe 1-2 fps in Crysis 2 and Dirt 3. When I overclock to 6970 clocks without the extra shaders, I again lose only 1-2 fps from when I have it unlocked and overclocked. The extra shaders bios causes a lot of failed boots on my computer, a few lockups, some artifacts, etc. Really, it's not worth the effort unless you just want to toy around with the thing.

  • this is why I find it hard to choose whether to buy a 6950 or a 560ti. If I buy a 560ti gtx, it's gonna be a good deal. But if I'm gonna buy a 6950, still a good deal but it might tempt me to flash it every time I see it sitting on the mainboard.. lol.. guess I'm just going for the 560ti to save some headaches.

  • How do u know if u have a manufactures reference designed ?

  • Does this still work with a xfx radeon 6950 1/2gb?

    Thank you in advance

Ps is a 6950 card flashed or not better than a gtx 506 ti card when it comes to games like crysis 2 and BFBC2/ BF3

  • @Potatizmoz It HAS to be a 2gb card

  • has anyone had luck with a powercolor 1gb non refernece card?

  • @liam666cob you need a 2gb card

  • @TheFunniestDude naaa, some 1gb 6950s have been unlocked.

  • @eidnaj1995 some models can't be flashed. i dunno what models, but some. i do know that ASUS 6950's with directcuII(can't remember the excact name) can't be flashed

  • Still works? anyone?

  • Can i do this with my XFX 6950 800m 2GB (non reference model)?

  • 3 people were afraid to do this...

  • You shouldn't put a dash in front of the 0.

  • 3 people bought a 6970...

  • Is it really worth the effort of doing this when you can get 840mhz and 1325mhz in AMD overdrive anyway, not really worth risking this for say an extra 40mhz and 50mhz respectively?

  • @s3snok a reference card has a dual bios, so even if you screw up some how and brick one bios you can just switch over to the other bios and be ok :P

  • Can anyone please explain to me what a reference model is

  • "as long as you have one of the basic first model run of these cards which is a reference model"

So if i bought a 6950 today would i be able to flash it?

  • How do I know that the card is a first model or a new one? where can I buy a first model?

  • does this work with the new 6950s??

  • will this work on my HIS 6950 turbo 2gb card?

  • @ziianHD no mate, you will need an reference card for unlocking the 6950

  • Amd 6970 does not have 1600 stream processors, it has 1536.

Ati 5870 is the card that has 1600. CPUz screenshot fake or error.

gmk120 is right, first of all the memory is not of the same quality and speed, you also lack 8 pin connector which provides 150w, teh 6 pin connector provides 75w!!!

    6950 up to 200w

    6970 up to 250w

You also expose card to the risk of voltage failure, pcb components are not the same.

Not all cards have dual B.I.O.S.

DON'T FLASH IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO. WARRANTY VOID!!!

  • Now, what does this do?

  • Can I do this with the Asus DirectCU II 6950?

Do the unlock affect the temperature?

  • @kjakur yes, it may fuck up your card

it may limit the lifetime of then card

and if you dont have a min. 600w 80%+ supply your system will crash

  • Can u make a tutorial on how to unlock shaders instead??

  • Can u make a tutorial on how to unlock shaders instead

  • You said if I heard you correctly that I must have a any manufacturer's first run ref. card in order for this to work? I take it then that I won't be able to flash my MSI R6950 Twin Frozr III PE/OC Radeon HD 6950 2GB cards to 6970? Would this be because they are factory OCed?

  • space dash space dash...

  • please tell me is this unlock thing harm the 6950 card and reduce the life time of it? i am about to buy a 6970, but if this thing can be done without harm to the card i would definately change to 6950

  • the questoin is will it preform as well as the radeon 6970???

    i got a radeon 6950

  • can I use the Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 to do this?

  • What are the benefits of flashing the card to a 6970?

  • 2:15 he blinked!!

  • can anyone please send me the ATI FLASH 3.85 and the correct win98 boot files.

  • can anyone please send me the ATI FLASH 3.85 and the correct win98 boot files.

  • @REDROCKET696 yhea can someone send them to me too, send me a pm and I'll give you my email

  • @motherboardsorg Can flash a AMD 6950 1gb, or this is just for the 2gb version ? Tell me please!

  • @MegaAbzzzzz 2gb

  • How is the flash holding up motherboardsorg? I herd anymore it's really not safe enough to flash to 6970 BIOS. It's suppose to change your video cards voltage to 6970 voltage frying your video memory over a period of time or instantly. An considering dual pci e six pins 6950 vs 6+8 on 6970, power consumption worries me. Techpower forums now have a batch file mod that just unlocks the 6950 BIOS shader count to 6970 count. Leaving 6950 voltage/clocks at stock. Not sure if it's even worth it.

  • @x900lbGorillax can you link me to the forum thread with that batch file.. i cant find it.

  • @giftofgame, I sent you links to the files you'll need and wrote a guide on how to flash it, should be in your inbox.

  • THE SECOND TIME YOU ENTER THE COMMAND AT 4:41 YOU DIDNT TYPE "- " BEFORE THE " 0" LIKE AT THE BEGINNING.

  • your computer is very noisy LOL. NO WATER COOLING?

  • can i flash my GYGABYTE HD6950 into HD6970? its GYGABYTE is this important or its all the same like with all others 6850 series??? PLS ANSWER MOTHERBOARDSORG

  • @MARZ8870 Yes you can

  • im trying to install the usb thing. i cant cause i need adminstration..

  • PLEASE READ THIS ADVISE IF YOU ARE GOING TO FOLLOW THE VIDEO:

be sure to ONLY UNLOCK YOUR STREAM PROCESSORS, if you change the voltage or anything from the RAM, you will start getting artifacts in a round a week

please thumbs up this comment so everyone sees

  • @gmk120 is this true do you have any video or something of it

  • @1337saklart if you are talking about flashing the HD 6950 to 6970 yes its true (a flashed 6950 can be used in crossfire with a original 6970) and its also true that you will start having serious troubles with the card if you touch the VRAM.

  • @gmk120 but core voltage and clocking is fine under a reason temperature? do you have any references of cards that have broked?

  • @1337saklart if you search in google you will find many people complaining about troubles after flashing their HD 6950's, and i don't know if the trouble is that it gets hotter or something like that, just don't touch the VRAM and you will be fine

  • @gmk120

How can you only unlock the STEAM PROCESSORS without the Voltage being change when you flash it...or is it different? like if i flash it it will be only the STEAM PROCESSORS that will be change and not including the Voltage...??

  • @EmilsVideo i don't know, its just a program wich flashes the HD 6950, i have a GTS 450 so i don't know what it must be done to flash the 6950 without having troubles, motherboardsorg and linustechtips (i think the most popular reviewers of youtube) have both tutorials to flash the card

  • @gmk120 did you personally tried it? cause i got this card and i want to try it but if it harm my card or even worst permanently damage well then i would'nt take any chances!

  • @ZarCus1984 no i didn't i have a GTX 560, but i know a friend of mine who tried this unlocking everything possible and get had to change the card 2 weeks later

  • @gmk120 Ok thanks for the info!

  • @gmk120 Please post tut on how to just unlock stream processors! im kinda confused!

  • @ElectricMuffinDude i don't know, i don't even have the HD 6950 (i have a GTX 560) i just read a lot of annoyed users of the card reporting problems after unlocking the whole card
