Spent many an afternoon in the late summer sun playing this game with my merry band of 9 yo pals. When the world was perfect. Ah, nostalgia wipe my tear away
@primus628 I know what you mean, I was born in 69, and this was awesome in 78, real high tech, I am going to track one down for my kids to see what we had in the old days
Would msneak under the tree and slowly unwrapped what I thought was this DD game. Man was I happy when it was this..
I went and got batteries from elsewhere and snuck them into the living room and placed them inside the compartment..and played as quietly as I could.. one of my fav. memories from Chrsitmas..
When was this made? I take it the whole thing is mechanical, it sounds like it is. What happens when you crash into another car? Does the unit keep track of your place in the race?
Made in 1978! Of course it's mechanical. That's what it makes so damn sophisticated. Keep track of what?? HAHAHAHA! No, it doesn't keep track of anything, just of the laps (i.e. the time) you are in w/o doin'a crash.
i have about 130 of these games Mattel Casio Nintendo grandstand namco tomy bambino gakken entex i would let my collection go for the right price all in very good some as new condition
You filmed this? Beautiful! I had one and had forgotten a lot of things about it, but you've captured the experience so well I can practically feel the thing in my hands.
Is it just me, or does this European equivalent of Digital Derby sound faster than its American and Japanese counterparts? (Watch DaRetroGate's video of DD to hear what I mean.)
Besides Digital Derby, the other alternate names for this game were Demon Driver and Black Racer.
Awesome! I actually loved these games, and I found this cool website that has almost every electronic handheld game for sale. It's great if you want the original classics.
this must have drove parents of the time to insanity.

This must be a toy from the 1930's.

I'd love to see the look on a kid's face today if he unwrapped this at Christmas instead of a PS3.

Your kung-fu is weak! You shift like an old lady! I used to roll the counter on that badboy, possibly the first "videogame" I ever pwnd! ;)
Really though, thanks for posting this so I don't have to haul out my precious aging Digital Derby every time I want to explain it to someone.
