Why does it have to be within the confines and commitment of marriage? There are plenty of people in relationships outside of the confines of marriage that are having fulfilling sex/relationships and married people who have shitty relationships/sex because they're just not into each other. What difference does a contract with the state and/or church make? Are we so insecure about imagining our future spouses having had sex with someone before us that we have to make them promise to wait?

@papamagnum, many religion sees sex as a form of prayer and enlightenment. so it is wrong to blame religion for that. what most religion says is not to have sex outside marriage, which completely makes sense. a bitch and dog do not need marriage. a man and woman do. the reason for marriage is to validate sex. yeah yeah we have assigned whole new meaning to marriage nowadays that has to do with everything but sexual chastity! which could not be any weird. there is nothing modern about it.

What religions do you think I'm talking about, guy? And marriage wasn't founded as something that was merely to validate sex - sex doesn't need validating, it just happens. Marriage was founded as a property combining institution. You'd know this if you actually read about its history. My girlfriend conducts clinical studies the the science of the trends that occur when religion and sex are combined, so yeah, I think I have some footing when I make these statements.

marriage is a very personal thing, everyone is different individual and i dont know how can someone come up with statistics and "clinical" science to conclude religion is harmful to sex and marital satisfaction. i can prove that wrong by examples including individual couples. marriage at the beginning of the civilisation was founded as a mean to validate sex. this is common sense. many anthropologist and historians support that too. modern trend can not rewrite history.

actually you should have been specific about the religions you were talking about. I know in Hinduism and Islam, sex is celebrated among married couples and it is encouraged. In early hinduism, sexual positions were studied to maximize the pleasure and marital satisfaction. "kamasutra" was a result of it. Islam puts it as a duty of the husband to satisfy the wife and take care of her in the most grand manner and sex is regarded as the right of the wife, not a burden or shame.

Again, sex happens despite religious people's convicitons against it happening outside the bounds of marriage. Individual examples about religious couples don't prove much because there is a huge chance that they are and abhorration. And no, you don't need marriage to "validate" sex. It was founded as a property exchange institution. Read some history before you make some declarations like that. By the way, I'm an atheist and am in a very satisfying relationship.
