  • this must have drove parents of the time to insanity.

  • OMG JESUS HELP ME LORD MY HEAD IS SPLITTING AGAIN!!! i had this game back in the day omg!!!!!

  • i used to play the hell out this joint here....still have it..

  • A FRIEND HAD IT, JUST AS NOISY

  • I had this a a kid and it was really great at the time. good times.

  • I got this for Christmas in 1978

  • Spent many an afternoon in the late summer sun playing this game with my merry band of 9 yo pals. When the world was perfect. Ah, nostalgia wipe my tear away

  • @primus628 I know what you mean, I was born in 69, and this was awesome in 78, real high tech, I am going to track one down for my kids to see what we had in the old days

  • I actually had this piece of crap. LOL loved it.

  • damn ! I used to have like 4 of these things ! I wish I had em now.

  • very clever I remeber playing this

  • I would love to find this!

  • seems fun!

  • Would msneak under the tree and slowly unwrapped what I thought was this DD game. Man was I happy when it was this..

I went and got batteries from elsewhere and snuck them into the living room and placed them inside the compartment..and played as quietly as I could.. one of my fav. memories from Chrsitmas..

  • I had exactly one of these, But it was called "Demon Driver" It was also by Tomy. Also 1978

It was fun to have one.

  • I had this game back then. I forgot about the red light going off when you would hit a car.

  • When was this made? I take it the whole thing is mechanical, it sounds like it is. What happens when you crash into another car? Does the unit keep track of your place in the race?

  • Made in 1978! Of course it's mechanical. That's what it makes so damn sophisticated. Keep track of what?? HAHAHAHA! No, it doesn't keep track of anything, just of the laps (i.e. the time) you are in w/o doin'a crash.

    Yeah, time to pay.

  • I remember I wanted this game so badly that I ended up shoplifting it from a department store.... ahh, the good old days.

  • I'd love to see the look on a kid's face today if he unwrapped this at Christmas instead of a PS3.

  • i HAD this game, DAMN it was sooooo noisy!

    fun though.

  • UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM-Kay

  • Looks ok... But electronic???

  • Your kung-fu is weak! You shift like an old lady! I used to roll the counter on that badboy, possibly the first "videogame" I ever pwnd! ;)

Really though, thanks for posting this so I don't have to haul out my precious aging Digital Derby every time I want to explain it to someone.

  • Whatever! This is a slo-mo for all you lame-o-watchers! Otherwise you couldn't even see what's goin'on. ;-)

  • W T F ???

  • notice how the cars moved in certain ways depending on the gear you were in?

even i new that when i was seven or eight years old when the game was on sale..

  • You filmed this? Beautiful! I had one and had forgotten a lot of things about it, but you've captured the experience so well I can practically feel the thing in my hands.

  • My brother had this game as a child. I remember my pot smoking dad playing with it so much that we never had the chance....

  • @jynger71 lol

  • @jynger71 LOL....

  • Is it just me, or does this European equivalent of Digital Derby sound faster than its American and Japanese counterparts? (Watch DaRetroGate's video of DD to hear what I mean.)

Besides Digital Derby, the other alternate names for this game were Demon Driver and Black Racer.

  • haha... i remember this game... My cousin had one when I wa a kid. I would play it every thanksgiving...

  • Awesome! I actually loved these games, and I found this cool website that has almost every electronic handheld game for sale. It's great if you want the original classics.

    ElectronicHandHelds . com

  • That's technology, it sounds like a real car!

  • I really loved this game.

  • (c)1978 TOMY

    Made in Singapore

Isn't it fantastic? The sound is produced mechanically!
